what have republicans done to help the middle class?

So what's the function of government then? Take your money and give you nothing in return?
Just wait until they start attacking Social Security and Medicaid, which only hurts the middle class. More theft by the wealthy, but hey! Let's vote for that. Cutting SS does NOT hurt the wealthy. It hurts the rest of us, yet we have middle class Americans fine with it because it beats being a democrat. SMH.

A cut and paste response that doesn't give a concrete example that I asked for.

I bet you a $1,000 you are better off with the 2017 tax cuts.

Once again, the MAJORITY of my clients are MIDDLE CLASS and the MAJORITY of them BENEFITED from REPUBLICAN tax cuts.

Come back with a better argument.
The Trump tax cuts for the middle class haven't expired yet so yes I probably pay less taxes, but that doesn't mean wealthy Americans haven't benefited more. How about you provide a concrete example of tickle down economics working?

How about you provide a concrete example of tickle down economics working?

Why should I?

That's not what I'm arguing. I'm arguing that the middle class has benefited from Republicans which was the topic of the post.

I'm not discussing trickle down economics.

I'm not an economist. I'm an accountant with real world experience that the majority on here do not have. They only believe what they see on the news/tv.

I'd guess 80% of the United States population have ZERO clue about income tax.

please be specific

1. Tax Reform

  • 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA):
    • Lower Tax Rates: Reduced federal income tax rates for many middle-class taxpayers.
    • Increased Standard Deduction: Doubled the standard deduction, simplifying taxes for many middle-income households.
    • Child Tax Credit Expansion: Increased the child tax credit, benefiting families with children.
    • Elimination of Individual Mandate Penalty: Repealed the Affordable Care Act's individual mandate, reducing a financial burden on some middle-class households.

2. Economic Growth and Job Creation

  • Deregulation: Advocated for rolling back regulations on businesses, with the claim that it spurs job growth and reduces costs passed on to consumers.
  • Energy Policies: Promoted domestic energy production, including oil and gas, to create jobs and keep energy costs lower for households.
  • Trade Agreements: Supported agreements like the USMCA (United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement) to protect American jobs in key industries like manufacturing and agriculture.

3. Small Business Support

  • Tax Incentives for Small Businesses: Provided tax cuts and incentives for small businesses, which employ a significant portion of the middle class.
  • Paycheck Protection Program (PPP): During the pandemic, Republicans supported PPP loans to help small businesses retain employees, many of whom are middle-class workers.

4. Healthcare Cost Reforms

  • While opposing the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Republicans have advocated for policies aimed at:
    • Reducing premiums through market-driven approaches.
    • Expanding health savings accounts (HSAs), allowing middle-class families to save pre-tax dollars for medical expenses.

Give examples please and thank you.

$100 says you can't and only believe what you hear from the news/commercials.

I'll hang up and listen.

Was this:

Give tax breaks to the top 1% that trickle down to the poors.

So I thought you were arguing the benefits of trickle down economics. I apologize if that was not your intent.

Assisting people and providing services is literally the only thing the government should be doing.
Defense.
And what the HELL is meant by “assisting people”? If you mean defending our country so we all continue to live free in the USA then yes.

So what's the function of government then? Take your money and give you nothing in return?
The function of the government is to do what the people say.

Take your money and give you nothing in return?
They do that well enough already.

The bipartisan think tank Economic Innovation Group (EIG) says that 53% of Americans draw at least a quarter of their income from government.

This should never be that high. Our government was never designed to be a source of income.

the trade agreement trump negotiated and hailed as great...but now is so insufficient we're threatening tariff wars with those countries?

Technically, the government can't give you anything, that it hasn't already taken from you,... So, since the government is basically little more than a parasite with the ability to perform some useful functions, it's reach should be limited.

We had the strongest middle class in history because of big government assistance. Then Reagan started demonizing big government and cutting taxes for the wealthy and corporations. Trouble for the middle class ever since.
And 5 dems POTUS later why is it still that way torg?

You have got to be kidding. This is precisely what I talked to you about yesterday. You refuse to learn things. Incredible.
I really don't think there's much you can teach me, but I'll continue to let you give it a shot. I don't claim to know everything about everything.

I'm actually impressed by how bold you've become in the past few months. Baffle 'em with BS, and think you're pulling it off takes some brass.

Case in point. You really are choosing willful ignorance. It's a shitty quality. You called the way Republicans voted on issues, that hurt middle class people, "talking points". Look at the votes. They're public record. They don't pass bills or vote for bills that help everyday Americans. Why did they vote against lowering gas prices? Against lowering insulin costs? Baby formula costs? Counter it smart guy. Or better yet, admit you're wrong.

Sure seems like this is the world Rs want to live in. Governments been taking my money my whole life. I expect services for it. But the Rs keep trying to strip those services.

You see things through a Us v Them set of glasses, it's both of them. It's about money and money for their donors. We have a system that has become a system that is about the most donations and not about the American voter. Both parties are guilty of it.

Rs are trying to jack with my Social Security. I've been paying into that for decades. Eff those Republican thieves. It's my money. Keep your grubby Republican fingers off it.

Those tax cuts did next to nothing for my family. Not even noticeable.

I couldn't agree more. But much of the 90's both parties stole from it and we were left with a huge bowl of IOU's. Both parties like to get into SS. Laws need to be passed to stop them from stealing from it.

I understand.

No I was basically arguing about the "Give tax breaks to the top 1%" comment.

People believe this because that's what the news and political ads tell them.

Can you provide a link from a credible source that shows a Republican bill that would LOWER YOUR benefit?

This is an honest request.

If it's the Social Security Fairness Act that has bipartisan support.
