Going into the 2019 season, the most hyped OL Iowa had (even above Tristan Wirfs) was Jackson. He battled injuries and by his own admission woefully underperformed. While there was speculation that he might declare for the NFL, he had good advisers who made sure he came back to Iowa for his senior year.
Once again this year, Jackson was the most hyped OL on the team, with consensus pre-season 1st team all-Big 10 honors. The only media talking point more over played and less interesting than Petrus liking Grateful Dead music was Jackson going on a diet.
After 5 games, Jackson is not even one of Iowa's top 2 tackles. Against a weak Penn State team, he gave up back to back sack/QB hurries in a single series, and he was flagged for multiple holding penalties after getting man handled. His run blocking wasn't much better, as he allowed Goodson to get drilled in the backfield RB got drilled in the backfield several times. Pro football focus graded him out as Iowa's the worst OL this week, behind a bunch of underclassmen. In spite of this, the tv announcers tout him as a high NFL draft prospect every week based on pre-season expectations.
So what gives with Jackson? He looks skinny out there. Is he hurt? Is it his footwork? Did he lose strength with the new diet and no Doyle?
