Championship Finals Thread

It will doom the sport.
Man it is long past done. Espn push push push will last til the contract runs out . Only reason they show it is cause CBS has the basketball contract. When do you hear any, i mean any wrestling news on Espn other than these last few days.
National duals is crap, dual season is about protecting seeds. The outdoor event rocked, but not likely to happen any time soon because it worked to well.

So was 0 for 3 in finals the outcome most expected?

Seems like Iowa has been lacking in offense for much of the tournament.

This describes most of our wrestlers, unfortunately... and PSU guys not named Zain, Bo, Nolf. Clark didn't take a shot.

I have no problem with what Mega did in the third. He should have gotten dinged at least one more time. He, Sorensen or anybody else are not wrestling to entertain, they are wrestling to win.

Clark wrestled my game plan and stayed close and could have tied. These guys just don't have that "I am going to die shooting" mentality.

You know you got mad at me the other day but I pretty much agree with you on everything you say about Iowa wrestling. We see things the same way ironically. My question is how do we fix it because we are clearly behind right now? We have tough kids, kids with heart, but how do we get back on top of the mountain? My thing is we need someone to develop more variety and diversity in our attacks, and someone who is better at teaching angles. That's why I love Metcalf. He was an offensive hammer at Iowa and has continued it obviously. I think he could bring a TON to the room. But we need someone who can do a better job of developing the upper weights. I read the recruiting is down. That might very well be. So in the absence of getting better recruits, we better be well coached and develop what we have. The only thing I was saying the other day, and maybe my timing could have been better, but this simply just didn't look like the Iowa wrestling I grew up watching and have known for 35+ years. I just hope we can get it back.
It's impossible to fault the heart and effort off Gilman and Clark and hopefully next year they get their just rewards.

with few exceptions, iowa has been lacking in offense for much of the past 10+ years. as a fan, it's disheartening, not to mention boring.

Definitely not the finish we were looking for, but very impressed that three of them made it to the finals. Didn't think any of the three would win, but proud of them for getting there!

i thought gilman would win. i thought clark and especially sorenson might show a little more fight.

Some of you people need to relax with the stalling bitching. Our guy didn't get any takedowns nor threatened to after Gilmans first period.

That's wrestling now get your take downs stall win. Iowa is always playing behind. Either refs need to call stalling late and penalize the guy or Iowa wrestlers need to attack earlier and be the ones ahead.

At some point though, you just need to flat out give credit to the other guys. Garrett was extremely impressive all year. Zain is on another planet, just like Metcalf was. But Sorensen is still clearly the 2nd best 149 pounder in the nation. Gilman is incredible, just unfortunately didn't get the job done against another 3x finalist.

Time to evaluate who is coaching offense. To be clear, I'm not calling for brands to be canned. But the methods have gone stale and whomever is responsible for the offense or lack there of needs to be let go.

Iowa opponents takedown count 9: Iowa 0; and yes, each of Iowa's opponents stalled throughout the match.

If you're being out-recruited and your wrestlers are being out-developed, the answer seems obvious to a handful of us. But, for now, it's not a popular opinion.

If things don't change in the next couple of years the rumblings might start.
