what was your first job

In high school I was the caretaker of the Little League. Had to get the field ready, keep the book, find umps etc...

I remember it conflicting with my baseball season enough it was a pain in the ass

Babysat, did yard work, bailed hay and walked beans until 15. I also did some other farm work at my grandpa's place. First real job was a cook at a buffet at a whopping $2.85/hour. Did that through Christmas break of my sophomore year of college until the place closed. Lots of great times and friends came from those years.

Didn't get an allowance as a kid. Got paid a few cents a day for washing milking machines. Also paid 10 to 25 cents an hour on the tractor cultivating crops in the summer.

Working for neighborhood farmers baling hay for my first non family job. Unloading semis at a nursery warehouse. Being a valet car parker at an Italian restaurant.

Paper carrier for 7 years, other than that I worked in the kitchen at a nursing home for one summer. That was really the only job I had until I graduated high school.

I worked for my dad's small construction company on the weekends.

My first job outside of the family was a Rally's hamburgers.

Paper boy for Penny Saver. Literally pennies per paper.

Than a page at the library. Yep I was doing all I could to keep the teenage poon (no pics) off me

Worked at Target during high school. Mostly unloading truck, stocking shelves and storing excess in the back. After the early morning rush, the rest of the day was easy. It was hot unloading truck and slinging boxes but it did keep me in shape.

Paper boy for the Rag, Detassaling, Hardees, Winnebago Security were my jobs from MS through College..

I was a referee for Iowa City Kickers from age 12 - 16 or so. I can only imagine that parents are even worse now.

Besides the usual farm chores, my first job away from home was detassling corn. Got $1.40/hr, but on Sundays it went up to $2.10/hr.

I swore that first field I de-tasseled was 3 miles long, and there was a huge pond in the middle of it.

Attendant at my dad's gas station.
First job outside of family was a cashier at a department store.

This board teaches me a lot about a different culture. Until this thread, I had no idea that beans needed to be walked.

I was a young entrepreneur. I started mowing yards at 12, then entered into illegal (claimed by authorities, though none ever showed me sufficient proof of the illegality) candy sales and loan sharking.

Lots of lawn mowing as a kid. Like many Iowa kids, I detassled a couple summers. My first real regular job was delivering pizza for the Dominoes on Riverside, next to the Hungry Hobo.

First money I earned was going to rural auctions in the summer and selling soft drinks from the back of my dad's pickup.

First paycheck (at 16) was working "vector control" for the city of Burlington, which meant driving the mosquito fogger, baiting rat traps around town, and other stuff intended to stop the spread of disease.

First full time, professional job was Systems Analyst with NCR.

Mom's mile long chore list along with delivering papers and detasseling. I did hold a brief stint as a quasi saleskid. Going door to door trying to sell people my things. Surprisingly it worked.:)

Similar. I kept the books for a little league while I was 14-15.

My first real job was bagging groceries.

Working in the warehouse/helping customers load furniture into their vehicles at good ol K’s Merchandise in CR. Started when I was 16 and quit my freshman year of college when they were getting ready to close.
