This is a virus. It can make you sick. Like all viruses it can lead to further issues. There is no vaccine. There isn’t one for the common cold either, which I’ve been bed ridden for days while competing at a high level. Its very contagious. People die from all virus’s.

I was the one that first started this post and I have been watching all of this play out! Can't believe how things have steamrolled with all of this playing out. I too am now worried that they will pull the plug altogether on the National Championships. If so, so bummed for our beloved Hawkeye wrestling program! I do get it though on needing to take it serious though as well. I really do believe that if it is cancelled. All wrestlers should get another year added!! Go Hawks!!
The number of cases in a country depends on the availability of testing. As of March 3rd, S Korea had performed ~ 110,000 tests for Covid-19, and Italy had over 23,000 tests. The USA had only tested 472 by then. In reality, there are likely several thousand cases in USA by now.
Growth rates of Covid-19 will depend on factors including hand washing, quarantines and social distance, so there will be differences between countries. The doubling rate may be slower in some and faster in others. But a best estimate for doubling is thought to be approximately every 6 days.
The larger point is that the spread of Covid-19 is happening at exponential speed. It is highly likely that our healthcare system will be overwhelmed, and it could happen in a couple of months.

All we know is the number of reported cases and the number of deaths that are attributed to it. If 100 people come in contact with the virus and 10 people get the virus and only 2 get tested, how can anyone come up with a number for how contagious it is or how deadly it is?

Would remind the faithful that one of the most successful trials of Socialism in america took place in the backyard of the University of Iowa (Iowa City). Namely the Amana Colonies. The Amana community(s) today are certainly different than they were 150 years ago. But the evolution of the colonies was based on communal living (Socialism).
