Odd they canceled out of the tournament. Coaches have left their team before a bowl game and an assistant has replaced them.
Maybe DeVries is lining up players and assistant to follow him to Iowa. 😃

My hopes from everything I’ve heard and seen are extremely high.
I'm sure there's been back-channel communication with McCollum to gauge interest, but if you wait for his NCAA tourney run to end, you still might lose him to Indiana or someone else. And by waiting, you might also miss your chance on DeVries. And then you have to move on to your second tier of candidates.
If you can hire DeVries now, you do it.
Personally, I'd take either of DD or BM. But maybe this is a case of striking while the irons hot?
I think Drake making the tourney and WVU not actually works against BM in this scenario. Iowa/Beth wants to move quickly and if you slow play DD, you risk him getting pi$$ed and pulling a Stoops.
If both had made the tourney, I think it'd have been more of a 50/50 between the 2, but with WVU out, I think it's probably 80/20, if not 90/10, in favor of DD.
Turning down both the NIT and CBC declares to the world that DeVries is leaving.
Problem with McCollum (like him a lot) is we’d have to wait till after Drakes tourney run to go after him. DeVries is available now.
They’ve been 1 and 1a for me so all in on Devries.
If we wait, could lose out on both.

Where is Devries going if not to Iowa? We hold the cards, not Devries.
I hope Beth doesn’t panic as quick as people on here. If McCollum is her man then she already has a deal and just waits to announce it. But I think Devries is her choice.
Not saying he couldn't be corrupt, but pretty sure when UNC is brought up he has to leave the room..
I think DD has been Beth’s choice and preference all along. If she really preferred BM she would know through back channels that waiting would pay off. We will see where BM ends up and how he compares to DD. But I think Beth has targeted DD for over a month if not longer..
The concern I have with DeVries, is his teams seem to wither at times. Twice Drake has blown late leads in the ncaa tournament (one of which was an epic choke job where his players flat-out panicked), and this year WVA faded, going 6-9 down the stretch.
You don’t see a McCollum team panic.
Could, but in today’s environment I think we have to shit or get off the pot. If we snag DeVries I count that as a W.
Like I said, like McCallum a lot but if he does take Drake to the second weekend that’s problematic for Iowa’s chances on multiple fronts.
Wait for him and maybe DeVries looks elsewhere or WV locks him back up
My guess is she’s had communication with both of their reps for the last several weeks or months and has plotted out choice A, B, C, D…

Supposedly there were two schools that had contacted Devries. I don't know who the other one is.
I would say if Devries chooses to leave WVU for Iowa, it is REALLY because he is an Iowa guy and he knows he will get a long leash and expectations are middling. I think it is good hire but I don't like idea of paying WVU $6 million when we can't even fund our NIL.
As far as holding all the cards, I would say Devries can go back to WVU and get a little bit more money if that is what motivates him.
If being closer to family and Iowa motivates him, then he will make it happen that he is in Iowa City. Ball is in his court, and Iowa
quite ready to hand him the keys.
I wouldn't count on a turnaround for next year like what Devries had at WVU. Does seem the got screwed out of NCAA tourney,
Thought I read somewhere the NCAA chair is UNC's AD and he gets a payday if UNC makes the tournament.
Yeah, I think she's an intelligent lady and plotting scenarios is part of the job. Now we very well might not get Devries or McCollom, but the choice we end up with will be better than sticking with Fran another year. He really is a different era coach.
Did WV turn down an offer or were just not selected?
I have seen nothing.
