Whoopi Goldberg on The View about Angel Reese

Not that I’m trying to stick up for Angel Reese, but do you really think a 21 year old kid deserves death threats just because she’s a little cocky?
I would guess hundreds of thousands of people get death threats via social media everyday.

It’s no longer “wow worthy”. Frankly, I don’t take them seriously at all.

How many celebs have gotten death threats on social media and did in fact get murdered?

What's the saying? You reap what you sow?
Do we know she really got death threats?

Interesting thread. Got one poster saying she deserves it. Two now who imply she’s lying. One saying everybody gets them so it’s no big deal. Hoping none of them have daughters.

Angel wants push her ring finger into someone's face and play the badass and then turn around and then play the victim whenever she gets backlash. She can't have her cake and eat it too. Complaining about being sexualized? Why take all the sexual photoshoots then? She a confused young lady going about things the wrong way and needs some self reflection.

I am going to stick with my original assessment. Boo fvcking hoo.

It is pretty simple. You don't get to choose the attention you receive. No matter what you do, some will look at it one extreme way and others will look at it at the other extreme. It's going to draw crazies and crazies say stupid shit. Accept it and move on.

Her past behavior shows she's a low character individual at this point in her life. So yes, I'm skeptical of her receiving real death threats. If she in fact did, its disgusting and the person doing so should be arrested and charged. But let's not pretend Miss Reese doesnt behave like someone who'd clearly exaggerate something like this.

I think this is a fair point, but I also don't think that doing swimsuit pictures for a popular magazine should be an invitation to type out and tell her all the lewd things one would do to her sexually. I also don't think just because she talks trash on the court should be an invitation to hoping she dies.

Right?

Dude...she's a kid. She was 20 when she won the natty.

The issue is that most people that watch sports understand trash talking and competitiveness. Clark does it, most players do it to some extent. The issue I had with her rests solely at the end of the title game last year. Talking is fine; following someone around the court and taunting went beyond that imo.

I realize that and I'm not ragging on her. I am simply saying that she can't control it so to worry about it is essentially pointless. Worrying about it will do more harm than good. It is a lesson everyone must learn at some point. Control what you can control, forget about the rest. It also wouldn't hurt if she could do a little self reflection and consider how an SI Swimsuit Edition spread might "sexualize" her. Actions have consequences and they're not always the consequences you want.

My only problem with Reese is that she was compelled to be humble only after the loss. She came off as playing the victim. As far as being sexualized, she posts a lot of videos wearing next to nothing so that made no sense to me.

Not sure about the death threats but it wouldn’t surprise me. People stay stupid stuff online and the alter ego kicks-in due to no accountability. No one deserves death threats.

Don’t care for the View, bunch of washed up hacks always trying to make mountains from ant hills.

How is it possible that this is the first time we've heard about death threats? Has LSU commented on the death threats? Have any law enforcement agencies commented?

If this has legs then I hope it's taken seriously by law enforcement and they chase the scumbags down.

No doubt, and I agree to an extent. I just remember when I was 20 and it was hard to just let "bygones be bygones". Hell, I'm 33 now and it's still hard to only worry about what I can control. Now add in the possibility of death threats? Shit man, that would be terribly hard to just "accept and move on". Maybe it's how I'm wired or maybe it has more to do with immaturity on my part.

There's people in this thread who are basically saying she deserves it. Look at the hoops @onlyTheObvious is trying to jump through to justify his thinking that it's no big deal a young woman is receiving death threats.

I'm very pleased that my daughters didn't grow up to be aggrieved women always playing the feminist angle. The women of The View are off-putting. An air of militancy when it comes to women's issues.

Wasn’t it Don Imus who referred to a women’s national championship team on his radio show as “nappy-haired hos” or something to that effect?

Most likely, you’re addressing Trump supporters who do not understand the impact public figures saying stupid shit can have on others. Yes, Angel Reese is a 20-year-old who has some growing up to do—I know, a rarity with college kids. The fact she posed for an SI swimsuit shoot and a year later is talking about being sexualized is a pretty good indicator she has yet to fully mature (since science shows us the human brain does not fully develop until mid to late 20s that should be obvious to anyone with a functioning brain beyond the level of a prokaryote).

But, Angel Reese got a little cocky and full of herself (kinda like her head coach—the crazy white lady), and had the audacity to do it while black, so therefore she deserves every bad thing that comes her way. Oh, but nothing bad has come her way, because there’s no credible link proving or disproving her veracity, which clearly means she is making false claims while black, even though she deserves the death threats, if they were credible but there’s no proof of them, so Angel Reese should just “shut up and dribble,” because the real victim here is Donald Trump, who, as you well know, has been treated “so unfairly,” because all he’s ever done in life is tell the truth and sacrifice of himself for the greater good like Jesus did. If Angel Reese could just be as humble and truthful as Donald Trump (and change her sex and her skin color from black to orange) then she wouldn’t have these problems.

the only people who care about the view are the people who get angry at things said on the view

If you're bringing Trump into this debate you seriously need to seek fuxking help. Good lord man.

Why is this a daughter thing? So a boy getting death threats is better?

Put all three together and she'll get no sympathy. Do you really think this would have been her response had they won?
Also, she is a millionaire and an adult. Yes, in the social media era, death threats aren't what they used to be, not saying she deserved them (if she did get them, sorry but that skepticism is due to angel's actions).
She sold this image to make money and in today's world the consequences were predictable.

Everything you said regarding Angel Reese is 100% accurate.

Law enforcement would grind to a halt if all social media death threats were taken seriously and investigated.

That’s a fact. You don’t have to like it but pretending every death threat is going to be taken seriously is naive.

Anytime you put yourself out in the public eye, you're going to get criticism and praise. Doesn't matter what it is, basketball, President, the construction guy directing traffic. If you're in the public, you're going to get "feedback", and some times it's not going to be good. There are times when your actions also impact the praise and criticism.
When Angel pointed to her ring finger at the end of last years game, that seemed to be excessive. Had it ended then, it probably would have been nothing, but she chose to continue that hand gesture and make it her personal icon. If you noticed on the ESPN advertisement of the last game, the picture of CC looked like it was after making a 3, while AR's picture was her pointing to her finger. If I was AR or LSU, and I cared so much, I would have asked ESPN to use a different picture, but they didn't, and that's because AR (and LSU) liked playing the bad guy, or bully. Maybe they've learned something about themselves and in the future will take a different path.

Right?
Obviously, but there is no self-reflection that she is her own biggest enemy. Has she come about and atoned for her past behaviors? It contrasts brightly with the class that Caitlin shows. Many people have egged Caitlin on about the rivalry and she always takes the high road. I don't think Reece has the quality of support system to handle this fame. Death Threats and sexual messages are partly an internet/social media issue that is new in society and she doesn't have the tools to deal with it.

And has a trashy role model as a head coach to be mentored by. My guess is Kim Mulkey is the one who pumped her team’s head full of bullshit last year that the Iowa women’ team was so disrespectful (because they had the audacity to Final Four while being white).

The bottom line is people have a lot of growing up to do. Right or wrong, trash talk has been a part of the game for a long time. One of the biggest trash talkers was Larry Bird. Pretty much all black players and fans respected him for it. Fast forward to 2023 when a 20-year-old black female does it, and watch how many middle-aged white men, who have never had any moment of relevance in sports, become triggered to the point of losing their minds.

It’s ridiculous. 🙄

Jfc stfu with the maga Trump stuff in one bleeping thread you flipping mindless drone! There's clearly posters in this thread that have the ability to have an opinion on the topic that has nothing to do with politics or Trump so seriously get a grip.
No, he’s right. There is a strong correlation whether you like it or not.
