2024 Recruiting. Orig Post Updated Oct 2nd. 36 Offers So Far (incl. Chris Tadjo & Cooper Koch). 2 Scholarships Available (NOT counting PMac & Tony)

Wanted to add one more piece. Diggs and Williams would give us three solid pieces to last years class.

Trilly Donavon has placed a prediction of Diggs to Iowa. This account has been very accurate all off-season with transfers and recruits. He's some anonymous burner account with a lot of sources it seems.

Have you seen any outlet projecting Diggs going anywhere else but Iowa? I haven't. Pretty sure he's a Hawk, unless something weird happens....

Agreed. Weird recruitment as I don't think there are any other power conference schools really pushing for him. I wonder if the coaches finally gave him an ultimatum to either hop on board or they are moving on.
Now the question for me becomes if IJA is still a possibility if Diggs does indeed commit. I don't really love the idea of 3 wings in one class (even though they have 3 different skill-sets). I'd much rather they go hard after Williams and Compton to fill out the class.

I think it’s also possible the staff told Diggs they weren’t ready to take his commitment until after they heard something definitive from another prospect or two.

Chane,

Normally agree with you but Diggs was a really early offer. He is a top 100 type player. I doubt Fran put any pressure on him. I really like his game (long, quick off the floor, and a good defender). I would be very excited if we get his commitment.

When it comes to the higher regarded prospects, I just wonder if lack of NIL money is still hamstringing Fran. I was hoping SWARM beer and vodka & more people joining SWARM would help SWARM fund the men's basketball program and help Fran better compete for prospects.

For example: with 4 star, top 100 Pharaoh Compton, I am sure NIL is going to be part of his decision. However, can Iowa/Fran/SWARM outbid LSU, Tennessee, San Diego State and UNLV? I guess we'll see....

Pretty clear that if NIL is the deciding factor we are left out

The orig post has been updated.

Of the 35 offers Fran has extended for the 2024 Class:

* 13 have visited Iowa City.

* 1 has committed (Cooper Koch)
* 17 are still undecided
* 17 have committed elsewhere

Composite ranking is 100. He is long and quick off the floor. Nice midrange shot to go with his three point shooting. Good defender and rebounder. 4 star ranking with On3, 3 star on 247, rivals hasn't ranked him. Nice wing forward.

What kind of player is this guy?

The comp for Diggs is Devyn Marble.

Some excerpts from a recent article:

“My visit to Iowa was really good. They made me feel comfortable, I got to meet the guys and it was really exciting. While on the visit they gave the message that they want a versatile wing and are looking for me to go there.”

Diggs continued:
“They compared me to Devyn Marble and the Murray’s. They see me being able to score and get myself involved in the offense in different ways.”

We used to get excited if we got a visit from a recruit. Now it doesn't appear to have much bearing on his actual signing. Maybe we need to change our approach, although if NIL money is the driving force, it would appear that we are already at a disadvantage.

Good that we will hear something soon on Diggs, probably good news. He seems to have a well-rounded game and is a 2/3. We also have other wings, Pryce Sandfort who is more of a 3 and Josh Dix more of a 2. Add in Cooper Koch, who seems like a 3/4, and that should put us in good shape at wing. Very promising reports about the two freshman bigs, and the two young PGs, so maybe the next recruit becomes best player available at any of those positions, maybe leaning toward a 4/5. Tony could technically be back, but that seems unlikely.

Unfortunately, it appears that in order to land the big fish, we need the NIL money from the SWARM Inc arm, and right now it's all going to football. Brad/SWARM even admitted that they currently can't properly "fund" men's basketball like they need to.

We're lucky to have landed Cooper Koch, imo. Luckily for us he's a legacy.

Looking at Miami's visitor list. It doesn't appear Johnson is a huge priority to them. Speculation on my part of course. Certainly gives Iowa an opening.

So, Fran wants both Diggs and Johnson-Arigo, if they both choose the Hawks? Three wings in the same class might not be ideal, but they seem to have different skill sets, and each would be a great additions. I guess if someone decides to transfer out, we would still have room for a portal addition or a late recruit, assuming Tony and Patrick are gone.

Story on Pharaoh Compton.

NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing Final 5 teams for Top-100 forward Pharaoh Compton

Four-star NCAA Basketball prospect Pharaoh Compton is down to five team options. Which of them will land the class of 2024 power forward?

One of the top NCAA Basketball prospects from out west is Pharaoh Compton, a consensus four-star recruit in the 2024 class. He’s from the Las Vegas area and plays at Arbor View High School. Compton is listed at 6’7 and over 200 pounds and has the ability to play both forward positions at the next level.

He’s a good and active athlete that can rebound and defend at a high level, while also being known for being tough and physical in the frontcourt. That kind of skillset can translate everywhere, even if he’s a little undersized inside. Compton’s recruitment has taken a next step, listing five teams in the mix for his services.

Here’s a look at how he’d fit with each of those options.

Iowa Hawkeyes

The Hawkeyes have the reputation of being one of the best offensive units in NCAA Basketball. But adding a defensive-minded player like Compton would be good to help balance things out, while also giving them more athleticism than normal. The team does have a forward commit in the class already in Cooper Koch but with transfer Ben Krikke leaving after next season, there’s room for both to join.

LSU Tigers

The Tigers are likely losing both Hunter Dean and Damion Collins, two incoming frontcourt transfers, after next season. They do have freshman forward Corey Chest Jr. but will certainly need another forward or two for depth purposes from the 2024 class. The only concern here if you’re Compton is who else will come, as LSU is also after other targets like Robert Miller and Tyler Betsey.

Tennessee Volunteers

With the departures of Olivier Nkamhoua and Julian Phillips and knowing that Josiah-Jordan James will be gone, the four-spot will be open for the future at Tennessee. Freshmen Cade Phillips and JP Estrella could get minutes there but look for the team to try and get a more natural forward. Compton’s style is a natural fit for Coach Barnes and the defensive-minded Vols but there would be a question as to whether he can play the four in the SEC without being able to space the floor.

San Diego State Aztecs

After making it to the national title game, expect San Diego State to become a recruiting power out west, particularly for a guy like Compton. He’d be a good fit in the Mountain West and there would be immediate playing time available next to transfer Jay Pal in the frontcourt. And like with Tennessee, he’d be a nice fit in the successful defensive scheme for the Aztecs.

UNLV Runnin’ Rebels

As the hometown option, UNLV is going to have a good chance here. They recently landed a top-100 talent this offseason in guard Dedan Thomas, who reclassified to play this season. There’s going to be a need for future frontcourt help, as Kalib Boone, Keylan Boone, and Jalen Hill will be gone in 2024. So, from a location and playing time standpoint, there’s plenty that the Rebels have to offer for Compton.

Just some housekeeping.

Iowa offered Jalen Shelley on May 2, 2022.

His final 8 schools were Arkansas, Louisville, Marquette, Houston, Colorado, Ohio State, LSU and Texas A&M.

He never visited Iowa City & has made his college decision.

They list Koch as a PF, Diggs as a SG and Johnson-Arigu as a SF. All three are similar in height and build. With two bigs and a PG last year, Fran must be looking for more wing types to join Sanfort from last year.

Anything on Twitter or Instagram about Isaiah Johnson's visit to Miami?

According to rivals and 247 he has visited Northwestern or VT. Hopefully it's down to Iowa and Miami.
He's taken visits to all 4 of the schools mentioned + Butler and Nebraska. It does sound like he is nearing a decision and these in-homes are kind of the "final pitches" that the coaches will make.

Most recruiting websites aren't accurate then about where he visited. Hopefully he picks Iowa. His highlights are the most complete of the guys Iowa is targeting that hasn't already committed.

Yeah.. most recruiting sites are very bad about updating visits and offers for guys outside of the top 50 or so. I think they rely on their forum beat writers to keep those accurate (so far I have been very impressed by how on top of things Eliiot has been here at updating offers in player's profiles).
A player's social media (if they use it) is usually the most accurate unfortunately.

Tbf, om3 and 247 haven't been that great either.

He's obviously not a Jalen Suggs or Chet Holmgren 5 star type of talent, but is Isiaiah Johnson-Arigu another home grown product that Minny will regret allowing to get away?

Minny has 2 Class of 2024 commitments so far:

Yeah they took their 2 commits and stopped from what I've read. They technically are only graduating 2 players this year if all of their other seniors return for their covid year.

Looks like this is getting interesting. Trilly is implying that Iowa only wants one of IJA or Diggs with IJA being the preference is my read on this.
Well that would imply Fran has to know by Thursday or Diggs goes to Old Dominion. If Diggs and Johnson fall threw. You'd think Williams visit would get pushed up.

Hoops80, has Williams visited any other places officially besides Wichita State. Only see Iowa, Shockers, and Indiana State listed as OV.
