DeVries NOT a candidate for Iowa job. Ben McCollum the next Iowa HC?

Thought I read somewhere the NCAA chair is UNC's AD and he gets a payday if UNC makes the tournament.

Where is Devries going if not to Iowa? We hold the cards, not Devries.

I hope Beth doesn’t panic as quick as people on here. If McCollum is her man then she already has a deal and just waits to announce it. But I think Devries is her choice.
Devries could say F it if Iowa hesitated and takes whatever WV throws his way to keep him.

Lot of ifs in this situation but waiting around in todays environment seems like a good way to end up with option D whoever that is…

We’re gonna find out soon enough

This is a good point. In fact, I'm sure DD is under some pressure at WV to piss or get off the pot. If he's leaving, I would guess that WV would be eager to get rolling on their search to replace him.

Leistikow and Dochterman talked about McCollum's team playing with one of the slowest paces in college basketball. Leistikow didn't seem too enthused about that coming to Iowa. We don't want Lickliter ball again.

I understand that but it’s also been noted multiple times, he adjusts to his personnel. This year, his personnel was clearly outmatched athletes-wise so the solution is to slow down the game.

A couple of his D2 national championship teams averaged 80 ppg.

They showed a stat during the MVC tournament that Drake led the nation with 290(?) FGs in the last 4 seconds of the shot clock. The next closest was 215. It's like a mini heart attack every time they have the ball.

Playing Devil's Advocate here........Why do we want a coach that didn't make the tournament?
Don't throw darts at me I'm just having fun. DD would be a great get as well as BM.

FWIW, 4 star guard Kelvin Odih, a 2025 West Virginia commit, has ties to the Hawkeyes, having received an offer in 2023. He'd be a nice get for us if he could be flipped.

I think Drake making the tourney and WVU not actually works against BM in this scenario. Iowa/Beth wants to move quickly and if you slow play DD, you risk him getting pi$$ed and pulling a Stoops.

If both had made the tourney, I think it'd have been more of a 50/50 between the 2, but with WVU out, I think it's probably 80/20, if not 90/10, in favor of DD.
Seems as though the football hire turned out just fine

The plane from Morgantown to Aurora flew from ARR to Morgantown on March 11. Later, on the 11th, it flew from Morgantown to Kansas City, where the Big 12 Tournament was held (WV's first game was on March 12). On March 16, it flew from KC to Morgantown. It then flew back to Aurora yesterday and flew to Miami this morning. It is a very active private jet owned by the Chicago Jet Group.

The plane from CR to Aurora is a Cessna Skyhawk, a single-engine prop plane that seats 2 to 4 people. It is doubtful that Iowa flew its AD on what is basically acrop duster. A flight school in Sugar Grove, IL, owns it.

Stand down, people, regarding this news.

so, not making a run at McCollum? Or is he Indiana bound?
Sounds like this thing may have been set up for a while and then wvu getting screwed out of the tourney just worked out perfectly for Iowa.

Even if not the case it's tough to wait on McCollum knowing he will have better offers while DD also has a contract extension on his desk.

Can't risk missing on both.

The concern I have with DeVries, is his teams seem to wither at times. Twice Drake has blown late leads in the ncaa tournament (one of which was an epic choke job where his players flat-out panicked), and this year WVA faded, going 6-9 down the stretch.

You don’t see a McCollum team panic.
I agree. McCollum is probably the better coach but possibly not the better recruiter and there's no guarante we would get him with Indiana, Virginia and possibly Villanova involved.

The counter to Devil’s Advocate would be, they went 9-23, and 4-14 in conference last year. 19-13 and 10-10 with DeVries in one year. Pretty impressive turn around.

Minnesota, Indiana, and there will be other vacancies. But yeah, Iowa tops the list for sure.
