WBB Former #1 Ranked Recruit Lauren Betts¥update bets to UCLA

Interesting spot for Bluder to be in with no schollies (right now, at least) available. She is very loyal and telling a player she's built a relationship with to get packing would be something I see being really hard for her.
But now with NIL, if it's a money thing for a player, they could essentially walk on and still get part of their tuition paid for anyway.

There are a couple options here. I think the first is, I wouldn't be surprised if 1-2 players are looking to transfer out. 2. Is I could see Clark pay for her way, talk about being selfless, but could happen. 3. Ava jones, whether through grayshirt, medical hardship, I think Iowa in its current situation will explore potential possibilities. I really think they want to play this out and try to let her play, but a grayshirt situation would potential work for both Ava and the Hawkeyes. She is likely 2 years out from even being able to play. We will see what happens, but I am fairly confident 1 spot opens possibly 2.

And Betts would be working with Coach Jensen, "the post whisperer".....
That's why I still have faith in Stuelke.

Unfortunately, that's why I don't think we can go for Morrow, because that would directly compete with Stuelke's playing time/development.

Betts wouldn't affect that at all IMO, as they will probably go with more 3-2 sets anyways next year, as opposed to Stuelke or Goodman/O'Grady as the lone post in a 4-1 set. That would leave us pretty damn small inside.

Watch Caitlyn give up her schollie to add a stud, team first.
As has been discussed, they can't do that. On womens they can have 15 players on the roster, including walk ons, so CC "walking on" would solve absolutely nothing. This is another reason they have a "practice team" of young men that they work against. Partly because of more physical play, but also because they can't just add a bunch of walk ons' .....

Again 15 TOTAL players on the roster.....

Lisa would have to pull a scholarship or "encourage" someone to transfer.....I don't think she would do either.
You are discounting the fact someone may already be wanting to leave. We don't have that information. I don't think Lisa tells anyone to leave. She will take this team as is, however I do think they will get at least 1 transfer. A grayshirt for Ava effectively would change nothing in the big picture.

JFC, what is wrong with some of you fans? You get a tase of success and it's get back to title game at all costs? It's Blatantly obvious that Bluder loves her players and takes pride in them being role models, ethics, values, etc.

Bluder is careful when it comes to team chemistry, and a lot of you want to say F it and start chucking players because "we need a roster spot ". My God I want to win as well but let's pump the brakes a bit with adding 3 transfers. I'd be happy with the 6'7 Sophomore but that's it for next year.

I think, that most here are simply stating that its possible that someone will be transferring on their own. There does seem to be some smoke about a couple of players that an assistant is following, so its possible the coaches already know of something that we obviously do not.

With NIL and the popularity of Iowa WBB, why worry about scholaship availability? Clark could easily give up her scholly. I suspet that Marshall could also do very well with NIL

So to be clear, You are OK with “chucking” one player to get the 6ft7 gal? Seems a tad hypocritical to me.

The problem is there’s a limit to 15 roster spots and even if someone walks on that counts against you.

Yes, could be chicken or egg thing. 1. Someone has informed the staff they intend to leave, so coaches know scholarship will open. Or 2. Coaches have communicated to their players they intend to add a transfer big. Regardless, I trust the professionalism and class of Lisa and her staff.

I need to preface this for the nth time because I'm not at all rooting for anyone to leave. Love this team and how they are like a family to each other. But there's a chance a current backup big may want to move on. All the current bigs beyond Stuelke have been backups for at least two years.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. That is part of what this site is for. Who are you to state that your opinion is the one and final opinion? What if Iowa takes 2 or 3 transfers if the scholarships come available? How about we all let this play out. Other major schools (So. Carolina, Connecticut, UCLA , etc) think they are in the running for Betts too.

With 14 available players available next year at least 5 will see minimal playing time. Some of those 5 may want to be in a program that will allow them more PT. If they elect to leave that would NOT be considered running a player off. If they desire to stay that is their choice and I agree that Lisa would not run them off. My guess is that the staff has an a good idea if any player is seriously considering leaving. I also surmise Lisa is requesting quick answers.

We keep talking about this and people keep saying the same thing. To my understanding, ALL players whether on a full ride or not count against the 15 max on the squad. We are at 15. Clark giving up her ride would NOT change anything because she still counts as 1 of the 15. They get 15 compared to the mens team only getting 13 rides.

Maybe someone mentioned it already in the other thread, but Lauren's younger sister, Sienna, is also a very good high school player.
Yes, that's another caveat that's important. Getting Betts could help stabilize our place in the upper echelon if it means possibly getting her sister too beyond the elder Betts stay here. The coaches def. know this too.

No. I'm under the assumption if Iowa is truly attempting this they will do it because they can.
Agreed. People need to stop assuming anybody wants people kicked out. Nobody has said that. Well, nobody except for Evil Monkeys insinuation earlier lol.

People in this thread should read the above post as many times as it takes for it to sink in. Part of having integrity as a coach is being honest with players about their chances for future playing time.

Since Bluder by all accounts score highly in the integrity column, she’s going to be upfront with a few of the young ladies on the team about their lack of playing time going forward. Usually at least some of the players who get this talk end up transferring. Iowa isn’t going to run anyone off, but there will likely be some attrition because Bulder is a straight shooter.

An idea 💡 I haven’t seen raised…. What about Martin or Marshall paying their last season? They’ve been on a paid scholarship for 4 years now.

It might be worth it to them to get a very legit shot at a national championship.

13 rides but 15 players suited up for the men’s team

So NIL seems like the simplest solution. The idea of a player being run off doesn't make a ton of sense to me. The BIG since 2014 (unless something has changed) guarantees scholarships for student athletes, so I'm not sure how that would work.

It sounds like that wouldn’t work because there can only be 15 roster spots. Even if it would, why would our good players that actually play pay their own way? If someone was switching to a walk-on, it should be someone at the end of the bench that isn’t contributing in games. Those players would be better to just get NIL.

thats what you perceive??? nobody that I know wants to kick players out. but its not unreasonable to want a very talented girl to join the team WITHOUT sacrificing our integrity.

Iowa isn’t adding 3 transfers but it wouldn’t surprise me if they didn’t get a big.

Why do we need to “pump the brakes”? Iowa has a generational talent, I say full steam ahead!

By bringing back Martin and Marshall, it means that the anyone who was hoping to get time at the 2/3 might have to wait yet another year. While they could stay a year to see if Iowa can get back to a title run, it would not be unreasonable for someone to decide they would rather have actual playing time at another school. With Addie/Sharon./AJ all being effectivly in the same class, it would not be shocking to see one of them make a move. So its possible that there is a spot open that we dont yet know about. But most of us are hoping that the decision would be a case of a player doing what is best for them rather than a coach being unwilling to live up to the commitment the university made to the players when recruiting them. EI: be a good team member, play by the rules and you will have a slot for four years should you choose to stay at Iowa.
