Uthoff is NOT a point forward. His handles are weak at best. Let's not make the kid out to be someone he's not. He's a nice player, but let's leave it at that until he proves otherwise.

Just another Hawkeye that wouldn't be able to break into your beloved Clown lineup, right?

Uthoff handles very well for 6 9. He handles fine for a tall 3. You guys seem to think Uthoff should be 240 and handle like Gessell or better. Let the kid be who he is. He is a really tough kid to play defense against. Enjoy him as this is his last year.

Clearly debatable.

Debate it then. Give me a list of all the 6'9 and above guys in college and then which ones you think have better ball handling than JU. Im sure theres a few but clearly not many.

Although it might not work since you think White had a better handle and that is just ridiculous. White was much faster from A to B with the ball but thats not a test of ballhandling. Uthoff can actually cross people up and get the defender going the other direction.

Dude, you think he's wrong? LOL. ok. As much as I love Whitey I'd take Uthoff over him every day of the week, and so would any NBA GM.

That's probably why Whitey was drafted last week and Uthoff wasn't. Cmon. Uthoff is a THIRD TEAM ALL BIG kid at this point. Nothing more. Nothing less. IF he progresses this year, makes first team all BIG, leads the Hawkeyes to a win or two in the Dance, THEN MAYBE you can continue to make stupid statements like your previous post. Until then? Facts r facts.

Every year kids are projected as to what they're going to do the next year in college. Not doing so puts a fan behind. I guess we're seeing you in the rear view mirror.

I don't think we'll see much of Uthoff's game expanding to a role as a primary ball handler. He dribbles too high and is sloppy with the dribble. His passing skills are not impressive. For example, Woodbury is a much much better "point" of the offense. Uthoff has other skills and the potential to be a big scorer but I don't think Larry Bird passing when I see him with the ball.

I agree, with no insult intended to Uthoff. Not every 6'9" player is going to be a dribble drive machine. But I would underscore that Jared's other skills set him apart from most Big Ten forwards. ONLY making third team all Big Ten as a Junior? That's not far from reaching some great results with just a little more development.

What I expect, considering Woody is working on his shot out to ten-twelve feet, and he has expressed that he is aware he needs to watch the fouls with Olaseni gone. Is that we could be borrowing a neat little offensive trick (utilize it more like they did) of Wisconsin's, where Woody take the pass around the Free Throw line, pivots and uses the triple threat (shoot, drive or dish) with cutters like Uthoff, Uhl, Wagner, Jones...etc., beating their defender to the open spot under the basket.

We used it a little last year, but I believe it will be a much bigger part of the game for us in 2015/16. Reason being our outside shooters can force defenders out further.

Dude, that's because White was a sr and Fran, rightfully, defers to them. Assuming no injuries etch Uthoff will have better stats than White had last year and will be a higher draft pick.

Cmon. It's a LONG way from 3rd team to being a 1st team type player. Dear God, take the black and gold sunglasses off for once and be realistic.

He averaged 12.6 as the second option. This year he is clearly option number one.

You can't see him scoring another seven ppg this season? Really? Yes, he needs more development, don't we all?, but with his current game he's capable of 19--20ppg if he's the man.

I wanted him to shoot more last year and this season that will happen.

So third team All Big Ten players don't often end up on the first team the next season? Not like White. o_O And you HAVE to be All Big Ten First Team or don't expect to be drafted...(ERP!!! There's Dekker on the Second Team, Coaches and Media polls, after being third team the year before. Oh, and look at all that competition to rise from third to First!!! There are exactly THREE First or Second Team All big Ten players returning from 2014/15.

I hate to tell u this, but he was the first option last year. It's just white was a much better all around player which resulted in overall better stats, etc. Rarely were plays run for white, rather they were run for uthoff.

Yeah gosh b'golly those back door alley oops were all by accident. Except for the rare ones. When are you going to start being a Hawkeye fan?

We will revisit this conversation next March dude.

All I know is when a big shot needed to Ba taken uthoff took it. Hit a game winner vs minnesota. Hit a tough shot to take iowa to ot vs northwestern. Uthoff was really good last ear and hopefully can be great this year he has talent. Later on in the year he scored a lot and shut down opponents bet perimeter scorer (malcolm hill, yogi, etc)
Not many guys can dunk on the huge gonzaga center the way he did.

You're starting to argue against yourself now. There is a reason we just didn't give White the ball and tell him to create. That's not White's game, he knows that and was smart enough to stay within himself. The coaching staff still was able to get White involved they just had to be more creative because of his limitations in the half court.

Those limitations are what will prevent him from ever playing in the league if they're not fixed.

I would disagree. How many first and 2nd teamers are back next year? As pointed out, when Utoff becomes the primary focus of our offense, his numbers are going to increase substantially. I would expect at the least he will be 2nd team next year and I think chances are good that he will be first team.

U seem to forget that once he's the "primary focus" as u call it, that translates into "primary focus" of the defense also. Before we crown him first team, for sure nba draft pick, blah blah blah...let's see if he handle the pressure. The results were mixed, at best, last year.

Lmao. Good sh!t, bro.

Are you going to be upset when JU lives up to the expectations?

Why would I be upset? If he lives up to all the hype? Awesome. My point is let's wait and see.

It seems like your point has been to bash Uthoff at every available opportunity. Why is it hard to believe that the 2nd leading scorer on the team last year and 3rd team all-conference, coming into his senior year, won't continue to improve and be a leader on this team?

You have said he isn't aggressive enough or can tend to disappear at times, sounds like another great Hawkeye that just graduated and you seem particularly fond of.

Considering that's exactly what his boy did going from 2013-14 into 2014-15 did, I would think he'd believe it. But consider the source.

It'll be interesting to see how Uthoff plays as the clear #1 guy on offense. As others have mentioned, Aaron White's presence took the pressure off the rest of the guys on the court, so next year other teams will focus on him.
