26 UI student-athletes are being investigated for online gambling, incl in Wrestling, Men’s Basketball, Football, Baseball, Men’s track & field

There are just people who love power. Especially when there is little to no accountability. What's really unfair is how long this is going on. I mean really, how difficult can this be?
The NCAA probably has their hands full with the MI football sign stealing scandal. But yeah, they should have wrapped up this betting thing a while ago but who knew the MI thing was on the horizon?

My fear is that they keep kicking the can down the road causing our wrestlers to miss the entire season just like the FB player will likely do...if they keep kicking it down the road...

I agree reinstatement for Noah Shannon does not seem to be a priority for the NCAA, so I'm not sure why our wrestlers would be a priority to them either.

It's just odd to me that they gave Shannon the go ahead to start practicing with the team again and then just sit on their decision allowing him to play in games.

"Seems like its almost a done deal for Shannon and the wrestlers.. "

I hope you are correct, but nothing surprises me with the NCAA. We should know this afternoon or eve
you cant do that on television splat GIF

Won't know more until Nov 8, which likely would mean all wrestlers involved would miss their first dual of the season, which is scheduled against California Baptist University on Saturday, Nov. 4.

Tom and Nelson Brands prepare for wrestling season amidst potential suspensions

Published: Oct. 26, 2023 at 7:23 PM CDT.

Iowa men’s wrestling head coach Tom Brands opened up media day by acknowledging the sports gambling investigation into his team. Several Hawkeye wrestlers were suspended for all or part of the season for betting on sports, but may be allowed to come back.

Brands said the team will know more on November 8th, which is when the NCAA Division I Council decided to push back their vote on updated sports wagering guidelines. That would mean all wrestlers involved would miss their first dual of the season, which is scheduled against California Baptist University on Saturday, Nov. 4.

Right now, Brands said it is business as usual as they prepare for the season.

“It never changes that you’re wrestling, competing for a national team title, and individually it never changes that you’re competing and wrestling for individual titles. That doesn’t change how these guys operate,” Brands said. “It’s natural to maybe check out in some of these situations, but our guys have been patient, and they’re facing it. They’re facing it like you face adversity,”

Redshirt senior Nelson Brands publicly admitted his involvement. He says the months-long process has been frustrating as he now awaits a final decision.

“It’s been excruciating,” Nelson Brands explained. “That’s all I can really say. You’re dealing with something you don’t really know and you kind of feel like you’re getting hit in the back a little bit. You didn’t effect the integrity of the sport and hopefully things come to light, hopefully things show. Hopefully the NCAA really does have the student-athletes welfare in the back of their mind,” he added.

if the NCAA doesn't punt it again... azzholes.

My sincerest apolgies for the outrage that I have caused you.
I'm sure your intentions were good, but I do take it as an insult that someone from the football/basketball forums think they should let us know there are videos out from wrestling media day.

Fran has been a poster here in cesspool for years.
Extremely occasional with the vast majority of his posts coming from the gambling allegations.
I do believe he is a very good Hawkeye fan, but not a contributor to the wrestling forum.

He’s all over the gambling probe now but has been a solid contributor for years. But that’s just my opinion.
He started as a sh!t poster on off topic. He was going to be banned, but cut a deal with the old mods. He isn’t allowed on OT.

Now he simply posts tweets in a like whore fashion.

Oh, look, it's DINGleberry72 trying to cause problems again.

Your definition of a shit poster is anyone who is a moderate and disagrees with you dumb ass lefties.

And I cut a deal with the old mods? LOL

And I am not allowed to post on the Off Topic board? Wanna bet?

Anything else you want to make up, DINGleberry72?

You simply are a lying whore looking for some cheap attention. Well, congrats, you now have it.

Let's see the list...
I do remember you posting how to be able to watch free wrestling around tournament time.
Not sure that makes you a contributor. Maybe a pirate...

that list has email addresses

lets see your list of what you have contributed to this forum. I am guessing all of your posts are garbage, just like your most recent ones.

I feel I'm a pretty decent contributor to the Iowa Hawkeye wrestling forum and an even better contributor to wrestling in general.
I don't think you are a wrestling fan.
Yeah, I probably didn't need to call you out for posting media day videos.

IIRC (and I probably don’t with 100% accuracy), Fran was a more frequent poster to wrestling board, including the BTN links for meets, until some posters basically ran him off.

Speaking of running people off of the wrestling forum, the last time Bob Nicolls posted on the wrestling forum was on May 13, 2023. Based on his intereactions and posts that day, it looks like some posters ran him off. Pretty sad and pathetic, to put it mildly, for posters on here to go after that guy. I don't blame him one bit for leaving.

If we win a title in the next 5 years it will be because of Bob.
