Another ridiculous decision

Doesn't the state have to come up with a little over $2 million to cover their share of this?

If that's the case it's really not free.

The libs on this board have been celebrating what they call a great economy including low unemployment so using that reasoning why would anyone need help with summer lunches?
According to Iowa’s Governor extraordinaire, Iowa has a $2B dollar budget surplus...so the “$2M” investment in food for poors would seem to be a no brainer...wouldn’t it, Rico?

4 pages in and still so very many have yet to read the article.

But the lefties have their propaganda down well.

We read the article and explanation and it makes no sense. You just keep posting the same thing and ignoring what people tell you because you're Team Dum****

But please keep just posting the same thing over and over and over and over instead of articulating in your own words why you think its good kids go hungry for $2.2 million. Someone so well read as you, should be able to do that instead of just repeating the same thing over and over and over and over without any direction for us feeble minded folks.

Left or right. Red or blue. Democrat or republican. I would like to think that we would all agree that taking food from poor children is evil. I guess I was wrong. I’m getting pretty close to being embarrassed to tell people that I’m from Iowa.
Having lived in Missouri now for nearly 25 years, watching it turn from bellwether state to deep red idiocy, I used to take pride in my Iowa upbringing and Iowa roots; bragging about It's practicality, progressive thinking, incredible education system, and work ethic. These days, when lamenting how foolish Missouri looks, I can only respond that “yeah, I know how you feel; Iowa has turned into MAGAstan, too.”

I don't know how she sleeps at night

“This is an unconscionable decision,” said Iowa Hunger Coalition board chair Luke Elzinga. “Announcing three days before Christmas that we’ve deliberately chosen not to feed hungry kids? The Dickensian parallels write themselves.”

“The idea that low-income Iowans can’t be trusted to make their own choices about what to feed their kids is incredibly insulting,” said Elzinga. “We’ve somehow decided that parents know best when it comes to school curriculum but not what to feed their kids? Starvation is not a legitimate strategy to reduce childhood obesity.”

“An abundance of academic research has made clear the link between food insecurity and obesity in the United States,” said Elzinga. “Gov. Reynolds and Dir. Garcia are either woefully uninformed on this issue, or are using childhood obesity as a distraction from the failures of their administration to address hunger and food insecurity. Their press release praises the fact that enrollment in SNAP is at a 15-year low in Iowa, but when we have food banks and food pantries across the state assisting record-breaking numbers of people, that should be worn as a mark of shame, not a badge of honor.”

To those criticizing this decision, would you be agreeable to the issuance of said EBT cards with strict guidelines to ensure that only a pre-determined selection of healthy foods would be eligible for purchase?

Yes. Like I said earlier, if this was about obesity, Kim would use some of our surplus to provide fresh fruit and vegetables for kids. Two things in short supply at food banks. Two things in season during the summer. But she didn’t do that because this isn’t about obesity. She trusts Iowans to do the right thing except apparently pick food for their children.

And you can spare us with pretending that would be a program you would support. We know you and Kimmie don’t give two shits about poor Iowans or kids.

You sure about that birch?

It's not free.

But I have no issues with this. We've come along way from decades past where free meals were one color punch card, reduced meals were another color punch card and full price payer was another color punch card. It still amzes me that the grown ups in charge were ok with a system that openly identified kids of need in an environment already tough enough for the kids to begin with.

It would be pretty remarkable if we could apply that same logic to other problems and fix them too. What a world!!

The money Iowa would have to kick in is better spent on school vouchers!

You mean like the guidelines before that said no meat, cheese, canned soup or veggies, or even flour?

You guys are propagandists.

Plenty of programs exist to address this issue.

I'm glad they do this. But kids eat around the clock and the meals are only available for an hour and a half each day, not available on weekends, and must be eaten on site. What about the other 23 1/2 hours each day or if kids can't eat there?

You really think $40 EBT cards per month that are likely to be used for junk food is going to improve the system?

Wait, I thought you had no issue with with this program. Liar.
Face it. You guys hate the governor and you'll turn every decision she makes into some sort of evil plot.

You're not good people. It's as simple as that.
I admit I hate the governor but it's because of heartless, hateful decisions like this. She says one thing but does another. I don't need to do anything to her decisions. They scream her priorities loud and clear.

Oh here we go again...

That story about you discussing something with the Governor and later feeling slighted because of her decision...blah, blah, blah...

If only it was that one decision. No, it's the time after time she's screwed over Iowans while claiming otherwise. I know she can do no wrong in your eyes but lots of people don't agree with you.

My guess is she slips into unconsciousness as the wine glass falls out of her hand.

Not enough people to beat her in an election.
