I'm in the same camp as you. I tend to think at this point Minnesota has just pulled the plug on the seasonYes, but I’m not serious. It will depend if Minnesota is healthy enough to play, but they are 4-26, so.

for sure its gotta be Maryland to fall even or below Iowa so that Iowa is top 4 in the B1G with a 3-1 game, head to head, tie breaker over Maryland
Not sure if any of the other top 3 teams can realistically fall even or below Iowa this late. And if they do, head to head, Iowa falls short.
1-3 vs Michigan
2-3 vs Nebraska
1-2 vs Indiana
4-8 Overall
@FranisdamanThis is a pipe dream, but Iowa can still “tie” for first.
Iowa 28-16 by winning out
Michigan 28-16 by going 2-1 vs MD, 1-2 vs Neb
Maryland 28-16 by going 1-2 vs Mich, 3-0 vs IU
Nebraska 27-16 by going 0-4 in pod, 2-1 vs Mich
Indiana 26-18 by going 2-2 in pod, lose to Ill, swept by MD
Aren't you glad that:
* we started the season 2 weeks late
* we have no mid week games
* we have no non conference games
* we play 44 reg season games (IF we are lucky), where everybody else who considers baseball important, is playing 56 games
* we have no conference tournament games to help improve our resume
The B1G sure did us all a big favor....
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....
Let’s say best case scenario Iowa goes 5-1 to finish 27-17. I think we need Nebraska to get hot and finish 7-0, 32-11. Michigan beats Maryland 2-1, gets swept by Nebby to finish 27-17. Indiana finishes 3-5, 27-17. Maryland finishes 26-18. Can't leave Iowa out in that scenario IMO.If Iowa goes 5-1 or better, I think they’ll be sweating regardless on selection Monday. It’s imperative that one or more of the teams fall even or below Iowa in the standings.

Looks like we lost about 10 spots in the pecking order with the series loss to Illinois, shows how fluid all of this is. And...similar to basketball, be wary of the 'bid stealers' as Kyle has noted a few times, those teams who get the AQ from their conf. tourney with no shot as at large can prove to be problematic. I'd be interested in side by side resumes for last 5 and first 5. Fran, if you are aren't busy...yeah...that would be great....Latest D1 Baseball Projections

Maryland has Michigan and Indiana left, so I think you hope for 3-3, but ideally 2-4.Iowa can finish no worse than 4-2. 5-1 would be great. 6-0 would be ideal.
We all need to root for Maryland to go in the tank in its final two series.
Iowa finishes strong.
Maryland finishes weak.
Iowa has head-to-head advantage if there is a tie and I simply don't see Iowa getting a NCAA bid if it ends up a game behind Maryland. There must be at least a tie.
I'm confident with what Wallace is doing.
Regardless of the number of hits that Illinois had, I still like that Bauman attacked the plate and forced the Illini to hit their way on. I'm still amazed that the ball left the yard on the Illini 2 run HR on Sunday. The pitch was in a good location and the batter appeared to have to reach for the ball. Must have caught it "just right."
I have about zero confidence right now in Davitt and Irvine.
Alabama played LSU last weekend. LSU took 2/3.Several of those bubble/last 5/first 5 teams also have conf. tournaments to potentially boost resumes. Maryland safely in field right now so yes, best case scenario is to have them lose both series (at least one sweep would be nice!) and then we replace them. There, simple as that!
This! And then we can all stop chasing bubble teams results, although I'm partial to saying "Gauchos!" Clemson is barely above .500 but safely in field...hmmm...Maryland has Michigan and Indiana left, so I think you hope for 3-3, but ideally 2-4.
Iowa goes 5-1 and they are 27-17. Maryland goes 3-3 and they are 27-17. Iowa won season series 3-1 and Iowa gets picked for Big Ten #4.
Yep realized that just as I was posting, which certainly helped LSU.Alabama played LSU last weekend. LSU took 2/3.
ACC is stacked. Could get 10-11 teams in.This! And then we can all stop chasing bubble teams results, although I'm partial to saying "Gauchos!" Clemson is barely above .500 but safely in field...hmmm...

Oh nice. Yeah that home plate umpire was brutal. I like the Big Tens chances to get 4 teams. If we are being realistic, with non conference play Nebraska, Michigan, Indiana and maybe Maryland would all be Q1 teams. As long as the committee is logical I think the Big Ten gets 4.Kyle -
(A) Had I known that it was you with the laptop in the top row at Banks Field, I would have introduced myself. I happened to be the person wearing a long sleeve black shirt just above the entrance tunnel to immediate right of home plate who - from time to time - gave the home plate umpire a bit of a hard time. The rather loud "you've got to be kidding me; that's been a strike all day" comment came from me.
(B) I sure hope that you are right that the B1G gets 4 teams (and, of course, that Iowa finds a way to get into 4th place). I'm far less confident about that now than I was one week ago. The strict adherence to RPI for regional host teams was concerning. The selection of softball teams for the NCAA tournament is also concerning. I cannot help but wonder if there is going to be a "message sent" to the B1G about conference only play and Iowa really didn't help its case this weekend.
Agree...but then look what happened with softball. Who knows what the committee will doOh nice. Yeah that home plate umpire was brutal. I like the Big Tens chances to get 4 teams. Northwestern State leads LSU 2-0 in the 4th. Tennessee Tech leads Kentucky 3-0, so good new there.Illinois beats Indiana 3-2, the first domino in Iowa tying at 28-16 For first has fallen,
Northwestern State leads LSU 2-0 in the 4th. Tennessee Tech leads Kentucky 3-0, so good new there.
However, Georgia leads GTech 2-1 in the 4th.
Georgia Tech walks it off in 14 vs Georgia.Northwestern State defeats LSU 7-3
Georgia, UNC and Kentucky are winning.
Big thing for the three SEC teams LSU, UGA and KY is that they will be in the first round of the conference tournament next week, which is single elimination.

I initially overreacted thinking Iowa wasn’t in or the first groups out, now that I see they are in as a 4 and not last four in. I wonder what the line of thinking is here?
Yeah, I really thought we would be on the outside looking in.
Maryland players/coaches/fans must be scratching their heads this morning. It looks like that 3 games to 1 head to head over Maryland matters to the folks at Baseball America.
Yeah pretty shocked with this one. Only thing I can think of is that they assume Iowa will finish tied or just ahead of Maryland in the standings.Baseball America's Latest NCAA Baseball Tournament Projected Field Of 64 (5/19/21)

Its all in Iowa's hands now. They have 6 games against two average to bad B1G teams. If Iowa is even or even a game behind them, it most certainly should matter.

I think we go 5-1, at least. I don't think Maryland does any better than 3-3 vs Michigan and IU. That means we finish no worse than tied with Maryland. If the Selection Committee takes the top 4 B1G teams, we should be good to go.
But, damn, if we get there, I don't think we have enough pitching to get very far. And we strike out too much.
But lets just hope/worry we get there, first.

If we get can get back to mid season form we have a shot. Wallace, Irvine, Davitt, Baumann were all throwing well. You always have Nedved, Hoffman, Leonard out of the bullpen. Its all in Iowa's hands now. They have 6 games against two average to bad B1G teams.
