Will we get two more years of her at Iowa? My gut says yes.Update on # games needed to break the record:
Year: Points Scored
2021: 799 (30 games).................26.6 ppg
2022: 863 (32 games)..................27.0 ppg
2023: 984 (36 games so far)......27.3 ppg
........................................................
2,646 Total Points so far.............27.0 ppg Career Ave (98 Games)
3,527 NCAA Record
........................................................
882 Points needed to Break the record
Looks like she needs 33 games to do it (27 ppg x 33 games = 891)
For GOAT Reference:
2,804 Career Points, MEGAN GUSTAFSON (#25 in NCAA History)
...........20.8 ppg, 2015-2019, 135 GP
I agree, I think CC will take her optional fifth year at Iowa and establish some NCAA records that will stand perhaps in perpetuity. Will we get two more years of her at Iowa? My gut says yes.
1. She can make as much money in NIL
2. She is having fun and is close to the team and coach.

It will be interesting to see what happens after next year. Do you think she'll have enough talented returning teammates after next season where she'll want to make another go of it?

I think given she can cash in at Iowa, loves to play collegiate BBall, and can favorably impact the sport more at Iowa/college. Do not underestimate the lack of appeal of the NWBA, her appreciation of the sellout crowds, and better TV coverage than NWBA.
IMO, I think she stays two more years unless there is some type of uncontrollable event.
All true but the collegiate game is a place that the WNBA cannot replicate in my opinion. WNBA is business and college is about friendships, last time to be a carefree young adult, parents/siblings close, etc. Guess we will find out at some point in 2024.I hope she stays 5 years. What's nice for her is she doesn't have to decide for another year.
To play devil's advocate:
* She's reached her goal of making a Final 4.
* She likely will become the NCAA's all time leading scorer by the end of next season
* What if she is not too hopeful about the Iowa roster for 2024-2025 and decides it's time for a new challenge?
* She said recently that she would not necessarily be taking a pay cut if she moved on to the WNBA
* She likes challenges and I am guessing transforming the WNBA is one of them
I find that highly unlikely. Some have reported that her NIL endorsement deals were already at $1.0 M+ and that was before the Nike apparel deal was made. Her marketability continues to increase and I don't see it slowing down anytime soon. She would definitely be taking an overall pay cut in the WNBA (despite a salary for actually playing) as her marketing deals will fall off quite a bit. No one tracks with the WNBA, but women's college basketball interest is on a steep increase. Every young girl in the US who plays basketball knows who Caitlin is and that she's the current face of women's college basketball. She should milk that until the cow runs dry.I hope she stays 5 years. What's nice for her is she doesn't have to decide for another year.

About that asterisk: Clark scored 1847 her sophomore and junior years (plus a few in the Final Four). Add a fairly conservative 1800 in two more years, and she ends up scoring 3647 in four consecutive years, topping the 3,527 NCAA Record. No asterisk needed.Would she want an asterisk by her scoring mark because of Covid?
Maybe it doesn't matter.
If she stays healthy, she obviously could break the mark in four, but without the inside threat of Monica, I think she'll be even more heavily guarded next season.

Exactly. There are people watching womens basketball just to see her play. I imagine many will continue to watch her in the WNBA. Whoever drafts her is likely to get a major bump in ticket sales. You think that Caitlin would definitely be taking a pay cut by heading to the WNBA. However, when asked if she would be taking a pay cut by heading to the WNBA, Caitlin said, and I quote, "not necessarily."
You also said that "marketing deals will fall off quite a bit" when she heads to the WNBA. How do you know that? Have you talked to Hy-Vee, Nike, H&R Block, etc, to see if they'd drop her? Of course not. But you know who probably has? Caitlin & her family.
It's not for sure though, but she's talented and marketable enough to possibly eclipse $1 M+ of NIL money a year. There's only a handful of WNBA stars that have endorsements in excess of $1 M a year, which is why so many of them play overseas and in the WNBA. No guarantee that Caitlin's current endorsements would continue or stay at the same level of compensation either. You think that Caitlin would definitely be taking a pay cut by heading to the WNBA. No reason to repeat yourself, I read your post the first time.Again, Caitlin and her family know way more than any of us. And when asked if she'd be taking a pay cut by heading to the WNBA her reply was "not necessarily."

She appeared close with Hannah. Overall, I agree that is the key.It will be interesting to see what happens after next year. Do you think she'll have enough talented returning teammates after next season where she'll want to make another go of it? Or will she be ready to move on to the next challenge? Only she knows for sure....and she probably doesn't have an answer yet.
Also, can you help me determine how many games Iowa is expected to play next year in the regular season? Then I would conservatively add on 2 games for the B1G tourney and 3 games for the NCAA tourney. It's going to be really close on her breaking the record next season.
EDIT: This season we played 29 reg season games, 3 B1G tourney games, and 4 NCAA tourney games to get to our current 30-6 record.
Completely disagree. I don't know if she comes back for year 5, but I do know after watching countless interviews and video clips is that she loves the experience, environment, and playing with her friends. I genuinely believe she comes back because she wants to see it through, all the huge crowds at Carver , cementing her legacy as a GOAT etc.....I think Clark is gone after four years. She wants to be the best of the best, and play the best of the best. Staying in college isn't her MO.
Why limit herself to NCAA records? Soon she will be targeting WNBA records, and beyond.
I think it will depend on whether she thinks there's a realistic chance at a national championship or not. I could see her staying if there as a solid chance to play for the title.I think Clark is gone after four years. She wants to be the best of the best, and play the best of the best. If they have no chance, I could see her going pro.
She set the big ten record for 3’s in a season too, on that last three.
