Doyle Sidelined with Left Hand Fracture

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa women’s basketball junior guard Kathleen Doyle suffered a third and fourth metacarpal fracture in her left (non-shooting) hand in practice on Friday. Doyle is expected to miss 4-6 weeks.

Doyle, a native of LaGrange Park, Illinois, averaged 11.1 points, 6.6 assists, and 3.7 rebounds in 30 games last season. The Preseason All-Big Ten selection ranked 12th nationally in assists per game. She led the Big Ten with 7.5 assists per game in conference action last season.

Is it me, or are there WAY more injuries in basketball, men and women, than there were, say, 25 years ago? Knee and ankle injuries would occur occasionally, and Kenny Arnold played with a cast on his broken hand, but in recent years it seems there is a much wider variety of injuries and that there are far more of them.

In any event, bad luck for the 13th-ranked Hawkeyes. But if it had to happen, better now than later. We hope for a quick and full recovery.

Similar injury to what Mak Meyer had last year. MaKenzie was out over 3 weeks. Missed 6 games.
Kathleen will miss a lot of non-conference games, and the games in Bimini. Also probably out for Notre Dame.

Does Vegas post odds over the summer on which of our gals will have to sit for an extended period of time? Good Lord that group seems jinxed.
