Coronavirus

The issue is not only the people that will attend the events. It’s the people that may pick up the virus and spread it further when they leave and go home, or to work , or to other events. I’ll believe science on this one.
Well, of course, that is true every year for colds and flu. Average age of Italian deaths is 82. Every flu season will now shut down society and the incredible ruination of businesses and people lives? Loooong way to go to catch stats of even h1n1.

How is a airborne virus that is for the most part still an unknown and not contained a “libtard” issue?! God there are so many ****ing mouth breathers in this world.

Most are related to both conservatives and liberals. Just cause you disagree with someone doesn't mean you have to reach for childish vocabulary. There are plenty of dumb people that are good company, but the guy dropping ltard doesn't typically have many friends.

Looks like the State of Washington is going to impose a statewide ban of gatherings greater than 250 people. Spokane, WA is one of the NCAA pod sites. Looks like there is going to sites w/o spectators.

Social distancing is the only workable method to slow the spread of this, and if we don't slow it it will absolutely overwhelm our medical treatment systems.

I agree. The situation is very dynamic. We'll just have to wait and see.

You just keep being you and going to Trump rallies shaking hands. That will solve our problems quickly.

I haven't been to a rally but otherwise pretty accurate post, thank you. :)

So you are taking the over or trying to change things up?
In reply to the original post, I take the over 16,000. Are we on?

“You do realize that in 2019 16000 people died from just the regular flu?? This is getting hyped by democrats and media to try to hurt trump. They are evil people”

Overreaction is why we are seeing both of the issues you mention. The markets are reacting to the overreaction created by the media and false information about the virus and that is to be expected . Quarantines are the exact same response to an over response from health providers

Just want to get this straight - You say that physicians, scientists, epidemiologists, infectious disease gurus and other health experts all over the world are overreacting.....but you and Trump have it figured out.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Obviously, not everyone will contract the disease. It depends on how good the governmental response is.

No,.. It depends on what you do to protect yourself and those around you,... Don't expose yourself to conditions where you could easily become infected and if you become infected quarantine yourself to protect others,.. don't rely on the government..

As of March 8, about 500 cases of Covid-19 had been diagnosed in the U.S. Given the substantial underdiagnosis at present due to limitations in testing for the coronavirus, let’s say there are 2,000 current cases, a conservative starting bet.

We can expect a doubling of cases every six days, according to several epidemiological studies. Confirmed cases may appear to rise faster (or slower) in the short term as diagnostic capabilities are ramped up (or not), but this is how fast we can expect actual new cases to rise in the absence of substantial mitigation measures.

That means we are looking at about 1 million U.S. cases by the end of April; 2 million by May 7; 4 million by May 13; and so on.

As the health care system becomes saturated with cases, it will become increasingly difficult to detect, track, and contain new transmission chains. In the absence of extreme interventions like those implemented in China, this trend likely won’t slow significantly until hitting at least 1% of the population, or about 3.3 million Americans.

What does a case load of this size mean for health care system? That’s a big question, but just two facets — hospital beds and masks — can gauge how Covid-19 will affect resources.

The U.S. has about 2.8 hospital beds per 1,000 people (South Korea and Japan, two countries that have seemingly thwarted the exponential case growth trajectory, have more than 12 hospital beds per 1,000 people; even China has 4.3 per 1,000). With a population of 330 million, this is about 1 million hospital beds. At any given time, about 68% of them are occupied. That leaves about 300,000 beds available nationwide.

And here we are, 3 days later:
US 1039 cases

Or you could go with the post I responded to
“That’s over 6 million that will die in the USA alone. Don’t be dense”

That is how the internet works. Think it’s actually in the rules somewhere. Right after ‘mention a girl, must have pics’

The article only talks about that for three counties none of which Spokane is in. But yes I think it’s headed that direction.

Run for your lives! If you see a basketball game, flee, flee!! You're doomed!
Or... stay home if you are afraid. Don't visit old people if you think you'll infect them. And keep living with that fantasy that washing your hands and hoarding toilet paper will save your life.

8,200 people walk through my store every day. Why is there not a push to shut down retailers like there is for sporting events? Probably even more of a germ factory with people touching everything everywhere.

What has the mortality rate done as the cases have escalated?

Stayed about the same. Because you cannot count "new" cases to get a mortality rate when it may take 2-4 weeks for recovery, or deaths to occur.

US has 29 deaths. 8 listed as "recovered".
That ain't looking good.

Still sitting at ~3% mortality, with hundreds infected and possibly at risk of dying from it - especially as local hospitals are overwhelmed.

As has been noted for you: areas well-prepared who contain this can have <1% mortality (on the order of 5x-6x of the flu); areas overwhelmed, like Italy, end up with 4-5%, or 40-50x the flu.

I don't think you understand the difference between risk and probability. Carry on.

I am going to channel my inner Legend12 and say that you should just die. What a pathetic and stupid post. As someone who doesn't identify as a Republican or Democrat (or any specific party) and instead prefer to use common sense, it's ignorant shit like this that is actually destroying this country. Not the Democrats/Liberals (like people like you say) or Republicans/Conservatives (like the extremes on the Left say). It is morons like you that want to die on the hill supporting and believing everything an incompetent blowhard, lying, narcissist tells them because they are too weak and dumb to think for themselves and they want to "win" rather than admit they are/were wrong. You are in fact the evil person and the people like you on both sides of the aisle with your frat boy mentality and insecurities.

except health experts say it Wii be a minimum 1 year to 18 months before a vaccine is available and who gets it. This is not flu, it's a new pathogen. We know how to treat flu, make vaccines for flu, we know flu, our hospitals and staff know flu and are well trained for it. It may turn out similar, but those calling it a cold and no big deal have no idea
Funny, all my kids have flu shots, all of them got the flu this year.

You do realize that the death rate of the coronavirus is at approximately 3.5% (as of March 3, according to the WHO) while the death rate for the average seasonal flu is <0.3%, according to the CDC?

However, I am also of the belief that if you are younger-middle aged with a normal immune system, then you are likely safe
I think it's clear to also say, that number is completely bogus. We have no idea how many people actually got/had the coronavirus and didn't die. How they think they come up with these numbers is mindboggling.

Okay, the same could be said of the flu. If I get the flu, I do not go to the doctor’s office, and it likely goes unreported. The point was not that the numbers are exactly 0.3% and 3.5%. The point was that, of REPORTED cases, the death rate is substantially higher for the coronavirus.

My opinion, based off these reported numbers, is that it is currently irresponsible to dismiss it as “like the flu,” especially when, as you accurately point out, the virus is still relatively new, and nobody really knows the extent to which it will impact society

This is an epidemic for sure but spreading false information and fear make it a pandemic so make sure you have all your facts straight before you post

I always wondered what the difference was between an epidemic and a pandemic. I didn't realize that it was false information and fear among those at risk. How is that calculated? Thanks for the education.

Just saw on CNN that this virus is said to be 10 times more lethal then the flu? This came via Trumps Coronavirus team doctors.
