Yeah. Heaven forbid he state the obvious.
it’s not polite to say some obvious things. you wouldn’t want kaleb to tell a not so good looking girl that she’s an uggo. nor should he say his head coach is stupid which is what he did.

Choose wisely, young Grasshopper, your HOF nomination is hanging on this decision!!

not a smart move to say that kaleb. guess we’ll get ready to enjoy moulton and patterson take your carries
He didn’t say anything wrong. Opposing Ds do have to account for Sullivan running. With Cade, they don’t. It a fact. If a player isn’t allowed to speak common sense/reality, the team will never reach its best, imo.

Maybe it wasn't prudent for Kaleb to say that. But I like that he did
Also, I don't think your comparison fits well. While the girl in your scenario has little control over her facial appearance and saying that to her is mean spirited, the coach absolutely owns his poor decision.

Sullivan will start. But it will be begrudgingly by KF. There will probably be a mystery injury to save face.

This seems important:

“We planned on a QB rotation during the week”
-Kirk Ferentz

We?

when was the last time Ferentz planned a QB rotation …. Ruddock/Beathard?

JMHO: “we” = probably IMO Lester thru heavy persuasion bought Sullivan an opportunity to show something.

Conclusion: Sullivan won the job. 37 unanswered points once he was inserted. The whole team was energized.
Yet there was no rotation until 1 1/3 into the game and a pick 6. Quit with the B.S. Kirk. Swallow your ego and admit you were once again wrong on the QB and move on.

My post was about KF's remarks not your post BTW.

If CM gets the start prepare for a lot of KF talking about the 3 and outs Sullivan had to start (there were 3 straight). Because in his mind the pick 6 and the wounded duck were still better for his anointed one.

I hadn’t even considered it a question (should be Sullivan) until all of the message board questions that have very correctly pointed to the total mind-numbing decisions in the past about the QB position from KF. I sure hope my assumption that it will be Sullivan is correct!

KF gave some mixed postgame messages.

I would hate to play against him in poker.

Sullivan's mobility and physicality alone are a huge uplift for this team! Weak QB's impact our OL, as well as our D due to their lack of success and ability for our opponents to get fired up and T off with blitzes and sacks!!

If KF can't see this I'm at a loss for words!!

Wisconsin will have to game plan differently for each of the two QBs. Maybe Kirk is playing 3D chess.

KF is playing 3d chess when everyone else is playing checkers .....

They're gonna say that McNamara is still unable to go so they'll start Sullivan next week. (KF hopes) Sullivan struggles and Iowa loses.

Then KF can smugly grin and snort while telling the postgame presser reporters that "told you there's a reason Cade gives us the best chance to win".
This, coupled with a horrible gameplan that neuters Sullivan’s strengths and doesn’t put him in a position to succeed.

We have been so conditioned to assume the worst when it comes to the QB position. But Kirk knows (Lester already knew) that Sullivan is the best choice. It would not surprise me though if Sullivan is kept on a short leash and any stumble and McNamara comes in. That scenario seems more likely.
Agree. Sullivan will have a MUCH shorter leash than Cade. Cade was given game after game after game of terrible play and was only replaced after being hurt. If Sullivan has a bad quarter he will probably get benched and Cade put in.

You can't be serious Kirk. He only said that Sullivan made his job easier. He's not allowed to compliment the kid that came in and led the team to victory? WTF???

We haven't seen him throw a 25-yard dime because he hasn't had the opportunity in an Iowa uniform. Although I'm glad you posted this in a way, because I was just wondering what might have been if it was Sullivan throwing to a wide-open Anderson in the first half and not CM.
I would have liked to see that as well. I remember watching Sully play at Northwestern and he was mainly throwing short passes. I am not saying he can't throw for longer ones, I am saying there is very little evidence that he can. I agree with everyone else, why tip your cards on who is the starter? I love the fact that defenses now have to play contain with Sully in, that plays right into what Lester wants to do. BTW I thought it was rather comical that he blew by the receiver to make a block. I mean very heads up and smart, but it was odd to watch on tv. I mean he blew right past him!!! The whole thing is just not something you see very often and yet it almost looked scripted and Sully did not hesitate one bit. So again, very heads up.

kid is smart and understands the rushing game. he didn't say anything wrong but his observation instantly put the easily avoidable futility (ie mcanamara) of the past few weeks in glaring spotlight. clearly all the players have known this just as everyone watching has. hope kirk takes it in the right spirit.

When a player can't compliment a fellow player the locker room will revolt. If Kirk doesn't do what everyone knows to be the right thing he will lose this team and a significant segment of the fanbase. There is no controversy unless Kirk makes it so by leaving the door open for Cade. If Kirk doesn't take what KJ said in the right spirit then he's just showing himself to be a small man with ridiculously thin skin that needs to ride off into the sunset.

There is no way (barring injury to Sullivan in practice), that Cade starts against Wisconsin.

I fear that if Cade is cleared to play that he will start & Sully will get rotated in again

Postgame:

Hasn't Sullivan been "rotated in" since like the 3rd week? There was never any intent for Sullivan to get the extended play that he did in this game. Cade getting pulled because of "injury" and Sullivan getting extended minutes only happened because Cade was absolutely terrible again and the situation presented itself. I'm certain that Kirk absolutely hated to do this, but now that it's done he needs to go all in by giving Sullivan QB1 reps this week or risk losing the team.

I think the difference is this:

* Prior to yesterday, Sully only went in for red zone packages

* Yesterday, the plan, per KF, was for Sully to actually get FULL series.

Yesterday's plan changed, of course, when Cade got his bell rung.

And I agree with you 100% that Sully gave the team a HUGE spark; the players even said so in the postgame.

Sully should be QB1. Fans, beat writers, etc all say it. But, we're dealing with KF here.... ;)
