This.Wonder how you’d feel if a private Muslim school was receiving voucher money.
I'm also really hoping a satanic school opens up so we can see all the tiny Republican brains explode.
This.Wonder how you’d feel if a private Muslim school was receiving voucher money.
How does the voucher program help the public schools that are required to educate these students that require additional staff, time and resources? Why would the private school want to accept a student who will undoubtedly disrupt the learning process for other students. Some of these special needs kids scream and moan the whole school day. They are incapable of keeping up with the classroom learning environment and in most cases just sent to school so the parents can have a break.
Parents send their kids to private school to get away from these distractions, people like you want to water down the private school environment so that it is as bad as the public schools.
It doesn't. This is a grift to fund religious schools and subsidize families who are already sending their kids to private schools. There are about 40,000 students in private school compared to 400,000 public school students in Iowa. The vast, vast majority of the $200M+ is going to the priviledged minority and the vast majority are made to do with even less than before. How does the voucher program help the public schools that are required to educate these students that require additional staff, time and resources?
Why not provide resources to public schools that will improve public schools instead of just vilifying public schools and providing funds to private schools? Kim has done absolutely nothing to help the issues that you described. If anything, she has added more reporting requirements that public schools must now find time for.
Well no shit. Or blacks and Mexicans. Unless they play football or soccer for said Catholic school.Dirty little secret: part of the appeal of private schools is that your kids don't have to sit next to or socialize with those pesky poor kids.
What I find funny is when I was growing up Dowling was certainly not for the rich kids. Catholic schools have certainly changed over the last 25 years. I’m amazed even in the nice Johnson County suburbs the people who aren’t even Catholic who send their kids to Catholic schools when they’ve got the best public schools in the state. Paying 12-15K a year (minimum) to get just an ok education, especially if you have a gifted kid for which they aren’t really set up for. But they’re good in sports! It doesn't. And the church sponsored schools benefit the most - they can raise tuition dramatically and still keep the same families they have chosen to accept. They get to do this with no oversight of where the money goes or standards on the effectiveness of their education.
The people supporting this are those who are part of the minority that benefits from this and the rubes who can't bother to look beyond a misleading slogan like "school choice".
We have had multiple families bring their kids BACK to us from private to finish elementary school and then they will move them back to private later for athletics. What I find funny is when I was growing up Dowling was certainly not for the rich kids. Private schools do not have special ed teachers, so are you saying a school should be forced to accept students they have no capacity to teach? Nobody benefits in that world.Lol. I love how you're completely contradicting yourself within a matter of posts.
"School choice is the law of the land!"
...."except if you're special ed or disabled, of course!"
Again, I know you're intentionally being a heel on this site, but you can let the schtick go once in a while. It's not funny when you're making fun of kids.
Plenty of good reasons and zero bad reasons. They student is being educated what does the tuition have to do with it?Now that the private schools have raised their tuition (thanks to the vouchers), are there ANY good reasons why the voucher plan is good for Iowans?
You guys don't even know what tuition actually costs. And, we just spitting out lies. What I find funny is when I was growing up Dowling was certainly not for the rich kids. 1) they could easily afford to hire some if they wanted to.Private schools do not have special ed teachers, so are you saying a school should be forced to accept students they have no capacity to teach? Nobody benefits in that world.
?1) they could easily afford to hire some if they wanted to.
2) depending on the school, most of them could handle at least some special ed students if they chose to.
But they don’t because there’s no requirement and no oversight.
Schools are not businesses.?
That would have been a massive financial loss for a private business that was not receiving any money to assist with educating those children until two years ago. They didn't spend the money, because there was no funding, and no demand.
Private ones were/are, until things changed two years ago.Schools are not businesses.
The public schools did it to themselves, their solution has always been to pour more money into problem which has never worked. How does the voucher program help the public schools that are required to educate these students that require additional staff, time and resources?

Thanks for agreeing that the voucher system is a scam. The public schools did it to themselves, their solution has always been to pour more money into problem which has never worked.
Private schools have always done more with less, for every dollar spent at a public school the private school has spent a nickel and done a better job.
Public school Districts in Iowa are top heavy and always have been. They pass students for merely showing up and never opening a book or turning in a homework assignment. They simply push a kid to the next grade level and at the 12th grade level they hand them a diploma and push them out the door and slap each other on the back congratulating each other for improving the graduation rate.
It's a total F---ing scam.
How does the voucher system help educate students?Plenty of good reasons and zero bad reasons. They student is being educated what does the tuition have to do with it?
If it was “all about the kids” perhaps. This is anything BUT abut the kids. Parents living vicariously thru their kids, perhaps. Parents using their kids as crutches, more probable.Sooner or later you are going to have to face the fact that School Choice is soon to be the Law of the Land and both parents and students will benefit from it.
After all it's about the kids, isn't it? Screw the NEA, that's what I say.
You do know I was referring to the public-school systems push em out the door philosophy, that's the scam dumbshitThanks for agreeing that the voucher system is a scam.
LOL you poor uneducated peonIf it was “all about the kids” perhaps. This is anything BUT abut the kids. Parents living vicariously thru their kids, perhaps. Parents using their kids as crutches, more probable.
That's a pretty amazing stat. Link? The public schools did it to themselves, their solution has always been to pour more money into problem which has never worked.

It's reality. Public Schools in Iowa are a money pit. You have Administrators falling over each other, you have teachers and teacher aids and associates and then they have helpers all sucking off the publics (taxpayers) tit. That's a pretty amazing stat. Link?
If that were true (I don't think it is) we should privatize all schools in Iowa!
You are always good for some insults and "deal with its" in a thread like this, but yet again nothing of substance.?
That would have been a massive financial loss for a private business that was not receiving any money to assist with educating those children until two years ago. They didn't spend the money, because there was no funding, and no demand. That may change in the future with this new law, it will take time for the funding and resources to catch up. The public schools have a huge head start in this area thanks to all the tax money they've received through the decades.
So, you don't have any support for your statement that educating a student at a public school costs 20 times what it does at a private school? It's reality. Public Schools in Iowa are a money pit. You have Administrators falling over each other, you have teachers and teacher aids and associates and then they have helpers all sucking off the publics (taxpayers) tit.
The private schools have been doing this on their own and producing a much better product, and now you begrudge parents who want the best for their child's education.
Just how petty are you?
No. YOU are spitting out lies. You've been wrong from the start but here you are pretending you know what you're talking about. I TOLD YOU.You guys don't even know what tuition actually costs. And, we just spitting out lies.
Wow, you've all got some personal issues to work through on this. This clearly goes much deeper than just a political/educational issue.
Many of you have some childhood trauma to work through apparently.
So what does tuition actually cost? What is included transportation? breakfast? lunch? You guys don't even know what tuition actually costs. And, we just spitting out lies.

I've actually been right all along.No. YOU are spitting out lies. You've been wrong from the start but here you are pretending you know what you're talking about. I TOLD YOU.
It’s cute that you think all private schools are high minded and would never push kids out the door. You do know I was referring to the public-school systems push em out the door philosophy, that's the scam dumbshit
I think you have the definition of right and wrong mixed up in that case.I've actually been right all along.
Depends on if you belong to the church, or if you volunteer, or if you do nothing. 3 tiers of tuition. And, it costs different based upon the grade. But, in general, if you belong to the church or volunteer, it will range from 3k to 6k/year. So, soon to be no cost for most, with the education voucher, until the school is full.So what does tuition actually cost? What is included transportation? breakfast? lunch?
Save for the fact that we know from the original article that they’re upping their tuition rates…Depends on if you belong to the church, or if you volunteer, or if you do nothing. 3 tiers of tuition. Wrong school. Nice try. Were you just wrong there, or intentionally lying?Save for the fact that we know from the original article that they’re upping their tuition rates…
What about the other 2 tiers? Does the school provide transportation, free or reduced meals?Depends on if you belong to the church, or if you volunteer, or if you do nothing. 3 tiers of tuition. It goes up from there. The school provides transportation. They have their own buses. Iowa City dropped them from their bus program years ago, which actually turned out to be great. Iowa City's buses were filled with problems. The school provides free and reduced lunch plans where needed. Those numbers should rise with the voucher program. Which should be great with the IHSAA's recent free and reduced lunch BEDs reduction plan. What about the other 2 tiers? Does the school provide transportation, free or reduced meals?
I think about double? Maybe a little more? How far up?
So you really don't know how much tuition is either for those that aren't church members.I think about double? Maybe a little more?
Most would just pretend to go to church or volunteer a little instead. Very few are just paying the full rate I would think.
Mostly just the foreign students.
https://regina.org/tuitionSo you really don't know how much tuition is either for those that aren't church members.
Thanks, when was the last time tuition was raised at Regina?
Not entirely sure. But, the cost of education goes up every single year for public education, so I'd have every reason to expect private schools would have similar needs. Thanks, when was the last time tuition was raised at Regina?
