2021 Recruiting (1 Schollie Available): JBo back. Filip Rebraca, Riley Mulvey & Payton Sandfort have Signed

Regarding his intentions, Fran knows that after Payton he has 1 (maybe 2, depending on Weezy's decision) scholarships left. He made several offers & did several virtual tours with prospects. He just struck out several times.

I just think kids are staying closer to home AND if a kid was able to get in visits to other schools before the pandemic, that school had an advantage over Iowa.

i hope we get lucky with a transfer portal big.
Sorry, I haven't read through all 6 pages, but are there some names out there for potential post players? I understand nobody knows for certain who will be in the transfer portal until it's time, but are there any rumors about guys on course to graduate who might be looking for another year at a school like Iowa?

I’ve been following this thread and am neither disputing nor denying that Fran has had more than a few offers out on guys who we ended up not getting. However, there are years where, when you miss your top targets, you continue to offer players because you have gaps to fill. There are other years where getting your top targets is a luxury and not necessarily essential to fielding a complete team the following year.

Backup big man aside, next year is one the latter years, which is why I said I wouldn’t be surprised if a scholarship was banked, and another used on a grad transfer big man... and if Fran feels like OG can contribute 8-10 minutes per game next year, both are banked

I think Iowa is going to have a very active offseason filling remaining scholarships. Have to assume somebody might transfer, just because that's the way the world works now. So likely going to be 2 schollies to fill. Maybe 3.

I have seen nothing regarding potential post players who might be entering the transfer portal.

what sucks is back in May it looked very good for Iowa with Trey James. Then Dick Pitino offered.

Iona??? Seriously???

Here was that May 2020 info on Trey James:

i wonder how Josh has been progressing....this is a free year so Fran could play him as much as he wants....but Josh never plays......

Have not seen him play much, but have not seen that would indicate he will be ready next year to backup Nunge IMO. Maybe in a couple of years, but obviously hope I am wrong.

Josh is definitely a project. If he ended up a decent backup as a junior/senior I think he’ll be considered a ‘successful’ recruit.

Any under the radar post players who are still undecided? Someone who really blossomed this season?

Just my amateur opinion, he looks like he still has a bit of ‘baby fat.’ Not a knock on him at all; it’s not uncommon.
yeah, hopefully the Strength & Conditioning program along with the free, unlimited healthy food he gets at the facility will end up making huge strides in his development

There is some smoke with this guy.

Jake was in the 2019 class, so he has at least 2 years remaining (3, if he wants to use this year as a free year).

He is 6'9, 228 lbs, out of Lawrence Central High School (Indianapolis)

His 20-21 Stats:
25 games
12.3 ppg
47.3% FG
31.3% from 3
78% FTs
6.3 rebs/game
2.3 assists/game

Jake's a guard.

at 6'9.

umm, i need to see him play. ;)

I've seen him play. In my opinion, he's more of a combo-forward, akin to someone like Jarrod Uthoff. Quite talented, too, a bit of a late bloomer. He had quite a growth spurt (if I'm recalling correctly) in high school where he did start as a guard, but grew like 5-6" over his junior-senior years. Correct me if I'm wrong on that, though.

While not the bona fide big bodied post player I would like Fran to get, if LaRavia wants to come to Iowa City I think we should welcome him with open arms.

Just to follow-up on this a bit, LaRavia has perhaps a bit more body than Uthoff, maybe built somewhat more like Doug McDermott. But, you get the point. He’s not really a guard.

Note above that Greg Doyle, a columnist at the Indy Star, said he was a guard

I guess it doesn't matter in Fran's positionless system

Bummer about LaRavia, but I'm glad he's not going to another Big Ten school.

Wonder if we're in on teammate Tre Williams. He's a bit short for a center, but certainly a wide body.

I always assumed the Holmgren kid would head to Gonzaga, following in the footsteps of his HS teammate Suggs.

Personally, I'm not awed by the kid, seems to be many years away from developing the type of body needed to survive and thrive inside in B10 play.

I saw Mashburn Jr from MN is in the portal. Not that we need a guard at the moment, but the transfer portal sure seems like it could be loaded with talent this offseason.

I agree with you about Holmgren. He could be a top-notch player some day, but man is he a bean pole.

We lose 3 shooters off of this team this offseason. He is going to play next season, Fran needs the shooter.

He’s the number 1 player in the country. I’d take him.

Nah... A lot of people on here are much better at scouting talent than everyone else. Remember all the brilliant folks on this site who correctly called out Zion Williamson as overrated?

Going out on quite a limb there aren't you?

If these clips are not just the best of PS and more typical of his shooting, he could definitely get minutes next year. With time practicing with the Hawkeyes I think he could contribute next season
