Caitlin Clark goes woke

....and this is the problem, right here. Our complete lack of respect for one another in modern discourse. Left wingers are not lunatics. Right wingers are not lunatics. We are all (for the most part) thoughtful, intelligent people who are looking at very clear problems and disagreeing on the cause.
I want to belive you are right.

No. The point is that her whiteness won her nothing. You can’t seem to see that.
That’s not related to what I said. Not about what she’s “won”. I’m talking about the level of her celebrity/fandom based on her race. Which does play a factor in it. One has to be either ignorant or intentionally obtuse to not see that.

It will be interesting to see what happens to the "W" next season as far as the attendance and the viewership. I think a very large part of the success this year was it went from the NCAA season, to the tournament and then the WNBA season. It was constant coverage of CC, all of her perceived rivals, etc. Now we have a rather long break with just the NCAA and while JuJu and Paige are certainly talented, it simply isn't the same coverage/interest as last year, despite all the medias attempts to wish it in to being so.
We as a society are very much "out of sight, out of mind" so I'll be curious it things remain as they were, or start falling off.
Good point. My guess is that the level of interest/support in the WNBA may have peaked. However, that is a good “peak” to be at. It’s nice to see the WNBA expanding into some new markets.

Yeah I'm sure she's all broken up about it too, lol.

She's still the most popular female athlete on the planet, but congrats on your microprotest.
Let’s not pretend that he’s the only “fan” who somewhat soured on Clark based on her apparent left leaning political stance. However, I’m sure her level of popularity will be able to withstand that. 😉

There isn’t a single soundbite anywhere that was caught of anything racist. It was entirely made up, and you used it to broadstroke an entire state as racist. It was very poor form and extremely disrespectful for someone talking about “respecting each other
I have conceded this in the past and will do so again now. It was poor form.

Looking forward to subjecting the board to this conversation for the tenth time the next time you bring it up.

You’re looking in different spots than me. When I say lunatic that is exactly what I mean, Joy Reid, Rachel Maddow, The View, Most of the news anchors on all the regular suspect news channels, The Squad, etc, etc….the way these people rationalize is embarrassing. If that isnt you super, but if you are get in where you fit in.

As an example, who isn’t, Bernie Sanders is a solid dude, most all moderate Democrats are solid human beings.

And it’s worth saying I don’t like hearing people running around talking about how awesome Trump is, I think he’s a loudmouth egomaniac but when I say I don’t like these “other people” I am dead serious. They are some of the most insane people I’ve ever seen talk out loud and many of them have soap boxes. And they give no respect, period…

And as the English used to say, they’ll receive no quarter.

And as a rule, I’m a lover of people, but if you’re a big enough nut job your running around telling people democracy is going to end and “my way of life” is threatened. You get what you give.

The real question here is why does anyone on this board pay attention to or care what happens in the WNBA LOL?
Trash league, trash product. Ill hang up and wait for when CC comes back to coach in some capacity at Iowa.
Agree somewhat, but Clark (along with several other young players) have elevated the WNBA’s overall style of play/product.

What I noticed immediately from watching quite a few WNBA games this past season was the rather poor level of officiating compared to the men’s game. Hopefully, that gets shored up, which will make that league even more watchable.

I mean, I was right. The speculation was what Dijonai Carrington might have heard in the Fever crowd that made her upset. I said it was probably racist language and pointed out that Indiana has a strong history of racism. You can keep playing this card, but nothing I said was untrue.

Hmmmm….I did not know this. You may actually be in the list. I’ve always found it Interesting how judgmental, how hypocritical and how biased those who finger point are …

You certainly jumped on the train on my last engagement with race folly. If that is your regular mantra, you’re actually part of the problem, not the solution.

You want to not be called a nut job, don’t jump to immediate conclusions that people are racist. How can an intelligent person not comprehend that?

Hey, don’t call me a lunatic, by the way you’re a racist. I mean the logic gap is bigger than the Grand Canyon.

I do not understand why people being more interested in a star athlete because they share the same race is a problem. That said, I don't know that I would be remotely as interested in Caitlin if she had played for a different school even though she attracted a lot of fans that are not Hawkeye fans. I think if she were black and done the same things for Iowa, I would be just as excited about her. Some people keep throwing around the great white hope label and that simply has nothing to do with my interest in Caitlin.
Exactly, I know several Iowa State fans that don’t like Clark…mainly because she’s a Hawkeye. 😜

I think a lot of former and current WNBA players honestly believe they’re as good as Caitlin and in their minds, the easiest explanation for why they don’t get the attention she does is racism. As more people recognize her as a generational talent, and more players realize she’s simply on another level, the racial narrative will fade and everyone will be able to appreciate her as a superbly talented basketball player
Good point.

I have met you halfway many, many times and you know this. I have rarely been extended the same courtesy from you.

That's insane. Angel Reese is clearly the second most popular player in the league and Wilson is a 3X league MVP and hands down best player in the league. They could've spoke out on the hate Caitlin recieves.
Also I'm not interested in being lectured on privilege. I grew up dirt poor and had nothing as a kid. This is why the left will never perform better in rural areas.
I can relate to your last two sentences, as I grew up in a relatively poor family. I think that’s what fueled my drive to attain the American dream. 😉

Whoa….100% untrue. In fact, if you’ve ever noticed anything about me if I find myself in a scenario where a guy I strongly disagree with says he is sorry or his approach was poor &/or starts being pleasant or respectful. I immediately cave and go the other direction. In fact, there have been many times where I decided I was over the top and went the other direction 1st myself and if you can’t concede that then you’re correct we probably shouldn’t talk.

Now that the pissing back and forth has slowed down a bit, I'll ask.

What exactly does "elevate black women" mean?

I'll be sure to wear protection if we speak in the future. Lolol..I also grew up with very little as well, and had to work hard, (many times two jobs) to be in a position to retire soon fairly comfortably. I'd agree I have no issue that when following teams and players during a season I have no interest in all this back and forth, race baiting, or opinion pieces. This should not be about that. This is a young woman named Time magazines athlete of the year. This is for being the most impactful athlete in the WORLD over the last year. A good part of this has ZERO to do with her play ON the court. It goes well beyond her logo three's or assists. Its about her changing the perception of her sport, for both older folks and the next generation. Little girls AND boys, white, and people of color wearing her jerseys, and wanting to be like her. Is it not possible that this remarkably aware young woman was reaching out an olive branch for everyone to consider setting aside these differences, and just enjoy the moment? I just don't see why people would hold this against her. Given the magnitude and gravity of why she won this, would you really expect her to "just shut her mouth" as several posters have stated?

Well no offense but you can’t say you’re a lover of people but then call far left wing people lunatics and Trump supporters lunatics. Thats about 40-50% of the people.

You’re just trying to get me to be nice😊 it might work🥳 as you know, I can get a little haughty. Merry Christmas.!!

I think it’s fair for me to add there’s been a lot of bad things happen to Black people in the world so it’s probably OK. People are over the top some times and you certainly don’t appear to be a lost cause.😂

No chance….maybe 25% tops. I know a lot of people who voted for Donald Trump in fact much of my clientele and the biggest share of my friends and family, not all. I actually have some pretty liberal children, might even be “left-wing nut jobs“ but I love them all the same.🥰 but I digress.

Point being very few people like Donald Trump. They voted for him because of the “lunatic“ other side, and he has proven capable of doing a decent job.

However your point was well taken. I should reconsider my verbiage.

Man, I'm just trying to get all of us to be nice. I am an opinionated dude, as you know. But my strongest opinion is that we should listen to and be respectful of one another. Am I perfect? Hell no. Will I keep trying? Hell yes.

Her message could be interpreted that the black WNBA players need the assistance of a white to get their just desserts.

That doesn't read well either. She was doing so well to avoid getting pulled into it all.

Again, continued talk about differences in appearance and origination will only continue to perpetuate racial divide.

Avoid the labels and divisiveness, we're all people. We can't change the past. Just do the right thing going forward.
Interesting, I can see your perspective. I didn't read her comment that way. Remember, she was talking in context of the interviewer asking about "racial underpinnings". When she said "we", I think she was talking about the whole WNBA body politic, working together to raise the profile of everyone in the league. For 26 years, this league toiled in anonymity, with no one, white or black, capable of raising the profile of any individual or the league, so they just bumped along, some probably resigned to being unknown, and others pissed that they weren't better known, but overall, unable to do anything about it on any scale. Caitlin comes along, and in an instant, changed everything. The league and the players were coming to grips with what it means to be in the spotlight. Not surprisingly, they've made some missteps, but the whole while Caitlin has held course. Next year will be a critical year to see how the league adapts to and builds on their newfound fame. I see her comment as the league doing the right thing for everyone. And if she can be a catalyst or accelerator for that, that's a good thing.

I haven't watched her since she gave Swift a thumbs up about supporting Harris. She's a talent but it doesn't mean I have to spend my $$ supporting her. You reap what you sow.

They should all just shut up and dribble

except Bosa.

And all the guys doing the “jerking off two dudes at the same time“ dance.

Essentially, anyone who doesn’t align with me shouldn’t be allowed to give their opinion.

They'll never give you a definitive answer. But it more or less means to worship them. They are celebrated by the W, and supported by the media, coaches, and players. The issue is, that most of them provided a terrible product, which is why W arenas were empty and the ratings were non-existent. People weren't saying "oh, black women are playing, can't be watching that". It's the overall product of the W, from the black to the white players, was on the whole, terrible. So no one tuned in.

Those psycho leftists and W players would never admit it, but people have already started catching on that players like Wilson, Arike, Jewel, Kelsey Mitchell, and Callier are all good and fun to watch as well.

But Caitlin plays like a guy would, which is why America was so captivated by her. She's different in every way, and that's why people support her, not because they're happy a white player is succeeding.

"Clark is cognizant of the racial underpinnings of her stardom. “I want to say I’ve earned every single thing, but as a white person, there is privilege,” says Clark. “A lot of those players in the league that have been really good have been Black players. This league has kind of been built on them. The more we can appreciate that, highlight that, talk about that, and then continue to have brands and companies invest in those players that have made this league incredible, I think it’s very important. I have to continue to try to change that. The more we can elevate Black women, that’s going to be a beautiful thing.”

So disappointed she bent the knee to the woke mob and a league that hates everything about her after being apolitical up to this point.
You're a joke

Sad to see that she finally bent the knee. But strange that it's coming now after all this time. Almost feels as though her agent/the WNBA told her to say this. Basketball is a black majority sport, white players are seen as objectively worse on every level, there is no white privledge in basketball. Black players are worshipped, most white players are the butt of jokes.

The WNBA is an objectively worse product than the NBA, we have the financials and TV ratings to prove it. People aren't rejecting these players because they're black, they just don't care about them because they provided a poor product. Are there good players in the W? Yes, and Caitlin was the way they could show the world that the W is better than we thought. This is because CC's game is unlike anything we've seen from a woman before.

However, CC has only exposed the blatant racism and hatred in the W. CC joining the W should have been a celebration for all players, but we all saw how that turned out.

I just hope she knows that no matter what she says, they'll never care about her. To them, she's a tool, a mouthpiece for their agenda. Once she's proved her usefulness, they'll toss her aside. But maybe this will finally take the heat off her from psycho players who are ready to either gouge her eyes out or tackle her to the floor?
I recommend deleting your account.
