Verkleeren?

His stock has gone down in the last year. If I were him I'd have stayed at ISU....full-ride.[/QUOTE

Verkleeren just won a PA state title and is the #1 ranked high school kid at 145 lb (according to Intermat). If his stock is down, it must have been pretty high before. Not saying he'll be a world-beater in college, but chances are he'll be pretty good.

Good points but didn't he recently win a world title and follow that up with a handful of head scratching losses? Looks like he has settled down since with a really good season that started with a WNO win and ended with a state title...I don't know all of the specifics about Verk's career but if you win a world title then your stock will be SKY HIGH and then take some losses to those ranked below you and your stock may naturally go down a bit.

I think he's a solid recruit, but he hasn't shown the same consistency as some of the other blue chippers in recent years...other side to that though is that if you put yourself out there as much as he tends to, you'll take some losses. Is it better to keep to a simpler schedule and stay perfect or take on a big schedule and take some losses - I'll usually take the battle tested kid in that scenario.

In the last year he won at Who's Number 1 over an Oklahoma State signee, won Super 32, and just first PA State title. Don't think anything he's done this year has hurt his stock.

I would think that getting deck at the Dapper Dan would drop his stock a little.

Don't think it would compared to where he was ranked coming into the season. His stock is actually higher now than it was before this season started due to the successes I mentioned above.

I believe I read somewhere where he was diabetic which you could probably attribute some of his headscratching losses if his blood sugar was out of whack.

Getting 4th at Powerade...
Varsity - Quarterfinals - Mekhi Lewis (Bound Brook HS) over Jarod Verkleeren (Belle Vernon Area Hs) (UTB 5-4)
Varsity - 3rd Place Match - Kevin Budock (Good Counsel) over Jarod Verkleeren (Belle Vernon Area Hs) (UTB 2-1)
I didn't think either of those were bad losses. Both guys are/were top 50-ish D1 recruits. Those -- plus his UTB loss to David Carr, his 2-0 loss to Cam Coy, and his 8-1 loss to Travis Stefanik -- showed he needed to work on mat wrestling.

He also finished 4th at states in 2015. Ignore that cadet world title a few months later, and his year-to-year performance makes a lot more sense.

How many of those top 50-ish does Cael go after just asking ?

There's a decent chance PSU will start 2 unranked recruits next year.
Cool so the numbers 1's like Hall can redshirt. With what Penn States has could start 5 unranked and still win cause we all know Cael will coach up those unranked to be champs also..Just so you know don't really give a shit can't you guys just be happy with what y ou have?

If he is getting any athletic scholarship, which i doubt they had to give him one since they probably created a diabities full ride somehow, this is probably good for everyone else. He just does not fill a need for them at all and a decent chance he sees very little of the lineup throughout his career

Not good for some team that could have used him (like Iowa State, maybe).

Snowflakes like to ride the bench..They have all the fun and get the rings also and don't have to do much just show up get u r reward..Then when they go out in life can show off the rings and hope it lands them a nice job. So sad the county has come to be this way.

I couldn't agree more. Scared to compete.
