D1 Baseball Predicts Iowa 5th in B1G in 2021. On May 6, 2019 IOWA ranked #24 (was Great Season despite 1-7 Finish). 2020 Season Cut Short by Covid

Pittsburgh down big to Wake Forest, they lose this and they’ll fall to 22-18. They were announced as one of 20 potential regional sites. Since then they have been awful. They could find themselves on the bubble.

Georgia Tech just hit a walkoff home run vs UNC. Big the bubble, but also the home run cleared the right field wall by about 3/4 of a tall evergreen tree.

The B1G Standings are NUTS!!

And just imagine if tOSU had gotten to play (and sweep) the 3 games from Minnesota. They would be right there, too.

Illinois is playing really well now, too. 4 wins in a row. Too little too late for them, however.

Huskers inching closer to a B1G title...came back from a 9-2 deficit to beat Ohio State 11-9

Yeah I’m kinda mad I won’t be in Omaha next week. Instead, I’ll be in Lansing.

So, they are sending you to Michigan to cover the team next weekend! That's cool!!

I am not going to get too worked up about this Iowa team. We are a borderline NCAA Tournament team w/ flaws. Sure, I would love to get in, but our record is what it is. It's not like they are not trying to win; they just don't have the pitching & the offensive firepower to get over the top in some of these games. It's maddening for fans but think about what it must be like for the players.

And even if we get in, can we trust our pitching in a double elimination Regional after Wallace?

No I’m going on my own to next weekend’s series. I played travel baseball with a pitcher from MSU, so that’s why I’m going.

I like Baumann after Wallace. Davitt and Irvine are up and down, as is the bullpen.

So here is where Iowa is at, and we’ve heard this story before.

Nebraska, we want them to win out and finish 32-11.
Iowa wins out and goes 27-17
Maryland beats Michigan today, then 2-1 vs Indiana = 27-17
Michigan loses today, and gets swept by Nebraska = 26-18
Indiana loses once to OSU,then 1-2 vs OSU = 26-18

Yes, Iowa has flaws. I get worked up because it really sucks to have this happen year after year as of lately. It’d be nice to get that at large bid again. I feel like the next two years after this Iowa won’t be in contention for anything more than trying to make the conference tournament. Maybe I’ll be surprised though.

Maybe Covid cost Iowa the big at large bid chance? I felt like it was going to happen last year with beating UNC, Duke, and how the offense/pitching was clicking.

Last 4 are a must win

And if we can't do that, we simply are not good enough this season.

The covid pause right before the season started hurt us coming out of the gates. Injuries have hurt us. Up and down starting & relief pitching have hurt us. Strike outs have hurt us.

Where we sit right now sucks, but our record reflects what is described in the previous paragraph. When you have that kind of bad luck and that many flaws, we should feel fortunate to even be in the NCAA Tournament discussion.

Texas A&M has parted ways with Rob Childress, he was there 16 years. 13 straight postseason trips until this year. Unless there are other issues, this is unreal.

Sunday D1 Digest: Postseason Stock Report
by Kendall Rogers, D1Baseball.com

- It was a huge day for Nebraska, which won the Big Ten Conference regular season title outright and punched its ticket to the NCAA Tournament with the league's automatic bid. The Huskers swept four games from Indiana and Ohio State over the weekend, and now, at worst, would finish percentage points ahead of Michigan or Maryland in the league standings. Nebraska's record sits at 29-11 overall and its RPI is up to 47 -- granted the RPI means pretty much nothing in the Big Ten. While Nebraska's postseason situation is clear cut, the situation isn't as great with some other teams in the league.

- Updating the bubble situation for some other Big Ten teams at the moment, I still feel confident about Michigan making the field even though it is 3 1/2 games back of the Huskers in the standings and is tied with Maryland for second place. Both the Terps and Wolverines remain in good shape to make the field. But Indiana is trending in the wrong direction with a 24-15 record and is 4-6 in its last 10 games. And Iowa, which entered the weekend needing a series win over Northwestern, dropped two of three to the Wildcats. That likely does it for the Hawkeyes' postseason chances. For now, I like the Big Ten to have three postseason bids with Indiana, barely, on the good side of the bubble.

Iowa sweep.
Nebraska sweep.
Indiana or Maryland sweep.
Pray.

Man, IU has now lost 5 straight. Their 4 remaining games: 1 vs tOSU & 3 vs Maryland.

Could Iowa realistically pass IU in the standings? What sucks is Iowa is 1-2 head to head with IU.

I bet tOSU wishes it could still play those 3 games vs Minnesota, which got canceled when Minny had covid issues. Those 3 easy wins would have put them in a tie for 5th. They will end up only playing 42 games.

The hope and pray scenario would be a sweep vs MSU and Indiana falling apart completely and losing out. Iowa would finish a game ahead and Indiana would be 4-10 in their last 14.

I think committee would take 3 big ten teams in that scenario to be honest.
