Denmark has mandatory military service. I used to work with a Dane. He said it was a joke, and I can't remember if it was 2 months or 6 months, but he was comparing experiences with my swedish coworker (who had to do swedish mandatory service). They both said it was a joke and ultimately they were relying on america to take care of anything serious.

Well you are somewhat historically challended as far as post war economics goes. The US and Australia were about the only two modern countries that had not been devastated by WW2. It took 20 to 30 years for Europe, Britain, Japan, and China to get their industries and populations back up and working. You cant understand that our so called US largesse wasnt also to help these countries re-build to make for better global markets for US goods? Our private enterprise system had no free handouts to these countries; our govt did but again it was to help boost us.
I say this and you dont hear it very much but the US was able to take advantage of this void to become the top industrial nation by far right after and for 30-40 years after WW2. We immensely gained dominance over the world in that time.
So dont go blabbing and slobbering around about how much we help those countries as we made out like bandits. The last 40 years our companies have sent their jobs overseas to maintain huge profits and they have sold out the US citizens in many ways by off-shoring their operations and monies and paying little in taxes.
Excellent retort to all the maga mouth breathers who dont seem to get enough oxygen to their brains. When people are too dumb to realize that a leader who lies all the time isnt lying to them then more's the pity probably for what we all will get.
The trump voters cant remember that Dumpster did nothing in his first 4 years except sign a total tax give away mostly to the top 5% and big business and this caused a huge amount of national debt for a 4 year term.
And now after 4 years of Biden steering us to excellent economic recovery from covid and and supply chain induced inflation, and the last 4 years of very good economic growth and jobs, with huge infrastructure works and jobs in the pipeline for at least another 8 years, the voters who dont know what a tariff is or what it will do, the voters who think throwing out 12 million people from the country who do a lot of the hard work in this country will save us but really it will cause chaos in our food and other industries, the dumb voters who think Trump is right and America is terrible, well let's see what they get and unfortunately what all of us get when Defacto Prez Musk starts making rules that only help himself.
