What would you do if your child came out as transgender?

I went to dinner last night with some old co-workers and one told me their 10 year son recently has asked them to call them "she" or "her"

This is an element of the pronoun thing that I have never understood,.. Terms like he, she, him, her, it, them, they, etc... are all used in the absence of the individual in question,.. Why would you care how someone might refer to you when you're not even present?,.. When they are present I'd simply refer to them by name.

Are your dollars more valuable than mine? If we are paying into the insurance pool, I don't want to pay for cosmetic procedures. As far as functioning normally without pain, I said I'm ok with paying for puberty blockers, that allows time to save up for surgery.
WTF does that have to do with anything? If you don't want to be a part of the insurance pool, don't get insurance.

Again, it's absurd that you would compare gender affirming surgery to a cosmetic procedure.

How does anyone know they're trans, especially kids?

That's what I'm curious about. They can't know what it's like being the opposite sex.

Is it all based on feelings? Because then they could identify as anything.

They could identify as Napoleon. It doesn't make it so.
The Ship of Theseus paradox.

My dollars are valuable, I don't think they should be wasted on smokers and alcoholics.

Because it will raise premiums, I would have to see the cost per policy before I could agree to it.
Not necessarily. The long term benefits of the procedure likely results in other medical costs being avoided. That's one of the reasons for doing it.

And that has nothing to do with "Are your dollars more valuable than mine?".

Maybe cost analysis could persuade me

Or maybe decency?
Look dude, I don’t care what anyone does as long as it’s not going to hurt anyone else and I’m not paying for it( tax payer dollars). You can call me indecent, but I, as of now, don’t want the government to pay for sex change operations, nor do I want to pay for it. I would rather pay for mental health care for more people

It demonstrates how short sighted you are on top of being selfish.

lol, ok. You know when you think a moderate who is open minded is extreme, it’s probably more of an indication about you. Edit to say, Islam still sucks

Another update:

It’s obviously been a somber and rough few days on campus. There are lots of LGBTQ students at this college and most are really struggling with this incident, as well as straight students who knew the deceased well, mostly because everyone feels like it was avoidable. My son has texted my wife and I multiple times thanking us for our support and understanding during his transition.

I’m sorry this thread took a predictable turn into absurdity. That was not my intention.

There are also a lot of faux Christians who are not acting Christ like at all, be better. Jesus accepted everyone, so should you, regardless of your feelings.

✌🏼& ❤️ to all!!!

Remember when I mentioned politicians using this issue cravenly for their own benefit? Enter Ken Paxton of TX, who has charged a doctor for providing medical care.
Paxton doesn’t give AF about the health of trans kids. They are a tool of self promotion for him, and a fund raising opportunity.

Who's going to pay for the daycare workers and insurance reimbursement? Sounds like it's coming out of that insurance pool.
It’s reducing insurance outlays by improving national health, reducing diabetes and obesity. Use the savings

Are you saying savings start day 1? If not, who pays for it until the savings start?
We get the insurance to invest, long term it’s going to save them big money on meds, heart procedures, ortho on knees and hips, though it may be neutral on shoulder issues. This if all pie in the sky, prior are lazy and don’t want the government telling them to workout, even though it would vastly improve their health, lifestyle, appearance, confidence, etc.

I have no idea what you are getting at here. Do you think the savings start day 1? If not, who pays the additional costs until they start?

I literally said the insurance companies would have to invest. They will reap the rewards, by making the up front investment…god knows they have a ton of money and it would somehow be a charitable tax write off for them. I’m not saying this would happen. I just hate how fat and lazy , nutritionally uneducated, stuck thinking fat of the new normal that this country has become.

What is the incentive for insurance companies to invest? What rewards will they reap?

I'm getting the sense you don't understand how insurance works.

so when the consensus among medical professionals is that "sex change operations" are included in or part of mental health care, your response is what?

"no its not because i don't like it"?

That I would continute to pay for meds and counseling. Can you tell me the average cost of a sex change..both ways, M to F and F to M?

It would benefit all of America to implement some type of gym membership incentive/discount on your rate

so when a doctor who's patient has gone through "meds and counseling" now recommends surgery, you think "no, that's too far. my feelings about the subject negate this doctor's educated, medical opinion"
