Brody Grothus

I think this thread is rolling nicely now.

To all you geeked-up Star Wars nerds:

In the interest of keeping this thread going, anyone know who were the oldest and youngest NCAA champs in recent history?

I'm going with Kyle Dake (19 years, 1 month) and Matt Brown (25), respectively.

Dake was several months younger than Pat Smith and Cael Sanderson when he won as a true freshman (all were age 19). There may be other true freshmen champs who weren't four-timers, and one of them may be younger. But it will be a very short list.

As for oldest, surely some champ was older than 25. I chose Brown because he went on a Mormon mission and that chewed up a couple of years, but I would've guessed he was older as a senior. I didn't look up anyone else.

Fun fact: Kyle Dake and Logan Stieber are the same age (24), but Dake's title streak was 2 years earlier than Stieber's.

If you wanna keep a thread going we could all pretend like we know and guess how much scholarship money each recruit got in the 2016 class.

Darryl Burley as the youngest??? Won as true freshman; DOB, however, is proving elusive to find. Fun fact: Five career losses -- all to NCAA champs Lewis and Gibbons.

Not exactly recent history, but how old was Lincoln McIlravy when he won as a true frosh? What about schlatter? Cox?

How old will Kemerer be when they pull his Rshirt and he wins.

McIlravy was 18 yrs, 18 mos.--we have a new winner
Schlatter was 19 yrs, 10 mos.
Cox was 19 yrs, 11 mos.

There are four top-10-ranked 141-pounders at Midlands--#2 Jack, #3 Mecate, #4 Ashnault, #10 Racciato. If Grothus made the finals and won, he'd be #2 behind Heil. If he made the finals and lost he'd still likely be ranked top 5.

Personally I'd prefer him not to face any of those top guys yet, as he tends to fare better the first time he wrestles someone. Not sure why. Thoughts?

When are you folks going to learn to give post-war Cornell College (the REAL Cornell) their props? Lowell Lange was the youngest. I believe Dick Hauser (also from Cornell) was a month or two older than Lincoln and I think the kid from Oklahoma (whose name is lost in a senioritis fog at the moment) was in their somewhere.

Come to the Matman Invitational at Cornell on January 16 and I will give you show you the whole story. I'll be in "Hall of Fame Corner" raising money for the Wrestling for Life Division III Championship ticket effort.

That tends be the case with all big move wrestlers after the 1st time a guy usually will watch out for those situations But regardless these types of wrestlers are still never out of any match

In case you were wondering, Burley was 19 years 1 month when he won the 134 class in 1979. Don't give a sh$t? I don't blame you. But it was bugging me. The wonders of the Internet. Carry on.

I assume that the infamous 13 page prior Brody thread zigged and zagged though many topics....but can anyone provide a summary of the primary points covered in that one? I'm too lazy to look back for myself.

Really? You want a brief history of a 13 page thread? Everything from certifying to someone seen him eating a buffet at "taste of China", leaving the hospital to walking around weight of 155-180. I am sure I am forgetting about 11 pages.

Don't remember for sure but I think some it was about who was going to win the 149 spot. Brody or Brandon or Cooper. Midlands was going to give a good answer. Same as this year only with different names and different weight (141).

Brody 141 Midlans Champ!
Brody 141 NCAA Finals!
He has it and will do it! So glad he's going to be healthy, and Hungry!! He won't be denied!
Go Hawks!

Hey, just to kill another bit of space on this thread, I see that after a mere 1,020 posts I have garnered an impressive 10 "likes." That's good, right?

Wait...What???

You can "like" your own posts?

Cool Gotta get busy...........

OBTW....Jaysdad7 has more "likes" than posts........just saying.

Well, the second rule of the Brody Grothus thread is that "We don't summarize the thread until page 7" but since you asked about the previous thread I recall 1) "My walking around weight is...", 2) projections on his finish, 3) emojis/lots of emojis, 4) there was at least two/three flame wars, 5) somebody asked why he didn't wrestle against Maryland in the faux pbp, which is silly b/c that was before his cut, 6) stories about the King of Cutters, and 7) the eternal question: What is difference between Fredericksburg and Frederika?
