Kraisser escape. 6-2 Franek. Kennedy going to ride out the period. Caliendo up against Brenner from Minny gets a TD and then turns him for 4. Up 7-0.
Kennedy quick escape and up 4-0. Then a TD to lead 7-0. Franek up 6-3. Caliendo up 7-1
Kennedy over 2 min riding time. Caliendo with a nice duck under for 3. Up 10-1.
Yes. And you’re not paying attention. Guys have to be at their best weight for NCAAs.
And to be honest, if we truly want to catch Carl - we HAVE to blue chippers on the bench.
Kennedy rides out the 2nd. 7-0 with 2:51 riding time. Franek starts down and out in about 30 sec. 7-3. Caliendo gives up escape and then gets another TD. 13-2. Kennedy up 10-0. Franek with a TD and gets 2 backs. Up 12-3
Caliendo up 16-3. Franek wins 13-3. Kennedy wins 11-0. Caliendo lets him up and gets 3 for the TF. 19-4

Gabe up against Elise Brown Ton from Nebby. This guy is pretty good. Good test for Gabe.
Gabe scoreless after 1. Nebby defers and Gabe goes down. Swensen with a TD and beats Johnson in OT 4-1. He gets Franek in the final. Gabe out in 13 sec.
Point taken about best weights. But wouldn’t be the first hawk to wrestle not optimal weight to help team.
Blue chippers on the bench with holes in the line up is more of a concern then blue chips on bench and line up filled with top notch guys. We are gettin close imho just confused on what we do at 84
Blue chips on the bench is only a good thing when the lineup is full of blue chips, it’s not happening but the best team for Iowa will not be put out there this year
Yeah good point. With the college grind - if he is healthy and has a shot to win - why not let him go.

He’s not. 3-4 coming in and was majored by both Arrington and Henson. Solid, not good.
Anyway, I was impressed regardless—I give Ferrari a ton of credit for grinding it out. He’s barely competed the past 1.5 years and hasn’t spent any actual time in a D1 room. Impressive, in my book.

Gabe also won’t be the first true frosh Hawk to choose to redshirt over wrestling up a weight.
And we aren’t that close. At all. A few points out of Gabe at 184 doesn’t move the needle.
We just can’t care about duals at this point. Have to show recruits that you can win titles at Iowa. Sucks, but it’s the direction we need to go.
He’s cutting a lot to get to 149 - expect more of this as the season goes. He’ll probably hit a stride in a month or so where it won’t affect him as much.
