WBB 2018-2019 SEASON

I read that MSU's game tomorrow night vs PSU has been postponed. I haven't seen anything about the Iowa game at Michigan yet.

I have hope for AO. Admittedly, it is an extremely small sample size, but she has lately shown the ability to do more on offense than rebound. She has hit a couple of Chase Coley-like 10-footers. And, there was a point in the Illinois game, when she and Wittinger (who is a pretty good player) were guarding each other. Wittinger scored on AO. When they got to the other end, AO posted her up and started calling for the ball. She got it and scored. I had never seen that sort of Disterhoft/Doyle fire from her.

I think I've mentioned this before, but in the Creighton loss last spring, I thought Ollinger was the first player to show some urgency in the 2nd half. Wasn't enough by itself, of course.

AO has played very limited minutes this season so her stats are not an accurate representation of her playing ability. She played well off the bench last season when MM and Tania were both out. In limited minutes she has shown flashes that lead me to believe she will have a breakout season. I remember many posters were critical of Jamie Cavey early in her career and yet she blossomed into an all big ten player. Amanda has played limited minutes as a forward and hasn't been asked to score. She looks to distribute. Next year her role will change and with 20+ minutes a game I'm excited to see what she can do.

The year before she averaged 2 points/ game and 4 rebounds/ game.

You stated she could average a double -double next year. The only people in recent history to even come close to that are Kach and Megan. If Amanda does that, she will be all conference and that certainly would be a surprise.

Next year she will actually have someone guarding her full time with Megan gone.

2.8 points/game and 3.1 reb/game to a double double. Seems reasonable.

1.8 points/ game and 1.8 rebounds/game in conference play.

Stewart's sophomore year, she averaged 4.9 ppg and 2.8 rpg averaging 10 minutes/game. She followed that with 7.3 ppg and 4.5 rpg as a junior averaging 17 minutes/game without ever starting.

I agree that Ollinger won't average a double-double next year, but with starter's minutes, Ollinger could/should exceed what Stewart did as a junior reserve (used as a back up center).

I agree. I have great respect for how she plays the game. I appreciate the way she got into better shape this year and also the way she seems to take ownership of the ball.

Without question. A senior with starter minutes should exceed the stats of a junior with back up minutes.

Hannah also had Megan for the other team to concentrate upon.

If Hannah was returning, I wouldn't be as concerned for next year. I think she is a quality person and player.

Stinks that they postpone it after the team arrived. I'd be tempted to tell 'em to GFY....we're here, let's play.

Iowa wrestling had a similar situation last Friday. Had a pretty good snow storm, but since Rutgers was already in town, they went ahead and wrestled as scheduled.

Speculating the game may have been cancelled a day or so ago was it not scheduled for BTN. Guessing they put in extra effort given it was nationally televised.

Not sure how Amanda became such a focal point of the board but for the record she averages .23 rebounds per minute played which is actually higher than Hannah at .21,(Megan .385) Amanda has done a nice job filling her role and not trying to do too much on offense. Clearly, she is being coach to just play defense and rebound. Based on .23 rebounds per minute that should equate to about 7 rebounds if she played 30 minutes. As a senior playing those types of minutes then it possible she could improve on 7 boards per game. Hopefully, she will improve her offensive skills next year to add even more value to team. Also, if the coaches thought that Taiwo athleticism could help the team then I assume she would be playing ahead of some of the other guards especially with our guards struggles at time. She is not getting red shirted so one must assume they feel her game needs more development to get on the court ahead of other guards.

I can see Tomi being called upon as a defensive spark and she'll get minutes as a backup. I don't see her pushing Meyer or Doyle for minutes. Martin will likely start as a third guard with Alexis as the primary backup for all three guard positions. In 2020 Tomi will likely see extensive minutes when Doyle and Meyer graduate. Sevillian has more experience and Martin is more of scoring threat. Toni likely sees 8-10 minutes a game next year in reserve

I am guessing nobody is intending to come down on "AO". Maybe the point is that if the team is going to have success next year Amanda is one of a couple players that will probably need to advance her game a step or two. I am hopeful she can do it. She is getting "spot duty" this year. With work, she will hopefully put herself in a position where she can play a predictable 24 to 33 minutes a game. I have found that with defined roles a lot of players get comfortable and elevate their play.

I see Amanda's natural position as PF. She's been asked to play more as a SF further away from the basket due to injuries at guard last season and quality play of MG and HS this season. Resuming a more natural role will help her play. I think she will have a breakout season next year and many fans will be surprised

Well they should put it on BTN. All the broadcast equipment is likely already there. Nothing else is going on at that time. But, they probably won't.

FYI, game audio stream is free on iHeartRadio, just search for KXIC. Occasionally it is also available on tuneIn if you search for Iowa Hawkeyes. I remember one used to have to subscribe to something to get the audio stream on Hawkeyesports. I don't know if it is still the case or not.

It will be tough on both Michigan and Iowa. Both teams have away games on Sunday.

I read Iowa is flying back after the game and then flying to State College on Sunday for PSU. I don't understand why they wouldn't just fly to Penn State direct and get an extra day rest. Certainly Barta can pony up an extra night lodging and could find a gym for the girls to practice. I would think that would be less stressful than the jet lag. Penn State might up being a trap game unless Iowa can get an early lead and play reserves tomorrow

Let’s stick it to the fans. Instead of seeing it as a part of the normal cable package, you’d have to pay for it if that’s the case.

Yes, it is more pay to play that many of us do anyway to get access to all of the games, and not just those that are broadcast on cable/satellite, etc. Ultimately we pay for other ways to get it too anyway. The important thing is that we get someone to get a video stream set up so that we have something to watch if we want to, which needs to happen to get any kind of video at all available by tomorrow. Maybe some can call in to BTN and make the case that they should get a free access in some fashion to play back that one game that should have been broadcast instead of just on pay to play channels, so that on BTN2GO pages, it shows up as originally BTN broadcast instead of BTNtoGo (even if BTNtogo was the one that originated it), so that you can authorize it if you have a broadcast entity you can log in to instead a btn2go account to get it that way.

May have been Kathleen's best game as a Hawk. She was terrific!
Michigan was due for a good game. Tough to win on the road.

All the bigs looked slow compared with theirs. Too many layups given up. Doyle seemed to have forgotten that you only get 5 fouls. Listening to post game now, coach Jensen is *not* happy.

Bluder just mentioned that PSU has had the whole week off (because their Thursday game at MSU was postponed to Feb 27th). Looks like a really big challenge on Sunday, although they've lost 6 at home so far this season.

Big challenge at PSU? Only if Iowa allows it to be! We are talking 18-22 year olds... if the will is there, Hawkeyes win: more experienced, better talent and they have no one who can match up with MG. Go, play, win...

It's more than a physical game. A week to prepare vs 48 hrs could be an equalizer. Not to mention Iowa going through the Michigan stop and start distraction, & having to make the most difficult road trip of the B1G season (logistically speaking).

I will be driving across Iowa tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon. I am guessing KXIC will broadcast the wrestling meet that starts at noon and then join the basketball game in progress. Who is likely to carry the basketball game from the start? WHO? (What's on second.)

Maybe WMT 600?

Iowa wins 81-61. Megan with another double-double: 30 pts 11 rebs. Meyer shot well with 18 but left in the 4th due to injury. She had a big ice pack on her knee to end the game but was moving under own power with no noticeable limp. Praying it's only a sprain.

Any word on Meyer? Hope it’s nothing serious

This is also why I wish Tomi had been getting consistent 4–8 minutes per game in conference games in case her role has to expand. Now if Meyer is out, Tomi has to step into larger role having not played meaningful minutes in several weeks.
