If Mack comes, it will probably be limited, but until freshmen show up and play with the team, who knows. All of the freshmen this year look great coming out of HS. They all will be competing with more experienced players, and Fran seems to generally go with guys he "trusts". Krikke and Mack, if he comes, will probably get at least half of the 80 min at 4/5. The freshmen bigs, Mulvey, and maybe Brauns will compete for the rest of the minutes.

If Fran lands Mack, then there will probably be competition between Brauns, Dembele and Freeman for the backup big spot.
I expect Sandfort to play some 4 too so there might not be a ton of minutes left.
Where do you see Krikke - in both scenarios (we land Mack (looks like you’re thinking 4 spot) and we don’t)?
The 4-5 spot with Krikke, Mack, Brauns, Mulvey, Owen and Dembele shouldn't need Sandfort. Fran will shoehorn him in at the 3 along with Patrick, hopefully Dix and maybe little Sandfort.
The overseas trip will be a good opportunity for Fran to try different lineups and give everyone some time on the court. Hard to believe that Krikke and Mack won't be getting most of the minutes at 4/5. I am not sure which guy will play 4 vs 5, although it could be pretty interchangeable. How the back up roles shake out is anyone's guess, and whether some will get significant minutes (more than 10 min) is hard to say. Anyone who shows that they can guard the post and get defensive boards should get significant minutes. If Mack doesn't come, we will need significantly more minutes from Brauns, Mulvey, or the freshmen, and maybe more of a Sandfort sliding to 4 against smaller teams.

Its more about getting Sandfort on the floor because he's the best shooter.
The problem is if you land Mac at the 4 and Patrick's 25 mpg is set in stone at the 3 where does that leave Sandfort?
I assume Krikke is the 5 if he plays with Mack, if its he and Brauns then he's the 4.
Either way I hope we get Brauns because neither of the other 2 are good defenders.
Yeah there's kind of a logjam at the true "3" position in Patrick, Payton, Pryce and to an extent Dix. Playing a bit smaller and sliding Payton down to the 4 for stretches is probably our best lineup at the current moment. I actually really like the idea of a Bowen, Perkins, Patrick, Payton and Krikke lineup--I think that's a very good starting 5 with Dix coming off the bench as the 6th man.
It'll be interesting to see what Fran's starting lineup would be if we land Mack. I personally think Patrick needs to come off the bench and have Payton slot into the 3 spot and keep Perkins and Bowen starting. What I actually think he'll do though is try Payton at the 2 and Tony at point again, which would be really bad defensively IMO. Lots to tinker with if Mack comes--Mack playing as a small ball 5 when he and Krikke aren't on the court together is very enticing. I like having a big guy who teams have to be honest with on pick n pop situations.

If we land Mack I have the same feeling that hes going to waste the first month of the season doing this.
Perkins and Peyton are no where near a good enough ballhandlers to make that work.
Totally agree Patrick should come off the bench but he's going to play big minutes at the 3 no matter what. Thats just a given and Jack will take over for him the following year.
Potentially good on one end of the court, but maybe worse than ever at the other end. Rebraca, Kris and Connor were MUCH better defenders inside than Krikke, Patrick and Payton. I think Ulis was better than Bowen has shown so far, at least he was tougher. No reason Perkins shouldn't have been a more consistent defender, unless he had an unreported injury.
This cannot happen. There were rumors that Patrick might give up the game. I was pretty sure that wasn't true but he cannot be a starter and get those kinds of minutes
Four SEC teams with very deep NIL pockets. If we get Mack I will be really surprised. He looks to be a good fit, but competition is fierce.
It could be that Mack is not a priority for any of those teams, except SC. I hope that the Mack family sees it that way, because Iowa needs him and he would be a key part of the team next year.
If Patrick doesn't raise his game significantly and still gets big minutes, someone needs to be fired.

South Carolina twitter seems awfully confident to land him. He is visiting there this weekend.
He currently lives in SC and is from NC, for what its worth.
I don’t like our chances either Gunner. My gut says SC - close to home for him, plenty of playing time, and he knows / has a past history with multiple players and at least one coach on the staff.
My sense is he’s a priority for IA, SC, and probably LSU. I don’t think he’s a top priority for AL or AR.
We stand a chance but not a good one is my gut. We’ll see though.
P-Mac played just over 22 minutes per game last year, and Sandfort was just getting his feet wet as #6 in the rotation. I could see Fran moving Peyton into the starting lineup. Fran did mention, at a Swarm meeting, that the 1/2 could be Perkins and Sandfort, but I think that comes with frustration at last seasons' guard scoring. If the guards step up their play, I think Peyton could start at the 3.
We'll just have to see how much the newcomers, and underclassmen come along. If Mack pick's us I think he'd get starter minutes.
Jack is a 4/5 and he has said he may not choose Iowa.
I could see Fran moving Payton to the starting lineup too, as the sg because Patrick will start at the 3 and play 25 mpg.
Jack will come to Iowa and be a starter by no latter than his second season because that's how this deal works.

I’m not hearing a peep on the Mack recruitment. Everyone is playing it close to the vest. Fran must have sold him on a vision to even get him to visit. Iowa sticks out like a sore thumb on that consideration list. I don’t see him coming here but it’s interesting that Iowa is a finalist.
When people say stuff like this I can never tell if they are honestly delusional enough to believe that they have the ability to determine such things based on messages board basketball conversations or if they are just full of shit trying to lash out.
I usually lean twoards the latter.
Exactly, IA is such an outlier that we stand a shot. You still have to believe it will be a Southeast US school that secures his services; most likely SC IMO.

Mack put Iowa in his final list for some reason. Maybe he and his family wanted to consider something different? The Gamecocks would be my bet, but too early to start declaring him gone. I like how Mack has handled his visits, and he seems to be carefully considering his alternatives.
We won’t get him. Our NIL situation has already fallen way behind. We are not in a competitive situation with the way it was set up.
