Seems like a lot of open speculation.

Talked to a west Virginia fan here in Hawaii yesterday he thought we'd probably get him but there going to shoot a big number extension so if we want him we will have to pay to get him

Seems like a rumor not much more. We'll see. I expect Fran will be back. I think an infusion of bigs will help next year. Again, we'll see. Got to get some luck in the portal imho.

Help what may I ask. Again Fran has been here for 15 years. We know who he is. A few more years even with bigs don't change his in game coaching and lack of defensive game plans. He's done!

Fran couldn’t get out of the first weekend of the tournament with a NPOTY, a lottery pick, and 2 NBA draft picks.

It’s time.

another name--Beard from Miss. has baggage so I assume Iowa is too proud to try and get him.

Ind. job top 2 right now are Beard and Pearl--I read where Beard would jump on it if offered--they are not sure about Pearl....going to be interesting off season for sure and I hope we are a part of it...

Thanks for this article! Nice to get outside perspectives.

How about we take a step back and look at DeVries' current season with the Mountaineers. In what was obviously a step up in competition, he is currently 15-9 and in ninth place in the Big 12. After so many complaints about Iowa's current record and position, those are hardly numbers to hang our hats on if we want to make a splash with a new coach.

Fair point, but they are also playing without their two best players and have had some big wins.

I’m not saying Devries is or isn’t the answer, but isn’t this his first year at WVU?

Fran is in year 15.

C’mon, man.

I’m still bitter on the lack of results during Garza/Wieskamp/Murrays years.

Spread out 5 more tournament wins during those years & the temperature for his seat is a lot lower.
What about the Marble, Jok, Uthoff, White years? They all were 1st team all big ten at one point and all played together. Woodbury did that team no favors but it was Fran that thought Woody was better than Gabe.

Sure, stick with Fran. Year 16 is the one. Fans will flock back to Carver. All will be soft serve and sunshine.

If we have a real AD, this will be the end of the line for Fran. If we have a Gary Barta clone, Fran will get an extension and Iowa men's basketball will officially become a secondary sport, kinda like women's rowing.

^^^There's apathy of the fan base should dictate this decision.

$$$ can't be a problem!

Hey 4 tournament wins in 15 years and we are going to miss the tournament 2 years straight, but be patient! He’s almost got this program where he wants it!

Side note, I think it would be a big mistake to break the bank for Devries. I’m not sure he’s had enough success to warrant ridiculous money.

If Devries has $12M left on his contract, Iowa's buyout would be about $4.5M. He seems like a strong candidate, but there must be at least a few other strong candidates. Maybe the don't have strong Iowa ties, but how important is that really? It is not like the state of Iowa is a hotbed of top basketball recruits. I am not familiar enough to make other suggestions, just that they need to value both ends of the court, have ties that will allow successful recruiting, and continue Fran's legacy of running a program with integrity.

We should be able to out bid WV even with Fran’s buyout. Plus factor in he may be ready to come home and Iowa would just have to match their offer.

Guard play does it in the NCAAs
Stuckey's?! How old are you my man? We would take summer vacations (I was born and raised in Cedar Rapids) and to pass some long stretches of boredom we (older sister, little brother) would get a pad of paper and a pencil and start counting the many many Stuckey's we passed along the way. Kind of a fun game. We got really excited when we actually went in one to get something to eat and drink. We did the same with semi's. Peterbilt v. Mack. Those were the days. We had a behemoth of a station wagon and we would put a mattress in the back. We even had air conditioning! Those were the days. Everything seemed a bit easier in life. Good memories. Good memories.

I would guess there will not be a huge increase in fans no matter who they hire. They will not come back until they start to win on a regular basis,

It's gonna go up, they know there's interest.

his top two scorers are out injured and the Big 12 is much better than the Big 10 in BBall this year.
