2024 Recruiting. Orig Post Updated Oct 2nd. 36 Offers So Far (incl. Chris Tadjo & Cooper Koch). 2 Scholarships Available (NOT counting PMac & Tony)

Iowa offered 6'7 SG Caden Diggs on May 3, 2023.

Caden officially visited on June 14, 2023.

Caden is from the DMV (Potomac, MD). Tristan Spurlock, Director of Player Development at Iowa, has DMV connections and ties to the area. It's quite apparent those connections helped land this official visit.

Not much reporting on these events as there is with the AAU, but this weekend was a live recruiting weekend for guys playing with their high school teams. Fran was in Maryland yesterday watching Patrick Ngongba (PVI). Caden Diggs' team is also at this event.

Who else is on Caden's list of high major suitors. I know he's added some recently.
247 says Seton Hall and Okie State. But wasn't sure of anymore.

He's taken unofficial visit to VA Tech last fall too, but they haven't offered. I'm sure other schools are recruiting him that haven't offered yet, so this next month of AAU/high school live periods will be important for him if he wanted more offers. My read on the situation is that Seton Hall may be the biggest competition due to proximity to home, but who knows. Diggs was thought to be a mid-major level recruit until this past spring when he rose up the rankings.

Thought I read Xavier & Marquette has offered as well. Probably will get lots of Big East attention.

The old regime there offered him prior to Miller taking over last year. I'm not sure if Miller has offered.
Thxs. Is that an old Marquette offer as well. I haven't really ready anything from his visit but his Instagram

Marquette offered last fall, but not sure how hard they are recruiting him. He's never visited them. It sounds like the visit went very well, but honestly most visits go very well. It'll be interesting to see who else he visits this summer and if any new schools start pursuing after the live periods.

When it comes to suitors and who's interested, I would start with Feb 18 and move forward.

On Feb 18
Diggs stated that Richmond, George Mason, Texas A&M, Old Dominion & USF were reaching out the most. Only Richmond & USF at that time (according to Rivals) had offered.

However, after a strong finish to his high school season in March & as a result of his recent AAU play, offers started rolling in.

Those offers:
April 14: American University
April 23: George Mason
April 25: St Joseph's
May 3: IOWA
May 11: Seton Hall
May 19: Oklahoma State

His Recent Visits:

May 10: George Washington
June 14: IOWA (official visit, where Iowa paid for the trip)

I see at least one other site rank Caden as a 3 star. I would be nice if Rivals finally did their evaluation.

As mentioned previously, Adidas sent their 20 best players to their Adidas Euro Camp (in Italy, June 8-15). Cooper was on the Select Team (top 10 players); see picture below of those 10 players.

Luka Garza (from the DMV) is helping in Caden's recruitment.

Iowa offered 6'10 PF Jackson McAndrew on Nov 1, 2022. He unofficially visited March 5, 2023. Sherman Dillard is the lead recruiter. An Iowa coach watched his AAU game on April 21, 2023. Fran watched his AAU game the next day, on April 22, 2023.

Here's a story from today's Minneapolis Star Tribune:

Wayzata's Jackson McAndrew climbs to the top of Minnesota's boys basketball recruiting rankings

McAndrew's stock continues to soar following his breakout performance in the state championship game and he's taken official visits to Wisconsin and Xavier.

Wayzata’s Jackson McAndrew, left, and Park Center’s CJ Ohara, right, battled for the ball during the Class 4A state tournament at Target Center.

Before his breakout AAU season this year, Wayzata standout Jackson McAndrew saw his name blow up in Minnesota basketball circles. All it took was one memorable performance in the Class 4A state tournament.

Leading the Trojans to a state title in an overtime win over defending champion Park Center, McAndrew went viral with a video of him shaking a defender off the dribble.

The between-the-legs and behind-the-back move was especially smooth for a 6-foot-10 player.

Now the No. 1 prospect in the state for the Class of 2024, McAndrew's perimeter game for his size draws comparisons to former Minnehaha Academy 7-footer Chet Holmgren, who was the No. 2 pick in the NBA Draft by Oklahoma City last year.

"It was a lot of fun," McAndrew said of his highlight play in the state tourney. "Didn't think people were going to go that crazy. But it gave me a lot of respect and showed people what I can do."

McAndrew hasn't stopped showcasing his elite all-around talent, playing right now for Howard Pulley this AAU season.

Blue-blood programs could come sniffing soon for the four-star McAndrew, who recently took official trips to Xavier and Wisconsin. His scholarship offer list also includes Creighton, Notre Dame and Illinois.

"He's the No. 1 player in Minnesota in his class and it's not even close," Prep Hoops analyst Ryan James said. "He's rare. And he's the one guy in the class who [has NBA potential]. He has shooting range. He's got 6-10 size. He's got skills and he's got a body that he's going to continue building."

A year ago, McAndrew was a relatively unknown prospect playing behind all-state big man Carter Bjerke on Wayzata's state runner-up squad. Bjerke moved on to St. Thomas last season, so the Trojans needed McAndrew to fill a much bigger role.

McAndrew played alongside St. Thomas recruit Hayden Tibbits to become one of the state's top tandems. But McAndrew saved his best for the end of the season. He exploded for 28 points against Wisconsin recruits Nolan Winter and Jack Robison to beat Lakeville North in the Class 4A semifinals and followed that with 25 points in the state championship game vs. Park Center, which included 13 of his team's final 14 points.

"I had to make big plays when my team needed it," said McAndrew.

That eye-opening performance at state carried over into the spring. In his Nike AAU circuit debut with Howard Pulley in April and May, McAndrew averaged 17 points, six rebounds and shot a blistering 48% from three-point range.

"My confidence has definitely grown," McAndrew said. "We had a great run through the state tournament and won a state championship. That helped my confidence a lot. I've gone into the spring and early summer playing well. I've been able to show people my game and versatility."

McAndrew's father, Steve, won a state title at Fargo South in 1989 and played college basketball at North Dakota from 1989-94. Jackson grew taller than his 6-7 dad early in high school.

"My dad's been helping me since I was really little," McAndrew said. "It's been mainly basketball since I was around the seventh grade."

The Gophers had McAndrew on their radar since his sophomore year, but they never offered and landed a commitment from Alexandria 2024 big man Grayson Grove. McAndrew said he enjoyed his unofficial visit with the Gophers earlier this year, but he's been hearing more from other Big Ten schools.

Former Jefferson two-sport standout Daniel Freitag, who committed to play basketball at Wisconsin, was the state's No. 1 prospect before deciding to transfer to SoCal Academy in California for his senior year.

Freitag and Robison, both committed to the Badgers in the 2024 class, have been working hard to convince their AAU teammate to join them in Madison. But McAndrew seems to be just scratching the surface of where his game and his recruitment could end up.

"I think he's blown up more than anyone in Minnesota," Freitag said. "How he's been playing has been incredible."

McAndrew's article doesn't mention us at all. Do we really think we're in play for this guy?

The article does state that "he's been hearing more from other Big Ten schools."

Plymouth, MN is a short 25 minute drive to Williams Arena. Ben Johnson, however, has struggled getting commitments from the local, highly ranked prospects.

Wisconsin has been recruiting him for a long time. However, as you will see below, he wants to play for a team that plays with tempo.

This was from late February:

“I have been talking with Xavier and Iowa about going on official visits there in the future,” McAndrew said. “We haven’t set the dates yet.”

Iowa: “Overall, they have a great basketball program and a great coaching staff. The facilities and campus are nice as well. My relationship with the staff is good, my lead recruiter is Coach (Sherman) Dillard. They like my game a lot, like my elite shooting ability and versatility. They think it fits very well in their style of play. I agree with it and can see myself fitting into their system very well.”

“I don’t really have a timeframe as of now,” McAndrew said. “I’m still pretty open and want to get on some more visits to feel things out. But I will probably commit sometime during the summer.

“I am most looking for a school that has a good team culture where I feel most wanted and comfortable. Also, a coaching staff that I know and trust will be a huge part of it. Players that are there and will be going there will have an impact as well. These visits help give me a feel for this and allow me to go more in-depth with it.

“The play style that I think best fits me is one where I will be put into a position to dribble, pass, and shoot. Also, a team that plays with good tempo and spaces the floor well. Obviously, I would love to play right away, but I also understand that it needs to be earned, so the development piece is very important.”
