Charlie Moore

The only two teams left from his original six are Memphis and Cal. Memphis is just a catch away from probation and Cal concerns me. Why? A couple years back Cuonzo Martin hired an assistant away from Louisville. That's when all of a sudden he was a great recruiter. Think about it....what was recently discovered about Louisville? o_O

It should be bothersome to State fans that Prohm is dipping into those waters. But hope...hope and hope...that the stanky around Moore has gotten so bad that even his handlers have had to back off for fear of getting caught. Doubt it though.

I don't know why ISU fans would be concerned at all. They either trust the coaches to make good decisions or they don't. Until bad decisions are made I'm not going to worry about it. We are just happy to have year round recruiting to talk about. I had no qualms with Fred having a bunch of transfers but it made for less off-season recruiting to talk about it. It's one of my favorite things outside of watching actual games.

If Moore's camp is on the take there's basically no way I'll ever know about it and I'm not going to accuse him/them based on nothing but rumor from a small segment of people. Actually worrying about it is so far off my radar.

First off, let me note that in the first four pages when Iowa was involved, you didn't post once. I understand, you are a State fan. Of course, now that it is State that is interested you're all about talking Moore. What I don't understand is why you dug up an old thread. Was it so you could say you were staying on topic?

As to bothersome. I'm not going to try to explain why it should bother you that several programs backed off Moore, and your new coach jumped right in. Figure it out for yourself.

Ha when Hawk fans thought they had a chance with Moore he was their savior at PG. The missing piece that Fran has been after for sooo long! The player that can take us to the next level!

Now that Iowa is out of the picture and the kid wants to visit Iowa State he is clearly asking for money. I mean why in the world would a top tier PG want to replace Monte Morris at a top 10 ranked school in the country and play for a coach who is going to send three straight PGs to the NBA? That just doesn't add up.

Good point above. Several schools seemed to have very abruptly backed off Moore. Clowns are still the last refuge for troubled souls. It worked for Fred; let's see how the next warden works the inmates.

Hopefully Iowa State doesn't embarrass itself or worse while recruiting Moore. It's pretty clear some Clone fans don't give a rat's rear.

I wish him no ill will. We got Tyler Cook and I'm thrilled. I think he sold out and overplayed his hand and now will end up at a school he really doesn't want to go to. Good life lesson.

Actually he inherited 2 of the 3 pgs when he became the coach at Murray st and ISU who are already on the team. Way to skew the facts.

I think it's highly unlikely he comes to ISU but if you don't mind me asking what is rotten about his recruitment or why would Prohm have to turn away from him? I was under the impression he waited too long and some of the schools he was interested in filled his spot so that's why his list is so different

Grumbling from this site from in the know posters. Corroborated by some comments from the BHGP eds as well in some articles.

It's probably nothing - but it was more than the usual stuff, I think.

I regret to inform you that your timeline is wrong. Iowa backed off when things got hinky. That is when Prohm got in. So let's be real clear about that.

oh no it was not nothing .... look it sometimes when one does not have access to posts & comments in the Lounge ... the whole picture is not always as clear...

I'm glad Iowa decided to end recruiting this young man. Yes, he's a very good basketball player, but he isn't worth jeopardizing the program over with some of the things that were happening with his recruiting. I know ISU is more comfortable playing in that world and always has been. It will be interesting to see where this ends up.

I hope Moore has tossed the handlers and if he goes to Iowa State it is on the up and up. I hope it for selfish reasons. About 80% of the rest of the country can't tell the difference between Iowa and Iowa State!

DanL was way out in front on Moore...in his thread that started something like An Argument Against Charlie Moore...posted over a month ago...he even took a little heat but seems he had an idea something was amiss.

I think you are getting Fran backed off confused with the kid wasn't interested in attending that University or coming for a visit. Pretty big difference there.

No doubt you (think) you are correct... anyone who claims to know "exactly" how something will turn out (and then, when pressed on that very issue, back pedals as fast as possible) can't be wrong.

you don't have a clue what transpired with Moore...why don't you go to your piggy bank,,,break it open...pay for a subscription so you might actually learn something about Mr Moore..

the only person confused is you ...

Thanks Bob, but before anyone goes and digs it up...I went overboard and was mad at the kid himself. Who knows but he's just taking the wrong advice? And maybe he isn't anymore? It does stink, all the crud that is out there these days.

No sir the only one confused here is you buddy, sorry! You and your little message board junkie friends read one article about an 18 year old kid and now are claiming he is getting paid to play college basketball because...wait for it...he didn't want to play for a mediocre Big Ten team.

Believe it or not there may be better situations out there for him and good for that kid for taking his time exploring his options. You know zero about this kid or his character so please do us all a favor and keep your mouth shut. Xavier Simpson had a really strange recruitment did Michigan pony up the most money at the last minute?

Talking trash about a high school kid because he didn't want to go to Iowa. You should be proud of yourself!

never said a word about Moore getting paid ....so now you shut your mouth...since you cant read either. There have been people (not me) who are far closer to the recruitment of Moore that know more than you or I....you wouldn't know about that because you have no access to the Hawkeye Lounge, publisher posts or others. Put your money where your mouth is ... subscribe...

I don't know specifics of Moore's recruitment by Iowa...but I know there are people that do.
.. the only reason you are here is to stir the pot...that's what ISU people like you do.. never posted on any ISU site...wouldn't waste my time.

didn't want to play for a mediocre Big Ten team. .... so who is talking trash now?

I don't know if he has a problem or not. Lets hope he lands somewhere and uses his basketball talent to get a degree and better his life and the lives of others. I remember the summer before Greg Garmon got to Iowa he did something back home and got into trouble and then left the team and then I saw the article that he was arrested. He wasted his life and cost the taxpayers. Hopefully he can turn it around also.

I agree with this 100% but neither does anybody else on this board. Could something be fishy? Sure. Could it be nothing? Sure. Recruiting gets weird many times. It sucks for coaches but it happens.

If it isn't on the up & up I don't want ISU involved but I don't want ISU backing off due to internet rumor and speculation. I have no way of knowing the truth so I'm not going to worry about it. I want him until there's a valid reason not to. If he visits and doesn't choose ISU I'll be disappointed....like I always am. However, there's always other players so it's all good.

Most of us have no first hand knowledge why Iowa stopped recruiting Moore ... but I have read Kakert's post ...that is enough for me.

Anyone who thinks Moore decided to no longer consider Iowa (opposed to Fran decided to move on) ... doesn't have a clue and/or is just an ISU moron yapping because the kid now mentions ISU as a possible official visit destination.

Ya ...maybe the kid will get some help from his family/others to land somewhere he will be happy with.

hum...ya there are people that know...but they are not positing such on the freebe site. All I know is Iowa stopped recruiting him ... Moore did not drop Iowa ... nor decided he didn't want to play for a mediocre B1G school (as was previously suggested by another ISU poster).

“Iowa is a great program,” Moore said. “Fran McCaffery is a cool dude and they just have nice facilities and they have a great relationship with my family"

this was in late July...something changed ...such both Illinois & Iowa went a different direction...good luck to the kid & his family...

you & I could get along....maybe :D...I never posted that ISU getting involved (if they are) with Moore is not on the up & up. Damn I would hope so.

I don't think you have worry about your coach backing off because of stuff posted on the internet...

I don't think ISU even has a visit set up so it may be much ado about nothing. Heck, he may visit and love it and the staff may smell something fishy and back off much like Iowa "reportedly" did.

And yes, we probably could get along. As long as you don't take this stuff too seriously we will be on the same page.

I think it's pretty unfair to the kid to just assume his recruitment could jeopardize a program. Obviously it wasn't meant to be with him and Iowa and I doubt he ends up in Ames but I'll wish him the best wherever he goes. The kid has a lot of talent and should be able to succeed anywhere if he focuses on basketball

Chicago recruiting is a bit of a cesspool, but with the amount of talent there it is hard to just completely ignore. There was a lot of happiness on this board when Hutton and Moss committed and "getting back into the Chicago market". Personally I think Iowa should always have at least 2 Chicago players on the roster if possible just to keep those inroads open. Fran is pretty good and eyeing talent and character and getting in on decent players early. I don't think he or any coach is squeaky clean. However, I do believe Fran won't do anything/everything just to land a recruit. It seems reasonable based on what's been said that Fran and staff reached a point where they either realized it wasn't worth staying after Moore or their odds of landing him weren't worth the trouble. All that said, I don't think it means Moore himself is a bad kid or deserving of our scorn. There are just a lot of shady people in the recruiting world and if we are college basketball fans we have to accept that is part of the game. I'd still be happy if he ended up here in the spring.

A lot of sour grapes on here.
Someone doesn't understand the term sour grapes. Losing Ulis to Kentucky lead to some sour grapes. When a program is no longer interested in a kid because his handlers have made certain requests that raise serious ethics questions if not worse, it's not sour grapes. It's a realization that a decision was made for the long-term health of a program. It's not the kid's fault that he may have adults involved in his life that have caused issues. It's just an unfortunate reality in the world of basketball recruiting. I'm glad Iowa has chosen not to go down that path even thought I would have loved to see this young guy in Iowa City.
