i think it is illegal to smoke cubans
I believe they wrestled each other a number of times as HS/youth wrestlers and/or were in the same club. You assume too much...where did I say that I favored one over the other?
I like the 74 version of Brands. At 184 he was too undersized so unless he's put on significant mass I say leave him be and let someone else adjust. He's finally starting to look REALLY good, though still would love to see some more offense. If the gambling punishments got reduced to 1/2 year or whatever length and the guys were able to wrestle would Nelson go 174 or 184? I feel like the team would be better off if he went 184 but he may be undersized to reach the podium.
165 Caliendo, 174 Kennedy, 184 Brands, 197 Assad/Franklin/Galzier or
165 Caliendo/Kennedy, 174 Brands, 184 Assad, 197 Franklin/Glazier
Brother, I hope you're right because his defense looks great. If he could get some solid offense to go with that defense he would be hard to handle.I believe we will see larger margins of victory out of Brands this year (if gambling doesn't make him the season).
He's not recovering from Tommy John surgery and hasn't wrecked his motorcycle, requiring another surgery. Coming back from what he did and placing 5th at the National Tournament is pretty impressive. I think a healthy and confident Nelson will be a lot of fun to watch this season.
What little have you seen that would make you say that? I haven't seen anything that would make one say that other than the results of the 2023 NCAAs where Caliendo's path to AA was slightly easier than Kennedy's IMO. When looking at the regular season they both pretty much won the matches they were supposed to win and didn't have any bad losses. Caliendo beat Griffin and Kennedy beat Amine; Kennedy's worst loss was to a top 10 guy, as was Caliendo's. So I'm asking - being completely straight up - what have you seen that makes Caliendo the guy over Kennedy? I'm picking Kennedy most every time and think he will be the guy at 65.Bumping PK/Brands/Assad up probably isn't ideal for them, but it looks like it's the only scenario where Caliendo or PK won't be odd man out.
The little I've seen...I think Caliendo beats PK at 165.
I don't know. I just haven't seen anything that would suggest a Schreiver victory. Add in the fact that this is Teske's last chance for glory and I see Teske all the way. Would really like to see him battle his way to 7th/8th at NCAAs. Long shot but not impossible...i like this lineup over some of the others mentioned, but still am of the belief that a healthy schriever can give teske a go
If Tony gets back to 270+, I think he can turn him from top. If the Cuban is <250, and doesn't have a 1st period lead, he'll need to take down in 2nd or 3rd.So you think Cass will smoke him?
I would love to see the heavier version of Cass back in the game. He looks great at 245 give or take but the larger version of Cass was amazing entertainment at his opponents' expenses. If Tony gets back to 270+, I think he can turn him from top. If the Cuban is <250, and doesn't have a 1st period lead, he'll need to take down in 2nd or 3rd.
But we're getting WAYYY ahead of things.
Firstly, I think they're pretty even right now. What little have you seen that would make you say that? I haven't seen anything that would make one say that other than the results of the 2023 NCAAs where Caliendo's path to AA was slightly easier than Kennedy's IMO. Thank you my friend. I think that's reasonable.Firstly, I think they're pretty even right now.
But my prediction is based primarily to the fact that Caliendo is coming into a program with better workout partners than what he had previously.
So I believe he has more room to improve and will have a higher ceiling.
That's it.
Schreiver should have more upside if he can stay healthy. Battling for a low AA during a final season might be a great personal goal, but not so much from a team stand point. So a healthy Schreiver losing to a senior with a relatively low ceiling doesn’t bode well for the future, imo.I don't know. I just haven't seen anything that would suggest a Schreiver victory. Add in the fact that this is Teske's last chance for glory and I see Teske all the way. Would really like to see him battle his way to 7th/8th at NCAAs. Long shot but not impossible...
Did the cuban have a big pull to make 97? I don't see him over 230. Cass will not get overpowered by this guy and has the proper defense to stop his attacks. Cass could get the pin with enough time on top.If Tony gets back to 270+, I think he can turn him from top. If the Cuban is <250, and doesn't have a 1st period lead, he'll need to take down in 2nd or 3rd.

I hope he at least won the bet.Looks like Noah placed ONE freakin' bet on the women's basketball team. And the penalty was extreme, to say the least.
Kirk was blasting the NCAA once again yesterday.
ISU had a guy that placed one $25 bet on the ISU-Iowa football game two years ago, picked ISU to win, was the only bet he ever placed on anything, and the NCAA told him he was done forever.Looks like Noah placed ONE freakin' bet on the women's basketball team. And the penalty was extreme, to say the least.

If it looks anything like what’s described in this article I’d be happy knowing it was reviewed, addressed, and resolved. An investigation of the DCI investigation (and full transparency) needs to be done.
Hope you're right!Good news for Iowa football player and STARTER Noah Shannon (has missed 6 games so far of what is expected to be a 13 game season).
Which also means good news for the 6 Iowa wrestlers (who likely won't miss one single meet).
This is Kirk Ferentz, yesterday evening, postgame, after Iowa beat Purdue:
Hope you're right!
Any specific word regarding the wrestlers??? Anyone?
Noah Shannon was cleared to practice and is back on the FB roster. Would have to think that is very good news for the wrestlers with a minor betting history.
Is this the same for wrestlers regarding practice or are they only dealing with Shannon first?

Iowa starting defensive lineman Noah Shannon is still not cleared by the NCAA to play in games.
Kirk said he looks great in practice.
This Saturday will be his 8th missed game out of a season projecting to be 14 games. That's 57% of the season.
He’s projected back after that. That’s 43% of the games in a season where he was supposed to be playing 0%. Pretty good, really.
43% is pretty good? Tell that to Kirk Ferentz & Noah Shannon.
How good is 0%? Is 43% better or no?
FWIW, Kirk seems pretty pleased they are giving Shannon the opportunity.
The NCAA continues to take it's time when it comes to staring defensive lineman Noah Shannon....All over, apparently, ONE bet. Noah has now missed 8 of the 12 regular season games. Hopefully the 6 wrestlers are not put in similar waiting position.
Free Noah Shannon!
I hope there is GOOD news!October 25th is a date to keep your ears open for news from what I understand.
