Great TV shows that never got the credit they deserved or were canceled too soon.

Let me start with a show I really enjoyed which was smart and funny but was canceled too soon.

I never understood the appeal of that show. I like most things sci-fi but I veered off that halfway through and never bothered finishing. Like most Joss Whedon content it just seemed uninteresting if you were old enough to have a drivers license. I did enjoy watching Dollhouse by Whedon however.

But my stock standard answer to the original question is always Jericho. Sure it got a revivial, but the momentum was lost and the storyline accelerated too quickly.

Not sure I agree. If you watch the first season of M*A*S*H front to back, it's incredible. Random episodes from later seasons don't seem to live up to season 1.

The American version of The Office had a similar trajectory. First two seasons brilliant, third pretty good, every season after was a shameless cash grab in comparison.

Jericho. Such great possibilities. Sigh.

I loved John From Cincinnati on HBO, which only got 1 season.
Jericho was sooo good. Then cancelled too soon. Then the reboot lost steam. After you figured out what was happening it lost a lot. I think that’s why Lost was structured the way it was.

HBO: Deadwood, Carnival

CBS: John Doe

I"m currently binging Star Trek: The Next Generation as I"ma trying to see the entire universe in chronological order; with only Season 7 left to view, I'm already disappointed there wasn't more of it.

I'm being dumb with my first cup of coffee. M.A.S.H went on far too long and had plenty of accolades for the actual product itself.

You are 100% accurate. Henry and trapper mash good, BJ and Potter hit and miss.

I wouldn’t say great but two shows I liked that didn’t last more than 1-2 seasons:
- The Comedians
- Great News

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Incredible cast but probably super expensive.

Another Aaron Sorkin gem.

I’ll put in for “Person of Interest” from CBS. It’s a real shame that CBS never really played it up for what it really was - an ahead-of-its-time commentary on surveillance culture and the rise of AI. They really only ever sold it as a quirky cop serial where they solve the crisis of the week, but there was a much larger story arc that became very clear by the end of Season 2 into Season 3 (it was there from the beginning, but more easily hidden) and then the last couple seasons were absolutely wrapped around controlling government and dueling AIs. The show would play really well on a streaming service now. A Jonathan Nolan gem.

HBO's series Luck ended after the first season because of f'ing Peta. This is with David Milch in his prime also with Michael Mann. Milch's Deadwood also was canceled too soon. I never saw John from Cincinnati.

I loved the first season of this series. A great rewatch like Deadwood. Hoffman was a badass in it.
