Dubuque private school raises tuition by 58% after voucher expansion

Not entirely sure. But, the cost of education goes up every single year for public education, so I'd have every reason to expect private schools would have similar needs.
Per pupil funding in Iowa has increased very slowing in the last 20 years usually around 2%.

Check out some of the salary and benefit pacakages for past and current public school superintendents in Iowa. Some exceeding $300,000 annually and that doesn't include some really nice benefits.

Depends on if you belong to the church, or if you volunteer, or if you do nothing. 3 tiers of tuition. And, it costs different based upon the grade. But, in general, if you belong to the church or volunteer, it will range from 3k to 6k/year. So, soon to be no cost for most, with the education voucher, until the school is full.
Wrong.

What do you consider a suitable salary for a district's superintendent?

If you’re looking for an argument that administrators are probably overpaid, not many will agree with you.

To be fair tho - you do have to offer packages that are competitive with other states or you’ll regularly lose the best people to others.

I could agree that they’re probably overpaid, but I’m also guessing that’s at least partly due to being what the going market rates are for superintendents.
I don't think making $300,000 to oversee the state's largest public school district(s) is someone who is overpaid. We disagree on that, and there's nothing wrong with that. However, I've seen Northern and others flippantly mention superintendent pay through the years, and when pressed to tell us just how much they believe a person responsible for an entire (in this case urban) school district should be paid, it's crickets.

Not the pay so much as the sheer number of administrators some districts seem to have that on occasion seem redundant.

That is a fair position/claim. But Northern is talking about superintendent alone. I want to know what he and others believe such a position should pay? $100,000 a year? Should the pay for superintendents in Iowa have a cap on it?

To your point about administrative bloat — there are quite a few superintendents being shared between districts now. I know of at least five off the top of my head who are using such a system to save money.

Yeah, it depends on the district for sure, and places in Iowa - or any other state in rural districts has that problem for sure.

If someone is going to say that current superintendent pay is ridiculous, compare it to other states.

The Iowa governor's salary is $130,000. That is a good frame of reference.

And yes, state lawmakers should create a pay cap.

You guys don't even know what tuition actually costs. And, we just spitting out lies.

Wow, you've all got some personal issues to work through on this. This clearly goes much deeper than just a political/educational issue.
Many of you have some childhood trauma to work through apparently.
I have a tax dollar usage issue. I have a friend with kids at Regina. She went to Regina herself and her tuition was paid by her parents, grandparents, and the parish. She's supportive of the mission of Regina, but she also hates the voucher program. She and her husband make well over $200,000, but she told me of course they will take the free money when they are eligible. I asked her to tell me how much her tuition jumps once she gets the free money.

One good thing in this thread is that it's nice to see blindly supportive Republicans like Northern angered that his tax money and his kids are getting the shaft in order to give a kid that drives an Audi to school a leg up.
Blindly supporting the GOP gave Northern this. He owns this.

Unlike many of you, I can break from some of the decisions of my party.

Do you? Of course you do.

So do we.

So it's the same for every private school?

You are a dullard.

It goes up from there. The school provides transportation. They have their own buses. Iowa City dropped them from their bus program years ago, which actually turned out to be great. Iowa City's buses were filled with problems. The school provides free and reduced lunch plans where needed. Those numbers should rise with the voucher program. Which should be great with the IHSAA's recent free and reduced lunch BEDs reduction plan.
It's hilarious watching you flail trying to defend this.

What are the salary and benefits for the private school administrators?

Oh, that's right. They don't have to report.

Now that the private schools have raised their tuition (thanks to the vouchers), are there ANY good reasons why the voucher plan is good for Iowans?
LOL - It was never about the amount of money a school charges it was always about the quality of education. Iowa Public Schools suck, the environment sucks, the curriculum sucks, the administration sucks and the teachers suck.

Anymore questions?

It's a total scam what these Administrators and staff get away with salary wise in the Iowa Public School System.
