We have been so conditioned to assume the worst when it comes to the QB position. But Kirk knows (Lester already knew) that Sullivan is the best choice. It would not surprise me though if Sullivan is kept on a short leash and any stumble and McNamara comes in. That scenario seems more likely.
Sadly, I think you’re correct. He gave CM many game opportunities. Nearly one mistake, and he’d be inclined to pull BS.

Can you imagine the outrage in the fan base if KF starts Cade in the 1st half and we fall behind by 14 points?

And then Sully comes in and starts a comeback but we come up just short of the W?

KF gave some mixed postgame messages.

I would hate to play against him in poker.
Well, you know he wouldn't take any chances, so bluffing is not an option!

I think the difference is this:

* Prior to yesterday, Sully only went in for red zone packages

* Yesterday, the plan, per KF, was for Sully to actually get FULL series.

Yesterday's plan changed, of course, when Cade got his bell rung.

And I agree with you 100% that Sully gave the team a HUGE spark; the players even said so in the postgame.

Sully should be QB1. Fans, beat writers, etc all say it. But, we're dealing with KF here.... ;)
you maybe onto something. because in the first half the two times we reached the redzone he left in cade and cade performed per expectations ie awfully. why didn't kf deploy sullivan? maybe the plan was indeed to give first half to cade and second to sullivan. but the one mystifying thing is i saw no sense of excitement or joy from kf post game that sullivan led us on four consecutive TD drives.

My thought is that you have to go with the more complete QB and that is Sully. If Cade had made the makeables and been able to hit guys in stride, I think the choice would be more clouded, but the fact is he was not and has not been making those throws. Good news is, with the WR room getting better and Sully getting better, the passing game should be better next season for sure.

And Lester will have to keep improving the QB room so that we have somebody ready to go in 2026

That should be the end of the KF era.

That already happened with Petras and Padilla vs Nebraska in 2022 with a trip to indy on the line. Fell behind 10-0 before Padilla came in for injured stick man, who naturally got injured by not being able to move faster than a dlineman. We lost 24-17, but Padilla just never got enough snaps to win a game like that thanks to captain kooky.

Our receivers sucked that year too, except Charlie Jones who barely played WR. Padilla had a late running throw that would've been caught by most D1 receivers, but not Ragaini.

I really do believe this is a who gives us the best chance to win thing. I know nobody wants to hear this, but has anyone ever seen Sully throw a 25 yard dime? Not saying Cade is great at it either, but at least we have seen Cade do it in his life. NOW if we get into a scrap where we are playing a team who can just play and beat us with man coverage and they focus on stopping the run because we can not pass on them........ well then Sully can move around a little and that alone opens up the running game and forces the defense to play us different. They blitz and miss and we are going for chunks. A defense has to play more contain with Sully in the game. You can only contain our rushing attack so long before they are going to eat. Still would like to see more bunch plays when a team just plays us in man coverage. That plus having to play contain could bust things wide open.
Lolz. McNamara is absolutely terrible and makes no throw with consistency. There isn’t a single thing that he does really really well. He is slow and allows a D to stack the box and sell out to stop Johnson. It is inconceivable one could think 12 is your best bet here, but I Voted for him in this poll, because his head coach has proven himself wholly inept in this department through the years.

The real reality is the scoreboard. KF ought to know that by know.

I could totally see him saying Cade got the ball out on time and to the right read.

Too bad it was ineffective as all hell. But, it looked good on film to KF.

Even KF can't ignore CM's inaccuracy and turnovers....right? ;)

And Sully came in and sparked a scoring explosion....

There is no way (barring injury to Sullivan in practice), that Cade starts against Wisconsin.
Come on. This is the coach who kept Deacon Hill on the field the whole year. It’s certainly not unthinkable that Kirk will trot out Cade again. He’s a stubborn stubborn man.

NO single player..or (more importantly) player's ego..should be placed above the welfare of the team.

The very fact that there is remaining uncertainty by KF as to who should play the remainder of the season is absolutely ridiculous at this point, and perhaps evidence his very own ego is clouding his judgment.

Wisconsin will game plan for Sullivan, Cade doesn’t do anything particularly well that they would need to spend time on that. If Cade were to start they would spy KJ.
With Sullivan you can’t do that and it proves to help. Only debate is, can Sullivan’s arm be successful when needed? I don’t see why it would be any worse than Cade’s but could his decision making be worse?
We all hope he can make most of the makeable throws, but most likely it will come down to how it allows KJ to play.
