2 deeps this fall

1 6'3 Bowen 6'0 Harding
2 6'4 Perkins 6'5 Dix
3 JR 6'7 Sanfort FR 6'7Sanfort
stretch 4 6'9 Patric true 4 6'9 Dembele
5 6'9 Kikke 6'11 Freeman/ 7' Mulvey

my guess is that 6'9 Braun and 6'3 Nimmers get the last 2 scholarship.
Pmac as a 4 just does nothing for me. Little defense or rebounding. This is one of the real issues with Fran's "positionless ball". We have four or five guys who are 3's, he keeps trying to play Perkins and Dix at the 1, and neither is a point guard against good defensive teams, same as trying to get PS in the starting lineup last year as a 2. No way he can defend at that position unless we have other defenders around him, which of course we don't.

I agree with you whole heartedly, but I'm hoping that the European summer trip in August will sort things out. If Fran plays Krikke at the 5, he is not a center by any stretch of the imagination, maybe in the MAC because what i saw in videos he was one of the tallest players on the court, but not in the Big Ten. As I said everything will sort it's self out before the start of season.
Even though Patrick is going to be a senior, I'm still not sold that he will play extended minutes as a starter, maybe that's my inner person speaking but his body is just not set up to play extended minutes and Patrick is more of a 3 then a 4 and as most have said, he is not a very good defensive player by any means.

posted from a hater that knows nothing about BB. nor do you follow Iowa BB,

funny thing about Fran's teams is that when Fran needs someone to step up. they ussually do.

Gatens LEFT and Dev stepped in
Dev left and White stepped up
then Uthoff stepped up
then Jok stepped up
then Cook stepped up
then Garza
then Keagon
then Kris
this year who knows as for rebounding Fran's teams rebounding it is done by committee as it should be done.

in fact it is my hope that no one player leads this team like prior season. they can be led like this

15-16 ppg
13-14 ppg
11 ppg
10 ppg
10 ppg
9 ppg
8 ppg
and points as needed.

Switch Sandfort and PMAC. Brauns, Mulvey and Freeman at 5. Krikke, Dembele and Freeman at 4. Much better rebounding, IMHO, with this option. Leaving Nimmers off 2 deeps is a no no, he has to get on the court for us.

Sorry, rook but your so far off base, it just shows how clueless you are.
I've followed Iowa basketball for 40-50 years. I'm the farthest thing on here from "a hater". As for rebounding, "Frans teams are hardly solid as rebounders or on defense, and if you think that you are clueless. As for guys stepping up, here is THE issue. Someone steps up because Fran runs his offense through ONE main guy most of the time. So ONE guy with talent puts up big numbers. Gatens, Dev, White, Utoff, Jok, Garza, Keagan, and then Kris. Great, we've had a bunch of guys who put up 1st team all B1G numbers. And where does it get us most years? Nice offense, little defense and below average rebounding. TWO NPOTY, several B1G players of the year, and ZERO regular season titles, and ZERO NCAA tourney trips past the first weekend. WHY. Poor guard play, overall especially at the point, and poor roster construction. Fran has not developed guards and Guards and defense travel on the road and control the tourney. Don't believe me, fine, just go back and look at the last 13 years of Iowa basketball.
As for Patrick, he's probably a great kid, but he' thinks he has guard skills and plays like he's 6'3" on a 6'9" body. He shies away from contact, and can't finish around the hoop so he's a perimeter player who as a 4 is a poor rebounder, which is one of our major issues with him in the lineup.

have you ever dealt with cancer or had trouble putting weight on? at 6'9 185 you get pushed around. the 2 KM boys played at 220 lbs when they played the 4.

last season was the 1st time in his life he was over 200 lbs. last roster listing had him @ 210 lbs that makes a full 25 lbs heavier. Rebraca played at 230 lbs and he was pushed around.

this season Fran will have these for front court payers
FR Dembele 6'9 250 lbs
FR Freeman 6'11 225 lbs [HS weight]
JR Mulvey 6'11 245 lbs
SR Krikke 6'9 245 lbs who led his team in scoring 19.4 ppg, rebounding 5.9 and blocks 0.9 bpg.
Garza's best season was 9.8 rpg
Cook's best season was 6.8.
White who led Iowa in rebounding all 4 years best was 7.3

his last season Iowa was #30 adj defense.
12-13 SO season #24 adj defense
14-15 ajd defense #34
not bad for a coach thar can't coach defense.

but his lineup looked like this
7' Woodbury
6'9 White
6'6 Dev
6'4 May
6'0 Gesell who led the team in steals as a FR in 12-13 season as a FR. that year these were the top rebounders on the team
White 6.2
Basabe 5.1
Woodbury 4.9
Dev 4.0

nobody else avg more than 4 rpg and that team avg'd 39.4 rpg and that team won 25 games and lost to Baylor in the NIT Championship game. they also shot 30 pct from 3 as a team.and 70.4 ppg.

Lol. Good Lord, thats a WHOLE lot of typing which does nothing to disprove ANY of the issues that I or any one else has pointed out about Frans system. So THREE years out of 13 we had a decent defense, and just as many or more we were closer to the worst in D1. Okay. Also your listing of all these other teams just highlights Frans system isn't getting Iowa beyond an average 4-6th place league finish, ZERO conference regular season titles, and ZERO NCAA games past the first weekend, while having like 8 of the top scorers in Iowa basketball history play for him, including TWO NPOTY! Look I'm still a Hawk fan, never miss a game thats on, and probably will until the day I die. But CLEARLY if Fran is going to take this team somewhere meaningful, he needs to take a hard look at how he builds a roster, and uses players, stresses defense, and a myriad of smaller things. I mean we're a decent team who's somewhat above average, but after 13 years he's either going to make an effort to move the needle or he's not.

That two-deep looks pretty close to what I would expect, with the exception that I would put PaySand at the 4 and PMac at the 3. But that’s really just some semantics. Iowa fans will no doubt argue at length about who is better suited to be the 4, but the reality is both bring a certain set of strengths and weaknesses to the floor. At the end of the day, we are probably playing a 4-out offense with that group, so I don’t think it matters all that much.

I am hopeful that Nimmers and Brauns might contribute, but until I see something more than a few YouTube clips, I’m not going to count on anything. (And I don’t think Brauns is even officially confirmed to Iowa at this point.)

that's because you have made up your mind that this group is going to fail.
I like the make up of this seasons team.

Dembele reminds me of Reggie Evans in how he rebounds

@ 6'9 250 lbs 4* which Fran rarely gets when recruiting.
getting 6'11 Freeman a 4* by ESPN is another rare recruit
4* top 100 recruit all 3 services another rare type of recruit
these three are joining the team in June which does not happen very often.
then there is top 100 4* Koch already committed in the 2024 class.

the 23-24 roster will have these
4* Top 100 in Patrick
4* Top 100 Sandfort
4* Dembele by Rivals
4* Freeman by ESPN
that makes 4 4*s out of 11 players on this fall's team

Dude your laughable. First off, I haven't made up my mind about shit, and I hope they go undefeated. This is a message board, and we have 13 years of info to form an idea what we'll see, and this is what I see. Nothing more. And what in the name if sweet baby Jesus does Pmac being a 4 star have to do with anything? He's been in a uniform for THREE years, and we all know by now what his strengths are, and are not. What some rating service thought of him when he was 17 is totally meaningless at this point. Also we're discussing this season. What we get from the two frosh remains to be seen, ( I hope their great, but you can't just pencil that in either), and then throwing in a kid who wont even be on campus for another 16 months is mind boggling....

its obvious that you have never coached at any level or any sports.

if you had you would know that kids as a rule improve from year to year. Patrick has battled cancer for a long time, last summer he went to a Hospital in Minnesota to get his cancer under control. they did and they got his meds redone and now he can put the weight he needs to play.

Perkins suffered a deep bone bruise which you don't get over very quick. what it takes is rest. he would have been better off with a thigh bruise.

I am looking forward to watching this years team fully healthy. the last few years have been ravaged by injuries.

Fine. I love how you make assumptions about people you don't know at all with your "its obvious you've never done this, or don't know that", lol. So your putting out there that Pat is still dealing with cancer still ? Really? Where do you get that from? Also putting weight on, really isn't the issue all by itself. He has put on at least 30 pounds since his first year. He's just not a player with a physical mindset. If thats due to his cancer earlier, or what I don't know, but you can see it in his play. I hope he has an All american year, but I don't see it happening. Is that so hard for you to understand?

Uthoff is one I compare Pat to,
Uthoff JR stats
30.3 mpg. 12.4 ppg, 6.4 rpg
SR stata
31.5 mpg,18.9 ppg, 6.3 rpg
finished as a 2nd team AA

never expected that. just like you and other expect him to fail and in your case praying that he does.

this years leading score is yet to be determined, but I think the overseas trip will help sort it out as far as the pecking order.
Perkin and Pat as SR's will get the 1st look if fully healthy.
Krikke, Mulvey will get the 2nd look as they have the height to play the 5. even Freeman will get a solid look.

More of harding, dix please.
That's what she said ...

25 of those came over the last year. before last summer he was unable to put weight on.

in my lifetime I have coached FB, BB, Base Ball, even a semi-pro Soft Ball women team, something that is not for those with limited patience. the most enjoyable was my AAU Basket Ball team, watching them and develop from year to year.

it doesn't take a mind reader to figure it out that you never coached at a high level to see how kids develop from year to year no matter what sport.

Krikke led his team in 3 key catagories, Valpo had 7 SR's on last years team and 3 players that avg'd dbl digit sorers
these were the top rebounders
Green 4.6 pg
King 4.1 pg
Palm 4.0 pg
Krikke 5.9 pg
the team avg 34 pg and finished 10th out of 12 teams. Krikke could only do so much.
now Krikke will have a better cast to work with..

Baun had 5 SR's to play with and he was a JR. Belmont finished in a tie for 3rd out of 12 teams. he led Belmont in rebounding with 5.3 rpg and blocked shots with 1.4 bpg as a JR.

Belmont as a team only avg'd 33.8 rpg. Iowa as a team avg'd 36.3 rpg.
the question that I, are some of you expecting the new comers to increase the rebounding to 50 rpg?

My son's cancer is in remission. He will never be cured. Patrick had a nice Junior year, but last season got sidelined by illness and injuries. He even sat himself out of a few games to try and get himself right. We don't have any idea of what all he is dealing with and think he deserves some slack. As Gundy once famously said, if you want to hate on someone, hate on him. He's a grown man. Patrick is still just a young man trying to figure things out.

So here's the deal. Patrick will never be the same physically as he was before the cancer. He lost his thyroid as a result and that's a big deal for an athlete. With that said, Patrick will never be the player that people want him to be. Some of the projections people have thrown out there about him having NBA potential or the next Uthoff are so ridiculous that they defy logic. I'm sure Patrick and Fran thought that the sky was the limit before the cancer struck. Those dreams have now faded and that has to have taken a mental toll that came to a head along with everything else last year. Patrick is what Patrick is. He's a nice role player on a college team. No more, no less, and people should just accept him for what he is and let him enjoy the time he has playing for his dad. He deserves it.

I agree totally, which is why I said I din't see him making some big jump this year. He's just never going to be that guy, partly because earlier bout with the dreaded cancer. I wish him the best, truly....

Herby, I don't remember hearing of your coaching accolades before.

Are you making this up?

not about my past,

all you need is a coaching certificate as HS always have need for help with coaching these days. when I got into coaching there were more kids than coaches. as there are still more kids than coaches.

start at your local school then your local boys and girls club and go from there.

start with the younger kids as it will with developing patience. you will need a lot of patience. as you will make mistake just like the kids do,
