Connor Coming Back For A 6th Year?

Right now I think he should be on the floor more than Patrick.
Patrick is good for at least two dribble turnovers per game. He just doesn't protect the ball all that well. OTOH, his shot has come around some. Patrick could be a much better shot blocker if he played defense with more intensity. A lot of room to improve.

He's averaging 0.7 turnovers/game. He's also averaging 1.7 assists/game.

Not saying he doesn't have room for improvement, but don't manufacture something that doesn't exist.

If he wants to come back that's cool. I don't think he's a great defender, but the thing I like about him is he is a willing defender. He'll battle bigger players and not back down. He's also willing to take a foul. We've seen so many capable Iowa players not willing to risk effort on defense its nice to have his leadership on the court.

He gets bailed out sometimes when the ball is knocked away from his possession and it fortunately ends up with a teammate. Technically not a TO but the point stands - he does not protect the ball well. Sometimes when he loses possession it turns into a floor scramble ending with a jump ball call.

Nothing against Conner; but, a couple games isn't a proper gauge of his whole season. He gave it his all and is appreciated for it; however, overall, he is not a good player. He has been good the last few games and has been poor many others.

Facts are facts.
Listen, if you prefer a more refined description such as "turnovers and near turnovers when Patrick is careless with the dribble causing loss of control resulting in a mad scramble for possession of the basketball sometimes resulting in a teammate re-possessing the ball and other times resulting in a jump ball call" I'm happy to do it.

He is on quite a run lately. I checked his game log and he has made his last six three point attempts, and is 11-17 from deep since that game he made four of them. It would be good to have his toughness and leadership back. He seems to be good with whatever number of minutes he gets.

LOL!

I like Patrick and see a lot of upside in his game. I also think he fits well to what this team is doing. I do agree however that his defense is at times missing and earlier in the season was a complete miss on the boards, which with his length was confusing. He is probably the 3rd best player on the team

I agree that PMac's defense is sub par other than the occasional sensational block, and that he fades both in his rebounding and on some of his drives. Lots to work on.

Honest question. Would you have responded the same if this news came out a few weeks ago?

No doubt Connor has played well lately, but he hasn't played well at a larger percentage of the season.
You think maybe thats because he's had two hip surgery's and numerous injuries this year as well. At least 2 ankle sprains and now the nerve injury in his arm or shoulder. Dudes a warrior.......

I hope he does come back, but doesn't play basketball.

That statement has nothing to do with his abilities or his dad being Fran. I have said that he's played the best basketball of his career the last month. We always hear that he is a much better baseball player and if his goal is to still play pro ball, he needs to actually give himself a chance.
I think his baseball career has moved on.....

His shoulder is better? Wasn’t it bothering him in the MSU game when he fouled someone? Or am I imagining things? Maybe it was the OSU game.
Your not wrong, and I don't think its a shoulder injury. He has some nerve issue in his upper arm, that acts up when it gets pressure. I believe anyway...

I really like Connor's leadership on the court. True, he's not the greatest shooter, but he's a good defender, and he can rebound and press. After all this time, he knows Fran's system inside and out. One thing that he's shown lately is the ability to hit long range shots and is not afraid of "The Moment".

Connor’s tenacity and enthusiasm is always welcomed by me. It took a few made shots to silence his detractors and I hope he can continue making those shots the rest of the season.

No doubt. My point is that I don't think his minutes early in the season were warranted. There were games and more than a few where it was obvious that Sanford was more productive and Perkins better all around.

Where Connor excels is in his ability to get the ball down on the block, but Rebracca is no Garza and prefer seeing Keegan or Pat drive in vs a post feed to Filip. Felt in many games Sanford would have been the better play. The other area that I want Connor is when a team is pressing and we need someone to inbounds, he makes the right decision almost all the time.

I don't hate the kid, just felt his minutes were exceeded what they should have been based on his play. If he plays well give him the minutes, but that should be consistent for everyone. My gripe is if Perkins or others aren't effective they sit...not the same for Connor. My worry is more the same next season but if he plays like he has lately sign me up for being excited

Who cares about detractors?

He needed to make shots for real reasons that matter like opponents clogging the lane with his defender.

If Connor wants to coach, he needs to add to his Bball knowledge beyond the McCaffrey system and move on. He should look for an opportunity where he can be a grad transfer and/or a grad assistant. Mid major would be nice.

This thread is great.
😂

We have a bunch of career politicians on this board. Stick that finger up in the air and see which way the wind blows 😂

Hell, I didn’t think Connor had much of a role on this team because of the lack of a true post presence. He’s proven me wrong. Tough, smart player who is now capable of hitting the occasional 3.

There are a lot of people, myself included, who thought that without a major offensive post presence to feed, that Connor wouldn’t have much of a role on this team as a non-shooter. We were wrong. As the season has progressed, all of our current contributors are settling into/finding their roles, Connor included

He is playing some of the best defense of his career (and is arguably our most versatile defender behind the Murray’s), rebounds decently, continues to facilitate well, and has an improving three point shot … in addition to the oft-discussed intangibles (leadership, hustle, intensity, etc) that he brings

You know it’s possible for opinions to evolve as time goes on

Connor has been playing well and making significant contributions the last few games. I never thought I'd say this but I want him to come back. He's adding value.

You’re right! This has happened twice this year! Unacceptable!
