Minnesota is one of the worst baseball teams I’ve seen in the conference. I am talking B1G only. It’s pretty incredible actually.
Iowa can finish in a three way tie for 1st at 28-16 with Michigan and Maryland. Nebraska Would go 27-16. It involves tOSU going 4-0 this weekend, Illinois beating Indiana today and so on. I posted it on a thread on here.
Kevin Warren and everybody else in the decision making process need to be asked tough questions. They wont be, but they should be.
Let’s say best case scenario Iowa goes 5-1 to finish 27-17. I think we need Nebraska to get hot and finish 7-0, 32-11. Michigan beats Maryland 2-1, gets swept by Nebby to finish 27-17. Indiana finishes 3-5, 27-17. Maryland finishes 26-18. Can't leave Iowa out in that scenario IMO.
Iowa can finish no worse than 4-2. 5-1 would be great. 6-0 would be ideal.
We all need to root for Maryland to go in the tank in its final two series.
Iowa finishes strong.
Maryland finishes weak.
Iowa has head-to-head advantage if there is a tie and I simply don't see Iowa getting a NCAA bid if it ends up a game behind Maryland. There must be at least a tie.
I'm confident with what Wallace is doing.
Regardless of the number of hits that Illinois had, I still like that Bauman attacked the plate and forced the Illini to hit their way on. I'm still amazed that the ball left the yard on the Illini 2 run HR on Sunday. The pitch was in a good location and the batter appeared to have to reach for the ball. Must have caught it "just right."
I have about zero confidence right now in Davitt and Irvine.

Looks like we lost about 10 spots in the pecking order with the series loss to Illinois, shows how fluid all of this is. And...similar to basketball, be wary of the 'bid stealers' as Kyle has noted a few times, those teams who get the AQ from their conf. tourney with no shot as at large can prove to be problematic. Several of those bubble/last 5/first 5 teams also have conf. tournaments to potentially boost resumes. Maryland safely in field right now so yes, best case scenario is to have them lose both series (at least one sweep would be nice!) and then we replace them. There, simple as that!
Maryland has Michigan and Indiana left, so I think you hope for 3-3, but ideally 2-4.

(A) Had I known that it was you with the laptop in the top row at Banks Field, I would have introduced myself. I happened to be the person wearing a long sleeve black shirt just above the entrance tunnel to immediate right of home plate who - from time to time - gave the home plate umpire a bit of a hard time. The rather loud "you've got to be kidding me; that's been a strike all day" comment came from me.
(B) I sure hope that you are right that the B1G gets 4 teams (and, of course, that Iowa finds a way to get into 4th place). I'm far less confident about that now than I was one week ago. The strict adherence to RPI for regional host teams was concerning. The selection of softball teams for the NCAA tournament is also concerning. I cannot help but wonder if there is going to be a "message sent" to the B1G about conference only play and Iowa really didn't help its case this weekend.
Oh nice. Yeah that home plate umpire was brutal. I like the Big Tens chances to get 4 teams. If we are being realistic, with non conference play Nebraska, Michigan, Indiana and maybe Maryland would all be Q1 teams. As long as the committee is logical I think the Big Ten gets 4.

However, Georgia leads GTech 2-1 in the 4th.

Also, sometimes I feel like the ACC and SEC get too much credit. Yes I know they are the power conferences. The RPI math always favors them, but a team can having a losing conference record and look like shit all year. Then they win or sweep a series against a top team and go 26-22 then BAM they are all of a sudden in the tournament, give me a break.

If Iowa is even or even a game behind them, it most certainly should matter.

I think we go 5-1, at least. I don't think Maryland does any better than 3-3 vs Michigan and IU. That means we finish no worse than tied with Maryland. If the Selection Committee takes the top 4 B1G teams, we should be good to go.
But, damn, if we get there, I don't think we have enough pitching to get very far. And we strike out too much.
But lets just hope/worry we get there, first.

Let’s just get there, then worry about the rest. Northwestern and MSU both present unique challenges. Hell, these two teams are what cost Iowa essentially in 18 and 19. It’s time to right the wrongs of the past.

Now that finals are out of the way, maybe they can do a reset and fully focus on what is at hand
I was really hoping Iowa’s rotation would be more consistent. I was also hoping for a better bullpen. Leonard has seemed to have it more together the last few weeks, but it’d be nice to have one more really dependable arm as opposed to guys who look great one week then the next week can’t throw a strike.
