I'd wager that Moore put everything on hold due to the family illness and Iowa decided that Bohannon was too good to wait on Moore for, especially when it was no guarantee Moore would choose Iowa. That said, I have 0 insider info.
To the bolded parts, a recruit can't take an official visit until the first day of his high school commences. I'm guessing Illinois starts the first week in Sept. That month is when his father had a stroke.Just to put things in a timeline.
1) Moore visited both Iowa and Illinois on unofficials in June. Rumors were it was between those two schools.
2) Moore had a six team "list" after that, a list that included Iowa, Illinois, Pitt, Memphis, Cal and I don't remember who else. That was early July. Officials not yet set up.
3) During July he had some very good evaluations. Rumor was North Carolina was interested.
4) By the end of July, still no officials. Folks thought he was waiting on an NC offer. Iowa and others were offering other point guards.
5) Iowa, in fact, was looking at Bohannon and talk was we were close to offering.
6) Moore announces five Official visits, may take sixth. We are on the maybe list for the sixth. Early August.
7) Screw it? We offer Bohannon and he accepts. (August)
8) I don't believe any visits took place in September as his Dad had a stroke, reportedly.
9) Many schools moved on, including Illinois, Pitt, one other. Leaving only Memphis and Cal from his original six. (Late September)
10) Early October and Moore has visited Memphis, I think.
11) I'm confused about the Cal thing...if he has visited or plans to visit...I thought they'd received a commit from a point guard anyway.
12) Moore continues to find new schools, including Iowa State, that he is interested in.
Now. As to what took place with Iowa. Good information on the premium board, which I won't talk about here, and no, it isn't anything like a Warren Commission investigation...just common sense stuff. But suffice to say it makes sense. Iowa took a good, quality, capable, interested point guard from Marion in favor of dealing with what was becoming a convoluted mess. Right/wrong, it sure looks like other schools chose the same path.
If you don't think it is telling that Memphis and Cal (with their recently hired assistant from Louisville, who was there for four years...and what are we finding out about Louisville?), if you don't think that's telling it's my opinion you don't follow college basketball. I'm serious.
I hope Moore lands on a team for the right reasons and ends up having a quality life. And I have not intended to poop down a chute aimed at Iowa State. But I will say, again, that if I were a State fan I'd be very concerned that if Moore commits it be on the up and up because the whole thing looks like crud. That's not a good way for a new coach to start his job with questionable APPEARANCES.

I had a coach tell me once that you don't want to lose your 2nd choice as a recruit by waiting too long on your first. Maybe schools couldn't afford to wait or maybe there is something shady going on,either way it's still speculation.
It is sour grapes to explain the situation by citing rumors of nefarious activities. I did not follow the talk on Ulis closely, but from what I read, it was not sour grapes.Someone doesn't understand the term sour grapes. Losing Ulis to Kentucky lead to some sour grapes. When a program is no longer interested in a kid because his handlers have made certain requests that raise serious ethics questions if not worse, it's not sour grapes. It's a realization that a decision was made for the long-term health of a program. It's not the kid's fault that he may have adults involved in his life that have caused issues. It's just an unfortunate reality in the world of basketball recruiting. I'm glad Iowa has chosen not to go down that path even thought I would have loved to see this young guy in Iowa City.

The key element for sour grapes is to claim you didn't want the other result, anyway. In this case, it is because of the alleged shady activities.
In the fable, the fox keeps jumping up trying to get the grapes but cannot reach them. So he walks off, saying they probably were sour, anyway.
I can tell about the dog in the manger, too, if anybody is interested.
Probably exactly what it is here.Lone, forget about the potential recent ISU interest. You're in a kid's top 2 for months. All of a sudden he announces 5 visits, you're not on the list, and word comes out from recruiting analysts that the coaching staff has backed off / moved on.
Explain to me what the reaction would be on a Cyclone message board.
Probably exactly what it is here.
And if that situation occurred, and the kid showed up scheduling a visit to Iowa, what do you think the reaction would be here?
Yes, I am saying message boards are strikingly similar from one school to another. So you're saying message boards are gonna message board. I would agree with that, but you're on an Iowa board and not Cyfan and I'm pretty sure those "sour grapes" started long before there was any announced interest in ISU if you go back and read the thread.

As for the timing of "sour grapes," you may be right. I was commenting on the phrase, not the underlying subject. I don't follow recruiting very closely. Was ISU not involved until after Iowa backed off -- if indeed that's what happened?
ISU was not involved until Iowa was out of the picture as far as I'm aware. Whether or not Iowa backed off or Moore backed off is the question but it really doesn't matter anymore. I don't think Iowa wanted to play the waiting game anymore
I obviously don't know what happened in this case or any other. I know it's extremely common for fans of a school to say they backed off a player when he decided to go elsewhere, and it's extremely common for a recruit to claim a formal offer from a school that didn't make one. It's also common for one of the two parties to discontinue the courtship when it becomes clear it isn't likely to go anywhere.as reported ...Iowa moved on..it was Iowa's decision to move on (I'll stop there) ...and you are correct it doesn't matter anymore.
I don't know if ISU was involved with Moore prior to Iowa ... I would think your coaching staff were & are aware of him...but it doesn't seem Moore made mention of ISU prior to the recent indication of possibly taking an official (which his officials have changed more than once)...

Not really sure it makes a lot of difference.

I see that Iowan555 is no longer on the Board. How do you have so much influence hawkeye bob, on the moderator, that you determine who gets tossed??? Who is running this board, you? I found nothing offensive about Iowan555 posts, maybe irritating, but nothing that should have resulted in a ban.I agree Relish .....im sick of this guy ... he really needs to be tossed.

Iowa fans ... Here's the reality. What elite player wouldn't drop Iowa at the mere mention of Iowa State? The blue bloods are hard to beat in these situations. Duke, Kentucky, Iowa State, Kansas... Tough for Iowa to compete.
This is sarcasm right?Iowa fans ... Here's the reality. What elite player wouldn't drop Iowa at the mere mention of Iowa State? The blue bloods are hard to beat in these situations. Duke, Kentucky, Iowa State, Kansas... Tough for Iowa to compete.
thanks for the laughIowa fans ... Here's the reality. What elite player wouldn't drop Iowa at the mere mention of Iowa State? The blue bloods are hard to beat in these situations. Duke, Kentucky, Iowa State, Kansas... Tough for Iowa to compete.
Hate to break it to you but ISU is not an elite program. Elite programs make the sweet 16 more than once a decade. Win conference titles, go to the final 4 and reel in top 50 recruits on a routine basis. When is last time ISU got a top 50 player? And before you rip on Iowa no one is claiming them to be an elite program but thank you for the great laugh comparing ISU bball with duke, Kentucky and Kansas teams that make final 4s and rich history of winning unlike a team with a nice 3-4 yr run.
Oh and by the way Iowa just landed a player top 100 in Tyler cook. How in the world did Iowa manage to lure him from ISU?
ISU fans are my source. They are elite. Bluest of the blue bloods. Winning National Titles is a common misnomer as a requirement. Rupp Arena is considered the Hilton Coliseum of the SEC. Legendary. Your problem is that you haven't been properly educated by your ISU superiors.
Iowa might have landed Tyler Cook, but he would have been a 5* at Hilton.
This is sarcasm right?
Nice work on these posts nhra... Good humor!
