Not to mention ‘recruit’ any current Hawks he wants to keep, and othersI'm sure there's been back-channel communication with McCollum to gauge interest, but if you wait for his NCAA tourney run to end, you still might lose him to Indiana or someone else. And by waiting, you might also miss your chance on DeVries. And then you have to move on to your second tier of candidates.
If you can hire DeVries now, you do it.
Yeah, I agree - not time to panic….Where is Devries going if not to Iowa? We hold the cards, not Devries.
I hope Beth doesn’t panic as quick as people on here. If McCollum is her man then she already has a deal and just waits to announce it. But I think Devries is her choice.
These 2 are both no nothing clowns.Leistikow and Dochterman talked about McCollum's team playing with one of the slowest paces in college basketball. Leistikow didn't seem too enthused about that coming to Iowa. We don't want Lickliter ball again.

is there a ncaa rule that prohibits a deal before season is over? or is it an assumption that the coach would prefer it that way?Problem with McCollum (like him a lot) is we’d have to wait till after Drakes tourney run to go after him. DeVries is available now.
They’ve been 1 and 1a for me so all in on Devries.
If we wait, could lose out on both.
I don’t think it’s a rule but it’s a pretty bad looking if you’re heading into the tournament and a good way to lose your team.is there a ncaa rule that prohibits a deal before season is over? or is it an assumption that the coach would prefer it that way?
Iowa could hire fart in a can and we would have instantly more excitement than Fran continuing. DD will be fine. The concern I have with DeVries, is his teams seem to wither at times. Twice Drake has blown late leads in the ncaa tournament (one of which was an epic choke job where his players flat-out panicked), and this year WVA faded, going 6-9 down the stretch.
You don’t see a McCollum team panic.
“No nothing”These 2 are both no nothing clowns.

Dude is going to give up his dream job and stay in a shit hole his wife doesn't like because he had to wait a few days? I don't think so. Beth isn't going to leave him hanging unless she know there is a high likelihood that McCollum takes the job. Again, glad the people on here aren't making these decisions.Indiana has the money and heritage to draw McCollum. You make DD feel like 2nd choice waiting for McCollum? Piss him off and he stays at WVU. Swing and miss on both?
A bird in the hand bro.........
I believe players know they will need to wait until the tourney is over before they will sign on to a new team. Doubtful and tourney team coaches are recruiting right now. But this is a good reason for BBall programs to have a GM on staff to talk to player agents during this exact time.is there a ncaa rule that prohibits a deal before season is over? or is it an assumption that the coach would prefer it that way?
an hour here and another there in secret perhaps while seated on the toilet to talk to agent and/or beth who's going to know as long as final annoucement happens post tourney exit?I don’t think it’s a rule but it’s a pretty bad looking if you’re heading into the tournament and a good way to lose your team.
It’d call into question the coach as well…
We'll never truly know, will we. I love KF, but to suggest that he was a better hire than Stoops is pure speculation.Seems as though the football hire turned out just fine
People didn't hate Lickliter because of the style he played. They hated him because he lost and was too lazy to leave town to recruit and he played his midget son. Winning is a style everyone appreciates. They showed a stat during the MVC tournament that Drake led the nation with 290(?) FGs in the last 4 seconds of the shot clock. The next closest was 215. It's like a mini heart attack every time they have the ball.
The buyout for DD is $4.66M, not $6M.Supposedly there were two schools that had contacted Devries. I don't know who the other one is.
I would say if Devries chooses to leave WVU for Iowa, it is REALLY because he is an Iowa guy and he knows he will get a long leash and expectations are middling. I think it is good hire but I don't like idea of paying WVU $6 million when we can't even fund our NIL.
As far as holding all the cards, I would say Devries can go back to WVU and get a little bit more money if that is what motivates him.
If being closer to family and Iowa motivates him, then he will make it happen that he is in Iowa City. Ball is in his court, and Iowa
quite ready to hand him the keys.
I wouldn't count on a turnaround for next year like what Devries had at WVU. Does seem the got screwed out of NCAA tourney,
If the two were willing to chase devries all the way to West Virginia, don’t see why they wouldn’t meet in the middle at Iowa.West Virginia has 3 commits for the Class of 2025.
I wonder if any would have interest in Iowa City
We're getting a new Pope too?!
I still don’t understand why DeVries would jump to West Virginia for only one year. If Iowa was his dream job, he had to know it would be open soon. That only makes him more expensive. If Iowa is his dream job he wouldn’t be talking to another school as rumoredProblem with McCollum (like him a lot) is we’d have to wait till after Drakes tourney run to go after him. DeVries is available now.
They’ve been 1 and 1a for me so all in on Devries.

Speaking of speculation, Stoops hasn't coached in 8 years, so one would have to speculate that BOTH he AND his imaginary replacement would have done better at Iowa than KF. Good luck with that one. We'll never truly know, will we. I love KF, but to suggest that he was a better hire than Stoops is pure speculation.
I like Chad alot, but he's not immune to selectively picking stats to push his narrative.....which is he likes DD better and feels he'd be a better hire. Anyone with a computer can google and see that BM's teams in the past have played at a much quicker pace and have scored alot more points. Why? Because he had more shooters and the team was able to play that way. He determined early on once he got to Drake that he'd need to play a much slower pace in order to win. Imagine that, a coach that takes stock of his team's abilities and then molds game plans and styles to fit that personnel rather than continually trying to force a square peg into a round hole!Leistikow and Dochterman talked about McCollum's team playing with one of the slowest paces in college basketball. Leistikow didn't seem too enthused about that coming to Iowa. We don't want Lickliter ball again.
Heck maybe Beth decided she wants him over McCollum and I hope so....sure he has won alot at the lower lvl's but just something feels off with him being the hire....i think it is DeVries who Beth wantsDude is going to give up his dream job and stay in a shit hole his wife doesn't like because he had to wait a few days? I don't think so. Beth isn't going to leave him hanging unless she know there is a high likelihood that McCollum takes the job. Again, glad the people on here aren't making these decisions.
She does, and it's not a very well kept secret.Heck maybe Beth decided she wants him over McCollum and I hope so....sure he has won alot at the lower lvl's but just something feels off with him being the hire....i think it is DeVries who Beth wants
That goes for you too. FAFODude is going to give up his dream job and stay in a shit hole his wife doesn't like because he had to wait a few days? I don't think so. Beth isn't going to leave him hanging unless she know there is a high likelihood that McCollum takes the job. Again, glad the people on here aren't making these decisions.
Maybe Tucker can get Pryce to reconsider?"DeVries´ son, Tucker, is open to the idea of returning home to Iowa to finish out his playing career there."
I don't help me understand?
I don’t know that we can “count on a turnaround like WVU” for next year BUT once we know what the roster looks like I wouldn’t rule it out either……we aren’t going to improve by 10 more wins if that’s what you’re saying, but with the right roster…..maybe 4 more wins, and that probably puts us in the tournament.Supposedly there were two schools that had contacted Devries. I don't know who the other one is.
