33% of republicans are MAGA

They are in the process of cutting the head off the snake.
No; they are not

They are looking for another head for the Hydra. They are not rejecting the "MAGA" principles, at all. Desantis is all-in with it. Rejecting that political movement means finding someone who rejects the basis of the movement.

Three pages and I bet very few of those that posted have even checked the article to see how the study defined “MAGA”.

Yes they are haha. Trump is the MAGA movement, you take him out of the Republican movement and they hopefully*** move towards the center and stop entertaining these crazy alt right types. They become the right wing of old which looks like a shitty social conservative movement at the moment.

I really hope you are right.
But what has Kevin McCarthy (as an example) said or done to suggest you are right? What about CPAC and TPUSA and the MAGA ecosystem. This has become bigger than one guy.

Desantis is not remotely a "move towards the center". You know this, but you'll continue to pretend it's the 'new center'

It is not.

I agree but it takes time to kill a populist movement. I think at some point the right will revert back to the norm. I mean we are seeing the rejection of Trump as a candidate after an embarrassing mid term. A lot can change tho by 2024, specifically who comes out of no where for the nomination and what the RNC will be pushing

Yes; when they quit inviting dictators and fascists to CPAC, don't hold it in fascist countries, and denounce those who discredit "woke" laws (going by the GOP's lawyers own definition of woke here), then they'll be shifting away from Trumpism and MAGA.

Anti-woke = fascism and bigotry (again, going by what GOP lawyers asserted "woke" means)

It's not a "populist" movement, when it is directed by ultra-rich people who are exploiting it to keep their own tax liabilities low.

The sooner the rank-and-file GOP voters realize this, the more they will recognize their interests align with moderate Democrats.

What are you talking about Joe haha. I said “hopefully” move towards the center.

I never brought up Ronny D as I am not sure who the poster child will be for the republicans. Weird shit always happens during the primary season and a couple of candidates come out of no where

The MAGA movement is completely a populist movement. Do you not remember 2016 and all the articles and stories on how it is and why it is dangerous?

Fair.

I just wish the “rejection” of Trump and MAGA wasn’t just because he is now seen as a drag at the ballot box. By that standard, had Lake and Oz and Mastriano and Walker won, would the GOP even be considering abandoning Trump? I doubt it.

Also we we could see evidence that they are moving back to the center vs just pushing him aside for less toxic options with the same beliefs.

I submit that the message is now the party message / approach, they just need to word it in a more palatable fashion. This is why I think some large portion are on board and the other 40% just go with the majority. The "I had no option" crew can now step up and admit "this is what I like", they also don't have to be uncomfortable with the presenter.

And I doubt it as well, if they'd had more Ws, he'd be the hero.

You really think that if trump walked away the republican party would go back to normal. DeSantis is the same or worse than trump.

This is not going away too soon. I know because I have a relative who's all in MAGA. For the last 15-20 years she's complained about being screwed over and wanting a revolution. trump validated her thoughts and now those thoughts are stronger and will never go away (until death). As long as republicans keep feeding her a candidate for her to latch on to, she will continue to be a "MAGA" even if trump isn't around. She will never change her mind at this point for the rest of her life. The problem is, there's about 30% of the people just like her (along with the republican politicians).

The birth of MAGA was the Tea Party bullshit when Obama got elected, so that thinking has already morphed once and will again

The game is played so easily. All you have to do is lump everyone in with the most extreme group and give them an unflattering label!

Go team!

Anyone in a political party is a cult member. Political parties are cults.
