Didn't hear it, but this morning on Mully and Haugh they were talking positively about Doyle and his ties to Sean Peyton, and I assumed Bernstine would bring up dad.

He's such an insufferable prick. 670 would be wise to send him into retirement asap and try to find someone more relatable and likeable.
I don't begin to understand what it is about him that doesn't translate when he's tried to get head-coaching jobs, but he's got a solid track record as a position coach.Eric Bienieamy will be the running backās coach. I donāt like how much heās jumped around the last three years, but I like his experience in the NFL, and work with good offenses in KC.

Iāve never heard of any serious discussion from that family about selling. Plenty of chicagoans would be happy to see this however.Probably too soon to bring it up, but does the McCaskey family sell the team in the next 2 years?
No, maybe when her kids start to die. That team feeds a lot of mouths. I've posted this many times, the ownership picture has been a mystery even to people with access to the team and family. How involved was Virginia up to the end? Are the sons all equal partners? Do any grandkids have a voice at the table?Probably too soon to bring it up, but does the McCaskey family sell the team in the next 2 years?

Who actually has shares with a voting right in affairs? My understanding is Virginia pretty much ran things from a distance. Two of her sons have held the chairman position, I believe. There is 20 percent of the team owned by outsiders, but folks associated with the family. Do they want to sell? Those guys are long in the tooth, and have their kids involved.
Whether it works or not, I felt like bringing in Kevin Warren was a signal the family was ready to have a real football person in charge above the GM.
The family has the Bears, and that's it. Part of the problem of the team over the years has been that the family siphons off a lot of money to give a stipend to the heirs. Will they all want to cash out? Who decides? It's fascinating. You can feed a lot of mouths with 6-7 BILLION dollars.
Just look at the turnaround Washington made 1 year removed from Dan Snyder. Hopefully Kevin Warren can right the ship in spite of the McCaskeys, but that seems to be an uphill battle.
CSB that I have mentioned before, Virginia was not an only child. She had a brother, George Jr, who died at age 54. George Sr supposedly intended to leave him the team, but did not stipulate so, and after a battle Virginia wound up with the team when Sr died, and Jr's heirs were not given an equal share of the team. The MIL's boss was a man named Gerson Miller, who was a good friend of George Jr, and was the executor of his estate. The MIL tells stories about Jr's ex, and his widow both storming into the office demanding to speak to Miller because they had been shorted by Jr's untimely death. As I recall they got a cut of the concessions or parking, maybe both as a peace offering.I suspect that Virginia has to be the last of the mohicans ie. the last child of an original founder of the NFL. George passed along some solid genes as well as a good business worth north of 8 billion to his descendants( altho I suspect he would rather have super bowls than a bunch of nepo babies sucking off the teat of his brain-child.)
The timing is interesting as George's little venture will capture hundreds of millions eyeballs this weekend.
Or maybe Virginia could finally rest in peace after bears finally vanquished George's hated rival Packers...I know George approved.
Now go get that ring Caleb!
There have been plenty of whispers. I believe a group of current minority owners will try to buy the majority stake.Iāve never heard of any serious discussion from that family about selling. Plenty of chicagoans would be happy to see this however.
Hard ass, rubs a lot of players, mgmt and other coaches the wrong way, has some skeletons as well. Some guys are just better position coachesand EB is one of them. Glad the bears got him, maybe he can be the guy that helps unlock swift.I don't begin to understand what it is about him that doesn't translate when he's tried to get head-coaching jobs, but he's got a solid track record as a position coach.
Having Williams being able to walk off the field at the need of the season was my goal after the wheels came off. Letās all be thankful he didnāt get Chuck Longād and get something torn or brokenCan't believe Caleb wasn't ROTY. Kidding - Daniels should have been unanimous but some idiot went with Bowers 1st. Honestly I'm not sure Caleb would have been in my top 10 with a lot of great rookies Nix, Maye, Nabers, Thomas, Irvington, Alt, McConnell, Harrison. After 3 years I think Caleb will be at the top of the list with Daniels though.
Iām much more excited about the DT prospects in this draft than I am the OTās. Sign Alaric, draft the best DT?I am beginning to warm to the thought of adding defensive lineman with the first pick. The draft appears to be deep for offensive linemen, and with Walker being let go yesterday it's another hole to fill. The beginning of free agency will tell us a lot. I'd love for Poles to make a serious run at Drew Dalman if he hits the market. I'd rather have a solid veteran center than a FA guard like Smith. Guards seem to be abundant, and good ones will be around for their 2nd and 3rd picks.
Daniels is coming off an ACL and Poles already let him walk once, don't see that one happening. Scherff would be a nice fit. My hunch is they're going to draft best available oline/dline at 10 depending on what they accomplish is free agency.Still think Scherff and Daniels would help the Bears, as would Alaric or Stanley. The former hawks would be an upgrade and cheaper than others. Draft a tackle but get free agent guards.
Best case scenario imo -
Sign Trey Smith from KC and Drew Dahlman from Atlanta.
Draft one of Mike Green, Jalon Walker, Mykel Williams, Walter Nolen at 10 (or trade back slightly)
Go oline and dline again with both 2nds with best available guard and dline.
Draft best available running back in 3rd, ideally Henderson, Judkins or Kaleb Johnson.
Sign a legit wr3, ideally someone with some high end speed.
Sign/draft another safety, can't count on Brisker and Byard is slowing down.
26 years old vs 33... no thanks. Whatever they pay Smith will look like a bargain by the time he's 28/29 and still in his prime.Save the money youād spend on smith and get Scherff
draft a guard or two next year26 years old vs 33... no thanks. Whatever they pay Smith will look like a bargain by the time he's 28/29 and still in his prime.
I think if they go the veteran stop gap route it'll be zeitler from the lions.draft a guard or two next year
Wanted Alaric Jackson or Scherff. Scherff still has skills and grades out very well at guard. Wonāt cost much. With Trey Smith getting tagged by the Chiefs, the FA talk is heating up. It appears like the Falcons will not tag center Drew Dalman, I think he appears as a priority target for the Bears. He's 26, and has been durable. He is not elite, but pairing a veteran center with Williams would make life easier. Adding a veteran there makes it easier to add at least one guard via the draft, too. Much easier to transition with a veteran to assist a rookie guard.
I hear a lot of rumbling that the Bears will target Rams guard Jonah Jackson who lost playing time, but has a connection to Ben Johnson in Detroit, and possibly to Kevin Zeitler from the Lions. He's 36, but showed he can still play. He'd make sense on a 1 year deal.
The FA period starts soon, so the names and rumors will start to fly. How Poles handles the next two weeks will tell us a lot about what he will do in the draft.
There will be a lot of guys like Scherff out there. Guys who will take 1-2 year deals for fair value. Dalman will cost a pretty penny.Wanted Alaric Jackson or Scherff. Scherff still has skills and grades out very well at guard. Wonāt cost much.
I hope he gets Dahlman. Smith not being available allows Poles to spread money around to 3 guys instead of 1-2. Plus DL. He tried but Nate Davis didnāt like football. The Amegadji pick is the one I donāt like. 3rd rounder for an injured guy from Yale. Iām not giving up on him but he clearly wasnāt ready last year. There will be a lot of guys like Scherff out there. Guys who will take 1-2 year deals for fair value. Dalman will cost a pretty penny.
The line is very bad, and it won't get truly fixed in one offseason. So, they will need some stop gap guys like Zeitler or Scherff while they build from within. My fear is the guy in charge of rebuilding the line is the supposed o-line wiz who let it get so bad in the first place.
And, there was enough evidence out there that Davis didn't want to play football anymore. Poles hung onto him for way too long. He was a locker room cancer. He tried but Nate Davis didnāt like football. The Amegadji pick is the one I donāt like. 3rd rounder for an injured guy from Yale.
