I fear the year is going to play out exactly as most predicted last year, knowing that Luca and Weesie would be gone. Those guys took the pressure off JBo and Connor, making them threats that they no longer are. Joe T and Patrick can be fun to watch but they're as wild as they were last year. Sandefort may be a star down the road but he's in over his head this year. We love the Murray's but when they're double covered, you can't expect too much. Perkins is better than I expected but apparently not good enough to start.
Last year I would have said, and maybe did, that 12 wins would be their ceiling in my opinion. I stand by that.

Did Luka buy Fran two more years or did Fran buy himself two more years by recruiting Luka?
Lol. No one could have predicted Luka would develop into the NPOTY. And to me, this should do the very opposite in terms of latitude for Fran. He had the NPOTY and a second round draft pick with a future first rounder buried on the bench behind his mediocre son and still couldn’t do shit in March.

And some fans think he’s going to sustain that level of success with the players he has now and future recruits? No disrespect to Bowen or Dix, but el oh el.

Fran got lucky. He is an incompetent D1 coach who underachieved when he had talent due to a lifelong Hawk fan, a buddy’s nephew, and getting lucky on a once in a lifetime player who worked his ass to get there . All of that and he didn’t do much.

And nobody knew that White would become the second highest scorer in Iowa history. And nobody knew that Uthoff would be an all American. And nobody knew that Jok or Marble would be first team all big ten. Give me a break. Fran is fine in terms of talent evaluation

His biggest problem has been an inability to get quality athletic guards into our program, and it reared its head last year. More minutes for Keegan wouldn’t have changed the outcome of the Oregon game given our backcourt wasn’t athletic enough to get open shots. Our best most athletic guards were freshman. Now they are sophomores. I’m not expecting that you’ll be patient, but it’s what’s needed. I think there’s a good chance that Perkins evolved into one of the better scoring guards in the Big Ten when it’s all said and done. Ulis will be good as well. I think there’s a 50/50 chance that Keegan and Kris come back next year depending on how the remainder of the year plays out. That will be a good team

Its gonna be a long year UNO with these douches. Best to ignore them. They’ll drag you down to their miserable lives. It’s been four years since they’ve had the pleasure and it’s Christmas come early to them.

A logical post without slamming coaches and players? I didn’t know that was possible but thank you for posting something that isn’t necessarily optimistic but very true and I agree! Not that my agreement matters.

I’ve never said Fran is bad at evaluating talent. Not even close. He’s not good at getting his top targets to commit, but he definitely identifies talent.

To date, Fran has not landed a difference maker at points guard. We are in agreement about lack of athleticism.

Probably a good call
Fran appears to be a cool guy in interviews (in which he hasn't just blown a game). He seems thoughtful.

It's too bad he has been really bad at managing a game. Well, "managing" isn't the right word. What do they call a manager in basketball? Oh, yeah, a Coach! He's also really not good at coaching a game.

Iowa’s current team doesn’t lack athleticism (aside from a couple guys) . They lack experience, and they specifically lack experience in hostile environments with COVID last year. Ulis is only a sophomore and will be a good PG in the Big Ten. Toussaint is capable of the same, but he requires guys around him who can shoot the ball otherwise he is ineffective

First loss to ISU in how many years and the answer is Fran must go? Most thought this would be a down year for us. It may turn out that way but there are a lot of games to play. Turns out the basketball fans are a lot like the football fans.
Most isu fans knew it would a down year for them but then they hired a coach who can recruit and realizes what a huge opportunity the portal is and boom... They are a good team who is undefeated, ranked, and just bitch slapped Fran on espn2

Its not just going and getting players from the portal its how TJ has his team playing, this kind of EFFORT reminds me of Eustachy's conference championship teams or some of Lute Olsons Iowa teams, because they don't have that type of talent.

I have never felt like Fran has ever got that kind of an effort out of a team night in and night out. Luka yes, the whole team? No.

The only word you need to see out of that good post is the one he/she put in caps.

Once a coach realizes he can recruit to Iowa like it's in the Big Ten and not a mid-major program we'll have the success we all want. Until then, we get diamonds in the rough with Fran.

I honestly don't have a problem with the players we have on the team if they would play hard. If we go deep into the bench, we should run frequent subs as guys get gassed after busting their asses for a few minutes. I harken back to Arkansas' "40 minutes of hell" as an example.

Effort should never be in question.

I’m sure a member of the Sunshine Club will jump in with the “Remember what happened when we ran Tom Davis out of town” nonsense.
We replaced him with a guy who went .589 in 8 years, with 3 NCAAs and 2 BTT championships, and everyone hated him
14 years later we have a guy who is .590 in 12 years, with 5 NCAAs and 0 BTT championships. Less hateable but almost identical statistics, minus the BTTs
It's not like Fran is completely unreplaceable
