unless teemer is out for the year, there is no excuse for this decision. burning a redshirt of a promising freshman for a random dual against maryland is basically coaching malpractice. i don’t care if the kid wants to wrestle and not redshirt, it’s the coaches decision to be an adult and make the best choice for him and the program.

combine this with a few other recent decisions and it’s getting harder and harder to defend the staff. at this point i don’t blame @smalls103 for being out on iowa last year.

NCAA is supposed to be changing the rules to where you get 5 years of eligibility to compete in 4 post seasons. If that’s the case, pulling his redshirt doesn’t affect him in the long run. Will still have the opportunity to wrestle 4 post seasons
Tnt knows something here in concrete? That the rest of the wrestling community does not?

that is hypothetical as the rule hasn’t been changed yet. even if it does change are we sure that it will apply to athletes already in college? it seems premature to bank on all that happening. i mean 157 is far from his ideal weight too. there are plenty of other options they could have thrown out there for a dual that isn’t in question.

they wouldn’t take that risk with Ferrari so why do it with Estrada? it is pure mismanagement

My guess is they might be a little more on the inside than your average cesspooler.
So if that is the case they know the fan base is going to call them out on this. Just seems like they could do a whole lot better with damage control not only on them but the entire program.

No comparison to Ferrari. A possible 4 timer after he redshirts this year. Estrada is tough and looks good but likely fights to AA if he cracks the line up.

top 25 big boarder. he isn’t a scrub.

yep.. 4 duals and 2 tournaments in the 1st semester which means they have to be attached

Unless Teemer is hurt and out, WHY would they do that??? I am at a loss here!?!?!? Even if they had no one else with them and had to FFT!

Totally agree. This makes absolutely no sense. Estrada has looked really good and shown high upside this season. Waste a year for a dual that was locked up before you showed up? Inexcusable imo.

I’m not sure if you’re arriving at conclusions with all the information needed to reach the most valid and best conclusions.

Someone gets it . But love reading all the posts from people who don't get it. Not all but many Iowa fans are babies. Hopefully they've tough wives to raise the kids

ok so do the same with ferrari then right? if there is no risk of wasting a season then it shouldn’t be a problem
You still don’t get it. Gabe needs the seeding matches since he is going in the post season. Ferrari will wrestle against Okie State and/or Nebraska if needed to win the meet.

Estrada is not wrestling in the off season unless Teemer can’t make it. Getting him matches is okay if the starter is dinged up. Teemer got a little dinged up against Ohio State but insisted on wrestling against PSU. Iowa is not taking any chance.

Trust that these guys know what they are doing and the team is on board.

Ferrari is an obvious high AA and NC potential out the gate. No disrespect to Estrada and I hope he has a great career as a Hawkeye but he’s a guy that I think would get put on the back burner if a portal opportunity came around and I hate that’s the state of things. You take the risk with Ferrari because of the potential.

What? How does this answer the question?

oh great message to send to recruits. unless you are the #1 overall guy it is acceptable to gamble with your eligibility.

everybody who isn’t an apologist knows this is a boneheaded move. except of course if he’s going to 141 but that seems far fetched unless he weighed in significantly under 157. i will gladly eat crow if he is cutting down..

Check out some explanations in another thread. Then try to get a hold of yourself.

I don’t disagree but that’s the reality that we’ve been living in for around 3 years now. I don’t particularly care for the move but we’re actively recruiting Bo Basset Jax Forrest and the Rainey twins. Maybe he wants to show his talents while he can. The portal works both ways

He will wrestle again this year . Gabe is the guy and needs the big 10 matches for seeding.

The beginning of the "Maryland" thread.

thank you. i see the ncaa eligibility and the thing about estrada wanting to wrestle. there is no requirement to wrestle that 5th year if he doesn’t want it. this would allow him to change his mind. sometimes 18 and 19 year old kids don’t have to best long term vision.

They still burned a year for nothing potentially. They could have brought KV and thrown him out there.
Not disagreeing just being Mr. Brightside here, Kael V./VV/Block/Rathjen are all going to be fighting for 49.

Perhaps the answer is simply that Miguel wasn't going to pass on the opportunity to wrestle with the Hawkeye singlet on? Some guys just want to compete right now and are more than willing to do whatever it takes to help the team. I feel Miguel is one of those guys.

No way that's the case . All the know it all's here are saying that can't be the case 🤣. The coaches failed him and should be hung tomorrow at noon in front of Carver how dare they. Some people crack me up. Also JRod I got rid of my twitter so I haven't seen my DMs if you tried getting ahold of me

stop being obtuse. I directly acknowledged this could be the case and stated my feelings on that in the opening post.

“i don’t care if the kid wants to wrestle and not redshirt, it’s the coaches decision to be an adult and make the best choice for him and the program.”

This doesn’t seem to warrant this level of being upset. He beat Jason Kraisser who’s ranked 27. No other notable wins to suggest that big things are coming but he’s looked decent. He was ranked 48th coming out of high school and lost to KV who barely broke 100. I think he’s promising but maybe he just wants to take his opportunity to get in the lineup in case this is it.

I figure he’s thinking this might be his best chance to see the lineup so why not go after it. He isn’t a blue chipper like Ferrari, he was barely inside the top 50 coming out of HS. Heck, he’s not even the best true freshman at his weight on the team.

With a kid in his position if he wants to go, you let him roll.

Completely agree.
