The fact is Kerk should have been handling Cass the whole time based on recruit rank of each and the athletic difference between two.

Probably next to impossible given Kerkvliet's illness.

Not to make excuses but let's keep in mind that Kerk wasn't healthy and couldn't train much, if at all, (i.e., be coached to his fullest potential) during the 20-21 season. Kerk had total of 2 matches (in one day) before the B1G Tournament due to life threatening blood clots and a staph infection.

TRUE Kerk got a bit Carvered and beat soundly in the 21-22 Iowa dual. But he was a brainfart away--in combination with Big Tony's heart--from winning the last SV loss. Nevertheless, training-wise the prior season was a bust.

Carl doesn't get the COY award for a guy finally doing what he should have been doing the whole time and if we recall from day one when Kerk stepped on a mat at PSU it was their consensus he was good to whip Cass and then they met and it didn't happen. Then it became "next time he's going to whip him" and it didn't happen a couple more times. So Kerk finally lived up to expectations, that happening is not some miracle being performed.

As for Cass, when he was big Cass he had something different to use vs the athletic heavies, a contrast in styles so to speak. After his body transformation he lost his "different", his "contrast" and is now trying to win athletic matches with better athletes in Kerk and Parris.

This has to be a troll post, right? I mean, you do realize that recruiting ranking of HS kids is not a scientific equation? The top 10 are all interchangeable. There are way too many variables even from state-to-state to be even somewhat accurate. Compare these wrestlers against their earlier selves, not a ranking number they were given by a random dude when they children.

Kerk wrestles with Cael, Varner and Snyder on the daily. You do the math. Terry was a 126, Tom a 134 Our HWC coach was a 133 and M* was a 157. Telford is the only guy Cass can roll with and Ped State has 3 Olympic Gold Medalists at Kerks weight.

Rankings are imperfect, but they are a pretty good indicator of future success. Guys that are in top decile typically outperform the 2nd decile, which out performs the third, and so on.

Guys that are off the charts successful in HS, are typically ranked #1 or #2 p4p. David Taylor and Logan Steiber were both #1, iirc.

As you can see, the guys ranked #1 or 2 have gone on to win NCAA titles, sometimes multiple, and even World and Olympic medals. Nothing close for the #7 or 8 group.

I can't wait until Kerk is going to wrestle, he's going to kill Cass.

Cass wins: Kerk wasn't 100%, he's never losing to Cass again.
