Connor Coming Back For A 6th Year?

He has played well lately but I want to see him move on. With him there enherinlty Fran will over play him. There are games like the last two where he should get 20+ min but there are others where he hurts the team and still gets the same minutes. That is my worry

FFS, use the Google if you aren't sure how to spell. Or use a different word!

🤣

I kind of want to see heads explode.

Well I really hope he plays another year. He was unbelievably good last night. It is great to have toughness on the team. Why not come back and get your Master's degree?
Honest question. Would you have responded the same if this news came out a few weeks ago?

No doubt Connor has played well lately, but he hasn't played well at a larger percentage of the season.

I hope he does come back, but doesn't play basketball.

That statement has nothing to do with his abilities or his dad being Fran. I have said that he's played the best basketball of his career the last month. We always hear that he is a much better baseball player and if his goal is to still play pro ball, he needs to actually give himself a chance.

Absolutely. Connor has played very well all year. Has not shot the ball well all year. Now that his shoulder is better and he is no longer wearing the brace, it is easy to see his stroke looks much smoother. Shooting is only one part of a player's game.

I would take this Connor every day, but I do believe he took minutes from healthy and more productive players for most of this season. My worry is his dad has a preference to play him over others even when playing poorly. He doesn't extend that same approach to other players

That's a popular viewpoint which I think is completely wrong.

His shoulder is better? Wasn’t it bothering him in the MSU game when he fouled someone? Or am I imagining things? Maybe it was the OSU game.

Connor is the ultimate team player and leader, without an ego. He doesn’t care how many minutes he gets or how many shots he takes. Whether he comes back in a GA or player capacity doesn’t matter, but he’s an awesome guy to have on your team

There are countless examples, but a quick one to share from last night that I noticed: Sandfort had that great pump fake on the baseline then took a dribble and missed a point blank layup at the rim later in the first half. He was only in for a couple more minutes, but was pretty down on himself upon exiting the game (pounded his chair and hung his head as he sat down). To Ash’s credit, he was right there to pick Payton up - another guy who is a great team player. Before the second half started, Connor went out of his way to walk over to PS and talk with him for about 30 seconds. I’m no lip reader, but it looked like (based on a pat or two on the back and shooting motion from Connor) the premise of the conversation was CM encouraging Payton and telling him to keep shooting the rock. Connor doing that was impressive to me as keeping confidence and morale of individuals high is a trait of a great leader

As long as his doesn't count toward the scholarship limit so be it.
I'm still skeptical that incoming recruit Josh Dix is not going to be ready to provide quality minutes next year and Connor can somehow fill his minutes.
I'm more worried about losing Keegan and how Fran decides to replace his production. There's nothing in the portal that could replace Keegan and there's no one on Iowa's roster that will replace the tandem of Keegan and Kris.

Our additions,Bowen and Dix do not really play his position so with Dix up in the air I think CMac would be valuable as a glue guy next year. C'mon back CMac.

He hasn't played very well all year. He's been a different player since the PSU game which is great but the body of work for the season is still pretty meh. It's time to move on

Despite the nonsense people come up with about hating players, the only thing people hated about Connor was his refusal to take an open shot for the better part of 3 years.

If he continues to keep defenses honest hes an asset who can play multiple positions. So yeah why not.

TBF there are some who have made it personal, mainly because of Fran. But we’re talking about a very minute portion of people who have complained about Cmac.

Besides his recent shooting, his biggest asset is directing traffic on the floor on both ends. He’s stepped into a team leader role very nicely.

It's a "free" scholarship in that it doesn't count against the limit. I don't care either way as long as he is willing to be a team player, i.e., not be a starter or play starter minutes. He's a coach on the floor now, and a damn good one.
COVID seniors don't count? Can't see a single negative in that case

McCaffery spoke in his postgame interview last night about proceeding next season without Connor, JBo and Ash.
Every one of our last four games is a "Senior Night," including Monday against NW. Hopefully we can disappoint several fanbases with the exception of ours, which hasn't always been the case.

He always did many things well but having his man in the lane not defending him neutralized most of it.

Just keeping the defense honest opens up the rest of his offense.

Hes always been a solid defender and rebounder.

Right now I think he should be on the floor more than Patrick.

It didn't show up on a box score, but he was also a huge part of keeping Lidell in check in the OSU win.

I was pretty down on Connor the 1st half of the season, but he's won me over by playing some really good basketball over the 2nd half. I feel like he understands his role on the team, and he's understanding that his strength is as a rhythm spot shooter. He's not going to take anyone off the dribble so if he isn't open, just toss some dimes.
