This is a big time opportunity for the Hawks; first off, we got a nice bracket. Davidson is beatable; Gonzaga (probable next opponent) is beatable, which would lead to the Sweet 16.

If Iowa were lucky and fortunate enough to make the Sweet 16, Iowa would be favored over #11 seed UCLA or #14 seed UAB; then we are talking Elite 8, with just one win from the Final 4.

Yes, I am getting ahead of myself; fans, as fans do, can speculate and look ahead, while still respecting our upcoming opponent; how cool is it that Iowa fans can ACTUALLY have this discussion?

Meanwhile, let's hope the players are seeing the carnage from all of the upsets and are taking it one game at a time. If they stay focused on the task at hand, who knows what will happen?

Iowa fans are due for a nice ride in the Big Dance.

I'm just hoping they are tired of fielding questions about how great of shooters Davidson are and they come out themselves with something to prove. Pound the ball inside, and kickout when doubles come and Jok and Jarred, along with Josh off the bench knock down their open looks.

Limit turnovers and own the glass and get to the foul line and that's a winning formula.

Whistles are gonna be important in this game. It seemed like a lot of games yesterday they really let guys get pretty physical compared to years past (UAB/ISU was one of those instances). If we get to the line a lot, it's gonna be really really tough for Davidson to shoot their way to victory. They don't like to have a big disparity in total fouls called.

That is one of my many gripes about collegiate officials. This was very noticeable in our game against Illinois. The Illini were hacking our players all night, but in both halves, after we got in the bonus so quickly the refs seemed to suddenly forget how to blow their whistle as if they were struggling from whistle-fatigue.

It seems to happen in Michigan State games too. These teams play extremely physical defense and basically commit a foul on every posession, but the refs seem to believe that there is a cap on how many fouls they can call so they start lettiing much of the physical play go uncalled.

Additionally, when these teams do rack up a bunch of fouls in a few minutes, the next few minutes are filled with foul calls against their opposition, even if the opposition is not playing the same type of aggressive defense.

I get that officiating is not easy. But you know what, no professional job is easy. For the most part, officials do a very good job, but it's frustrating to see the same mistakes be repeated (especially with how easily refs seem to be tricked by flopping).

Hopefully they come out with a chip on their shoulder. Their last game was a week ago and they played like crap. I hope they just play smart and take care of the ball and play to their strengths. Do not give Davidson any hope, just pound he ball down low and guard the 3pt line.

Also would like to see Iowa use the 2-2-1 press a lot today. Need to at least slow them down and don't allow any open looks in transition.


If they shoot the 3 ball there will be a lot of LONG rebounds that we must get to. Can't give them 2nd chance points.

as long as the players are not looking ahead, we should be fine; they saw all the upsets yesterday and hopefully know that you can't take anyone lightly

last year we all watched TN make the Sweet 16 and thought that should have been us; I would imagine the players thought this, too

This year I hope the players can make a mini run and take the program to the next level

I see Iowa getting by Davidson rather easily; however, I am less confident of them getting by Gonzaga. Iowa has definite size advantages over Davidson; however, those advantages evaporate against Gonzaga. I would love to see an Iowa vs. UCLA Sweet 16.

I can't......spot on.

Its called the "Pistons Effect" after the bad boy Pistons strategy of fouling so much that the officials will eventually just stop calling all but the most obvious. Illinois did do that to Iowa. Hawks probably could have shot twice as many free throws.

Its like Michigan State has the reputation for being super physical, even by B1G standards. Its the same thing, although a lot of Sparty love also explains the officials reluctance to put Sparty in foul trouble.

Second that. Hope they don't play uptight. A couple of early 3s might loosen things up and gets the ball rolling in the right direction.

When Iowa faces a team that can punch them in the mouth, they lose. I don't think Davidson can do that, but (assuming they win) Gonzaga can. It's that simple for me. It's a matter of team mental toughness.

Iowa absolutely must beat Davidson...it would 180 how everybody views this season retrospectively. Words cannot accurately describe what winning today could do for the program. Iowa would be somewhat back to the Tom Davis level in a lot of ways by winning today. Losing could tail-spin the program.

Great win for the Hawks. They played loose and knocked down shots that they haven't made with consistency this year. It's all about making shots and getting some confidence early on in the game. Playing D and working the boards. They did it all this game and it was fun to watch their reactions and attitudes on the court during the game.

Which team will show up against Gonzaga remains to be seen. If they play like they did against Davidson they have a great chance to move and maybe have a date with you know who in the Sweet Sixteen. How much fun would it be to bury the Bruins and move on to the next level?
