2024 Recruiting. Orig Post Updated Oct 2nd. 36 Offers So Far (incl. Chris Tadjo & Cooper Koch). 2 Scholarships Available (NOT counting PMac & Tony)

See tweet below. It looks like its Iowa or Miami for Isaiah Johnson Arigu.

Caden Diggs likely joins Cooper Koch this week based on the 2 crystal balls.

Pharaoh Compton is still visiting at the end of the month.

Isaiah Johnson-Arigu talks Final 5 schools

Iowa: “They have been following me since last fall and the way they place with spacing and everything really compliments my game and passing ability. Fran (McCaffery) has been really close to me and my family because of our ties to D1 [Minnesota, his AAU team].”

Miami: “Last but most intriguing offer. They are very intriguing and the freedom they give their players is very similar to my game. With their recent winning and experience in the tournament, combined with positive and encouraging-minded coaches, it was added.”

Northwestern: “They were first high major offer and contacted me the most in the recruiting process. Up and coming program on the rise and with the coaches winning Big 10 Coach of the Year and assistant, it made it easy for me to put them in.”

Texas Tech: “What stood out was the unique situation they were in with recruiting, regarding my class where I was the only one the new staff had offered. Me training with Kerwin Walton, his trainer and his dad definitely helped our connection.”

Virginia Tech: “They have been following me for awhile and have watched me a lot over the summer. My playing style fits almost exactly with what they like to do and it was an intriguing place.”

This all seems positive for IJA to Iowa it seems to me. The CB removal for Diggs tells me IA informed him that his ride will be given to IJA. Same with the commitment of Williams to WSU. All speculation on my part of course.

Could bode very well for the 2025 big man from the same high school; Totino-Grace. I’m overly jazzed up about it I admit as that is my children’s HS alma mater.

I agree; it looks very good for IJA.

I think you are talking about the 2026 big man from the same high school?

Iowa offered Dothan Ijadimbola (6'5" SF, Totino-Grace HS) on July 7, 2023. Iowa was his first D1 offer. His AAU team for 2023 is D1 Minnesota.

Doth unofficially visited Sep 2, 2023 (Utah State football game).

Yes, that’s who I’m speaking of. I mixed up his graduation year. Not only that, I was thinking he was bigger too but didn't remember that correctly either :)

Anyway, here’s hoping for an IJA commitment this Saturday!!!

Well it looks like Fran was going to take only one wing between Johnson-Arigu, Diggs and Williams. Sounded like Diggs was ready to commit but now reopened his recruitment and Williams is now a Shocker. The tea leaves look favorable for Isaiah's commitment tomorrow. IJA and Koch would be two solid additions to the program.

With three schollies to give, the million dollar question is, will Compton still visit? Does Fran see him as a PF type?

I hope there aren't any surprises at Saturday's announcement by J-A, or Fran will be starting over in a search for another wing, when one and maybe even two were there for the taking. Compton seems like a long shot, so are the coaches just maintaining flexibility for the portal or other possible recruits? It still seems a good possibility that a player will leave the team at the end of the year, which would have provided a portal opening.

This is the same guy who said a few days ago that Fran is waiting for one player to commit so he doesnt have to take a different player.

He doesn't seem to think Iowa is a lock. . .

Technically, right now, we have 3 scholarships available. There's always a lot of moving pieces. If Tony comes back next year, that will take one of the 3 away. PMac has indicated he's done after this season, but what if he changes his mind? That would take another one of the 3 away. If IJA commits on Saturday, that takes away the final scholarship available. If someone leaves early next spring, then Fran can turn to the transfer portal to fill that opening. Hopefully Tony & PMac have made it clear by now to Fran what their plans are for 2024-2025 so that Fran can plan & recruit accordingly.

I think one of two things has to be true:

1. Tony has told the staff he’ll likely be coming back; or
2. The staff plans to put Nimmers on scholarship at some point

Otherwise I think they would have pursued a guard more actively in this recruiting cycle. If Tony doesn’t come back and Nimmers isn’t going on scholarship, the only guards they’d have on scholarship in 24-25 would be Bowen, Dix and Harding.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Tony back for 2024-2025.

Iowa did, however, make some late offers to guards:

(1) Iowa offered 6'5 SG TJ Williams on July 14, 2023. He unofficially visited Feb 25, 2023 and was scheduled to officially visit this month. He decided to stay close to home.

(2) Iowa offered 6'6 SG Jaeden Mustaf on June 19, 2023. He never visited, of course.

He made his college choice today.

(3) Iowa offered 6'7" SG Caden Diggs on May 3, 2023. Caden officially visited on June 14, 2023.

All crystal balls said he was heading to Iowa. He was compared to Devyn Marble, so not sure why Iowa backed off. Caden has reopened his recruitment.

Any word on what time IJ's announcement is tomorrow? All the social media sites only say Saturday.

Whether Tony returns and/or someone transfers out are the wild cards. I am not tuned into recruiting like some of you are, but it sure seemed like we were pursuing Diggs, but then a shinier new object showed interest. I will be very happy if J-A signs, and would have been happy with Diggs. Both seem to be versatile, talented wings.

It could also be that Diggs kind of strung along the Iowa staff, holding off on committing while he waited to see if any other better offers came along. While he was waiting, Iowa found J-A.

Honestly, I would love to be more privy to the types of conversations coaches have with recruits about when and whether they can accept commitments. I do kind of feel bad if a kid like Diggs decided he wanted to be a Hawkeye (maybe even purchased some Hawkeye merch), only to be told the opportunity no longer existed. But like I said, we have no idea what the conversations between coaches and these players sound like.

Caden Diggs announced on Instagram that he will be announcing his commitment on September 15th..

This was on Monday, Sep 4th. At that time, there were 2 crystal balls saying Caden Diggs was heading to Iowa. Diggs was compared to Devyn Marble; things looked good with his recruitment.

What's interesting is that 2 days prior (on Sat. Sep 2), Isaiah Johnson-Arigu officially visited Iowa. So, Diggs said on Sep 4th he was ready to commit, but was that school ready to commit to HIM? Looks like the answer is clearly "no" and that Fran/Iowa had pivoted from Diggs to Isaiah Johnson-Arigu.

Then, two days ago, on Wed. Sep 13th:

* both of the crystal ball predictions of Caden Diggs choosing Iowa were taken down.

* Houston Wilson (Rivals Recruiting Analyst for Pitt) forecasted Isaiah Johnson-Arigu to the Hawkeyes.

* Isaiah Johnson-Arigu said he would announce his college choice on Sat, Sep 16.

* it it was reported that Caden Diggs had reopened his recruitment and was 100% open for other programs to get involved.

As @Max_Rebo and @HoustonREDHawk mentioned in the 2 previous posts, it would be interesting to see what exactly happened over those 12 days (Sep 2-Sep 13). I am speculating, of course, but it looks like Iowa got tired of waiting for Diggs to make a decision and when he finally did, it was too late.

Fran has been burned before, not having enough offers out and we had players get late offers from the likes of Duke and Kentucky, etc. and we were stuck holding the bag.

With one year of Covid elidgability left and the transfer portal, you never know what's going on out there.

It is pretty obvious that Fran knows something though or he wouldn't have told Williams and Diggs that their spot was filled. Dominos fell pretty quickly, Williams to the Shockers and Diggs reopens his recruitment. Well today we will know. Go Hawks!

I suspect this turned into an NIL bidding war that IA couldn’t compete with and IJA couldn’t turn down - despite IJA with the silent commit to Fran earlier this week.

The longer this went today, the more it became apparent.

I hope Diggs isn’t so pissed that we’ve lost out on that too.

Well, fart noise.

As has been stated previously, we’ve all been guessing on what conversations Iowa is having with recruits, specifically Diggs. While the consensus earlier had been that Iowa had more or less withdrawn the offer to Diggs (with a potential commitment from J-A), the reality could be that Iowa simply asked Diggs to hold off on his planned Friday commitment. You would hope that conversation could have happened in a way that kept the door open for Diggs, but his tweet about re-opening his recruitment suggests a door might have closed.

One more thing, Fran quit recruiting fricking Minnesota. Can't think of any player we have gotten from up there.
