57 Daton Fix Bronze
I don't think he is there yet with Uguev or Takahashi, but anybody else in the bracket he can beat. Love watching Daton especially in freestyle, but I think the Flo guys are a bit too optimistic.

61 Tyler Graff 5th
non olympic weight is very cleared out. He is really good in par terre, I think he can win a couple of matches given that skillset and the lack of big names at this weight.

65 Zain Retherford DNP
If he gets the right draw he could make a run, but I won't be picking that. He seems to struggle against some of the super slick foreigners. We'll need to qualify this weight for the Olympics at Pan Ams.

70 James Green - 5th
he'snot there with the Georgian or David Baev but can beat anyone else in the weight. His inconsistency worries me but I will pick him to win bronze. He is helped out by the fact that is a pre-olympic year at a non-olympic weight. This weight is usually a little bit deeper.

74 Jordan Burroughs - Gold
JB gets back on top. He gets to Sidakovs legs every time he attacks them, I look for him to open up a little bit more this time around. Business as usual against Chamizo, he can't funk the blast double.

79 Kyle Dake - Gold
Not much to say here, he is far better than anyone else at this weight, which is not a deep one.

86 Pat Downey - DNP
Lets just hope he gets drawn into the top side and can manage to win a couple of matches to qualify the weight. This is a very tough weight and Downey has done little to prove he can go with the top guys internationally.

92 J'den Cox - Gold
Same situation as Dake

97 Kyle Snyder- Silver
Love Snyderman but Sadulaev is just too slick. I don't think he gets pinned this time, but I don't see a clear path to victory for him. The formula would have to be the same as the first match, don't get outslicked early, keep your hands on him and win in the second on conditioning and grit. Hope I am wrong.

125 Nick Gwiaz- Bronze
Akgul and the georgian are the class of this weight. Gwiaz is at the top of the second tier. I see him winning bronze comfortably.

Unfortunately I don't think that the above performance will be enough to beat Russia. If we had DT I think it would be a different story.

What say you?

Good picks, didn't go out on a limb on any. Fix is the biggest question mark for me.

I don't think Burroughs will beat Sidakov, however if he does he'll then see Chamizo in finals. Hoping for that to be the case.

I also predict one or more of our guys will get screwed because of the location of this tournament. Home field advantage will come into play.

Historically we always do worse in non-western locations. Something tells me Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan is not London or Montreal. On the other hand, Cox, Dake, and Burroughs will be hard to beat - anywhere. I predict we get screwed.

I agree, without Taylor One of our underdogs needs to come up with a big win against a Russian and all of the others need to get it done to beat them. If there is a close match I see all calls going their way. I’m amped up for our team! Great start to whats going to be a really great wrestling season!

With the risk of sounding unpatriotic, I'm just going to ask the question:

Do we want Daton Fix to medal?

No he is corny.

His little somersault to jump thing is whack and every four year old in America does it in their free time.

It’s cornier than Bo Nickal’s “that’s what we do” speech too.

I am not saying he is a bad dude or anything. I’m saying he is corny and we don’t need that kind of negativity in wrestling.

Daton Fix brings negativity because he does a somersault??? Little bit of a stretch there Banjo.

The angle I was getting at was directly related to either Spencer or Gilman's odds drastically dropping to rep USA in Tokyo if Fix is waiting in the finals at OTT.

I don't hate Fix.

57 is a killer next year. Daton medaling would be big for his own Olympic hopes because I don’t think he gets the spot next year otherwise. Much simpler sitting until the 2 of 3.

Fix seems to always get lucky and get pulled back in after a loss. 57 has 7 returning world medalist this year. It’s gonna be hard to medal, but I feel he will again find his way into bronze medal match especially if he draws the top side of the bracket.

Ps I like that guys get to sit in the finals after they medal at worlds, but because olympics is only 6 weights I don’t feel anyone should be allowed to sit at Olympic trials, medaling the previous year at worlds or not.

The last thing I'm worried about is Spencer or Thomas losing to him just because he sat until the best of 3. I want Fix to medal because I want USA to be team champs, this year.

Is it me, or does anyone find it difficult to root for PD3? For some reason I get notified of his tweets and let's just say I'm not impressed by the guy.

I realize he's team USA and all, but just can't do it.

By the way he got that little jump thing from a foreigner forgot who was but it was a long time ago.

Ok I'm going:

Fix: 5th
Graff: DNP
Zain: DNP
Green: Bronze, this weight opened up quite a bit.
Burroughs: Bronze, I don't think he gets by Sidakov.
Dake: Gold, stud at a weak weight.
Downey: DNP
Cox: Gold, stud at a weaker non-oly weight
Snyder: Silver
Gwiz: 5th

This should be enough for second. Should be awesome. Can't wait to watch at midnight-5am...

With the risk of sounding unpatriotic, I'm just going to ask the question:

Do we want Daton Fix to medal?

I want Dayton to win gold, but I also want the finals to go to the Olympics to be Gilman vs. Lee. So I guess I will be rooting for Dayton to win every match but not torn up if he doesn’t.

Help me out here.

How is doing a somersault before matches contributing to "negativity in wrestling"?

Being corny is the problem. Do not root for corny people. It breeds more corny people.

This is very tongue in cheek and I’m not sure why this got so much traction lol
