Fran’s replacement

I
They have both had moments where a person would believe they have turned a corner but then they go back to bad habits. Brock needs to have a purpose when he attacks the lane. Too many times he drives and has nowhere to go with the ball, so he either has turnover or throws up a shot that has almost no chance to go in. Over penetrating is a killer. In order for Freeman to be the player he has the potential to be, he has to be stronger with the basketball and be on balance. Too many times he turns the ball over in the paint or trys to do things he is not able to do at this point.
100% agree with both critiques

Until he's a threat to finish, he will rarely draw a defender and thus those drives don't produce. His jumper is not good. He's quick bit too small and thin to be a defensive strength. I love his heart and hustle, but he's an 8 minute backup on a quality P5 team.

Other than the buyout, what is the point of keeping Fran at this point. He has been the coach for 15 years and not much sign that things will be any different going forward. The conference road games show that something is off.
Very poorly constructed roster that doesn't compliment each other

I love McDermott from Creighton. Class act, funny and personable, but Iowa would be a step down for someone so successful at a school he loves. An Iowa native from little Cascade. Yeah, sure, I'd take DeVries in a microsecond if we could get him. Wouldn't complain about Gatens as a temp. Great guy, but can he deal with the NIL and more?

Ask any up and coming coach if they'd rather take the NW job or Iowa job. Do you want the lack of interest and academic hurdles at Northwestern? Or do you have to have a strong fanbase that is passionate about your team?

He shoots 38% from 3 and 44% overall. That is not that bad. You would think by now he would realize he is not going to finish at the rim. I would agree his best role would be to come in off the bench for Thelwell.

McDermott wouldn't touch Iowa with a 10 ft pole. What would be the upside for him? He's playing in a tough basketball conference with well thought out constructed teams.
